In the song "Headlights," he explains a little bit about his relationship with his mom, and also apologizes to his mother for this song in particular and says that he doesn't longer performes it in his concerts and even cringes when it's played on radio... So, if you want to hear a couple of lovely songs about his relationships with his mom and Kim, I recommend you "Headlights" "going through changes" and "Bad Husband " P.S. He had so many songs fighting his mom and his mom paid other artists to try to get back at em for all the hate he put against her. And his song headlights is his apology for stooping to her level and being a bad role model to other kids in his situation

We are here for you to share if you want to. This music is for that almost solely. So many people living this and it is getting worse the more we destroy families, both parents working. Kids having no one or guidance. Myself included. This song feels like my life. My mom wasnt near as bad. But she drank alot. And we all know what kind of life that brings. 2024 and theres been 45,000 suicides. 75% are men. Check on your friends yall. This world keeps on kicking em when their down. We need to change direction in this world. PS - his mom tried to sue him for 10 million for this song. For context.

For context: when he said "the smartest thing I did was taking the bullets out of that gun" he was referring to an incident where he spotted Kim (his wife) outside of a club making out with another man (who was the bouncer of the club). So Eminem flipped and went to confront them with a gun but took the clip out before leaving the car. He ended up pistol whipping the bouncer and getting arrested for it. He refers to this incident quite a few times on this album (The Eminem Show) on other songs like sing for the moment and soldier. Kim (who's the mother of his daughter) and him have a very complex and toxic relationship with a lot of history which would take forever to type but I imagine you'll learn more about it as you get deeper into his discography. Although to put it simply they've been through A LOT of shit but they're now on good terms, separated, and co-parents.
@ethanross5402
@ethanross5402 5 ай бұрын
Also when he was referring to " do your CD, keep telling yourself you was a mom" (might've paraphrased a bit) he was referring to a "diss song" called "Dear Marshal" where she down played a lot of the stuff he addressed in this song. Last thing when he said "how dare you try to take what you didn't help me to get" he's referring to his mom tried to sue him for $10 million for defamation of character for the comments he made on songs like "The real slim shady", "My name is" and probably multiple others. She ended up only being awarded $25,000 as the best defence to defamation is if the statements were factual. They also have somewhat reconciled (they're still estranged I believe but cordial) and he's made a song addressing all of this called "Headlights" which I would also recommend (kinda brings closure to this song and their relationship).

@@FreyaReacts No problem, love the reactions. I used to listen to these songs when I was younger more for the music. I find once you really understand the backstory it really gives you another appreciation and a whole new meaning to a lot of his songs. I do have two other songs I recommend you check out whenever you get the chance although I warn you they are pretty emotional and deep. I’ll leave the links below but they both address his overdose and what led him to that point which was his best friend proof getting shot and killed. The first “going through changes” addresses his overdose and proofs passing. The second one “difficult” is a real tear jerker as it’s a tribute to proof. The context behind it is that it was actually one of the songs of a whole project that was leaked by one of his little brother Nathan’s friend (I don’t think he intended to release any of the songs on that project). You can hear in the song he’s holding back tears and slurring his words because it’s recorded during the time he was struggling with addiction. There’s a part in the song where he can’t even bring him self to mention his casket. It’s really moving but also tugs at your heart strings.

Him making headlights and apologising is because he's grown and wants to let go of his past hate for his mother before she passes because she's been worsening health wise. Also because he's older and realises she had actual mental issues that led her to behave the way she did, especially as a single parent that must be tough. I only say that because some people accuse him of fabricating his old music about his mother just because he doesn't want to play cleaning out my closet and made headlights. Which just isn't the case he's just 50 now and matured vs 25 and angry.

my dad left when I was 5, (abused moms) and of course as a kid, trying to make sense of it was impossible to do…the only things you know at that age is what and who you see everyday…so him no longer there…I normalized that abandonment… my mom asked me a few years ago I guess out of curiosity..if I found out he died…would I cry…and without hesitation I said “no”..she was taken back by my answer and asked why…told her “I can’t cry for a person I don’t know” and maybe that’s something that I need to sort out..but in hindsight, him leaving, taught me the most important lesson…I knew what type of person I wanted to be…and that was everything that he wasn’t

@15:21 The surface meaning of the grave digging is that his mother is inside of the grave he is digging because she is dead to him, hence “I’m sorry Mama, I never meant to hurt you…”. This is supported by his song “Just the Two of Us”, where he disposes of the body of his ex-wife Kim (there is a plot twist at the end) and by the later released song titled “Kim”. Eminem has apparently come to a quasi reconciliation with his mom (Debbie). He has vowed never to do the song “Cleaning Out My Closet” in concert ever again. I believe he covers some of this in his song titled “Headlights”.

@@FreyaReacts Enjoy your journey down Rabbit’s rabbit hole (8 mile refrence). Keep in mind that Mockingbird is kinda seen as one of if not THE last song from the Slim Shady persona. Think of Christopher Reeves or Henry Cavil. They are known on their own but are best known as Superman who is also know as Clark Kent. Marshall Mathers was known as Slim Shady who was also known as Eminem. We don’t see so much of the spaztastic Slim Shady since Mockingbbird. Marshall wrote that before his nearly fatal overdose as a love letter to his daughters, incase he never got to tell them how he felt. Eminem has been the majority of what we have seen since his “Recovery”. Eminem is more of a calculated lyrical assassin; every bit as dangerous… only a bit more steady.

The reason he dug 2 graves is because the first one was for his mother and the second one is for the victim she created.

You have to do it if you think about it like a movie and the creative mind of eminem and how he can put you there in that moment is genius and not think to deep about it but be prepared to be shocked

I'm gonna be honest with you if you listen to Eminem songs like you gotta pick the right songs some are just made to fill the album but songs like this , there's a couple but it paints out what happened to him and long story short he sold his soul soo he wouldn't lose his daughter at least that's what I gathered from it. Like in mocking bird he talks bout how he could afford to get his kids any gifts that year soo his wife at the time Kim wrapped presents up and told them they were from him. And saying goodbye to Hollywood is another song that suggest he souled his soul and regrets it. And fine line. That's kinda like were his mindset is right now. Some people sell there soul for fame or fortune but I honestly believe he did it just to make sure his daughter was ok and that he could be in her life
@FreyaReacts
@FreyaReacts 5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for that! Yeah, I've just been kind of going off of what y'all have been suggesting and that's been good to me so far in terms of actually learning and progressing through his music. I'm sure there is a ton more but, I do want to be respectful about it.
