Mother Throws Deaf Son Into Crocodile River | ISH News

In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident in Dandeli taluk of Uttar Kannada district, Karnataka, a 6-year-old deaf boy was allegedly thrown into a river infested with crocodiles by his mother following a quarrel with her husband.
Savitri, who worked as a house help, and her husband Ravi Kumar, a mason, had frequent arguments over the condition of their elder son, Vinod, who had been deaf since birth. The couple also has a two-year-old son.
Ravi Kumar reportedly criticized Savitri for giving birth to a deaf child and would often suggest getting rid of the child. On the evening of May 4th, after another fight about their son's disability, Savitri allegedly picked up the sleeping Vinod and threw him into a waste canal connected to the Kali river, known to be inhabited by crocodiles.
Realizing the gravity of her actions upon returning home, Savitri raised an alarm, seeking help for her son. Neighbors began searching for Vinod and alerted the police.
Despite efforts by the police and the rescue team, including divers, they were unable to locate Vinod due to darkness. The next morning, Vinod's body was recovered from the river with severe injuries and signs of a crocodile attack, including bite marks and a missing hand.
Authorities registered a case at the Dandeli Rural Police Station under IPC sections 109 (abetment of any offense, if the act abetted is committed in consequence) and 302 (murder) and arrested both Savitri and Ravi Kumar in connection with the incident.
Savitri, in her statement, blamed her husband for the tragedy, stating that he repeatedly expressed wishes for their son's demise. She expressed anguish over the situation, questioning how much suffering her son could endure if her husband continued to torment him.
The community has been left in shock and disbelief over the tragic loss of the young boy, highlighting the need for support and understanding for children with disabilities and the importance of addressing mental health issues within families.
