Kevin doesn't PLAY his cello ... He invites it to sing with the group, allowing it to share it's voice. I'm a Home Frie and Voice Player, but being a Pentaholic is what began my acapella journey and THIS was a perfect example why. And they ALL led me to your channel, the highest praise I can give them. Wonderful reaction and analysis...

Same here! I was a Pentaholic first, but VP & HF came along soon after. But I'm still a Pentaholic first. They are all amazingly talented, & have totally different styles, so they can't even be compared. Ptx is still on top for me though. My ultimate wish come true would be a concert featuring all 3 groups performing together!!!

Have you heard/seen their rendition of "Dancing On My Own"? It's the first of two songs they recorded after Avi left and before Matt arrived (I'm not sure what the other was). It was their farewell to Avi. Kevin tuned Beyoncé (his acoustic cello, the one he's playing in "Shallow") low so she could "sing" Avi's part in the arrangement, while Kevin was still handling percussion, and looking like he was about to burst into tears the entire time. Heart wrenching.
@Badger7772211 ай бұрын
The other song is Away In a Manger, set in a forest where everyone does a variety of body percussion. Technically, Avi hadn't left the group when Dancing On My Own was released; it came out in summer of 2017, and Avi was with them until they finished the summer tour in fall 2017. But I agree that the cello really seemed to be filling in for Avi's missing bass line.

When I saw that this was going to be the next entry on your Pentatonix "week", I was excited to hear what you would be saying about it. This is a video that seems to slip past a lot of reactors, and I'm so glad that your Patrons voted it in for you! Kirstin has so much "cry" in her voice when she's belting out the chorus - she's really portraying the emotional impact of the song. Matt and Beyoncé switching back and forth on who has the lower tone. Mitch's high, soaring voice on the bridge. Matt doing a fantastic job at imitating the cello right after Mitch's bridge, where Kevin stops playing but the "cello" can still be heard. So many things to like about this arrangement and performance! One nice visual detail in the video: it's shot in black-and-white, but there are splashes of gold color with some jewelry and fixtures in the room. That's a nod to the posters for the movie, which were also black-and-white except for the gold lettering in the title, A Star Is Born.

I also love the little "Bad Romance" quote that Kirstie does towards the end, which I'm sure was done to honor Lady Gaga.

Two things: 1. "Aha!" is a very strange song. It carries a feeling of dread, with no explanation. In the official video for it they provide an explanation, so it's best to watch the official video first, so the song makes sense. 2. "Aha live Singapore" won't find the video you're referring to. Try "PTX Aha Singapore the Star Vista."

This is from 2019. In February through May, 2018, Kirstin performed in the Broadway production of the Kinky Boots musical and I think she got some vocal coaching to prepare her for doing seven shows a week. It seems to me there was a change in her vocal quality and power before and after.

I haven't listened to this one in ages! It's excellent, thanks for reacting. I love the aesthetic of this vidoe too, it goes well with the music. For the next Pentatonix week I would love you to analyze Dancing on my Own (I would suggest Away in a Manger paired with it, because those are the two vidoes they did after Avi left but before Matt joined, but I don't know if you do holiday music outside Nov/Dec). A really fun one from the early days is Starships. Oh, and you could mix a Superfruit one in there!! I highly highly recommend their Lady Gaga medley or the Empire Medley, Scott and Mitch sound great in those. They are not acapella but they are one-takes in the studio with minimal production.
@martin618111 ай бұрын
Pentatonix never fails you, they're always so on point. If you want to explore an artist that I see you haven't yet reacted to then you should look up a man named Tommy Johansson. Imo he has one of the current best rock voices in the world, he's a genius guitarrist and keyboardplayer, he also does new renditions of songs every week as a hobby when he's not with his own bands. If you choose to react to him I suggest you start with his rendition of "You raise me up", there you can really experience his range and I have yet to see a reactor who hasn't been captivated by him.
