okay. as a multiple-time sexual abuse survivor, this song perfectly encapsulates the rage that can come with realizing what happened. sometimes you're just... angry. and sometimes that anger never goes away. (also, as someone else pointed out, "but what is he good for, if he just stay a spectator of war?" definitely comes off as seeing someone around your abuser who KNEW what they were doing or that they might do it, and not doing a single fucking thing to intervene when they absolutely could have.)

One of my favourite things about Mother Mother is their songwriting... they always throw these gems in among their more upbeat songs (not that the upbeat songs aren't also gems) and really remind you that this band loves to call out the human condition and just how screwed up we all are.

As someone who was gone through sexually abuse, I've always seen this from the perspective of a victim. Its weird to sort through but the anger is so on par with that of someone who A.) had someone watch them get abuse and did nothing to solve it and B.) watched that person be an abuser themselves. I mean with a line like " But what is he good for, if he just stay spectator of war?" Plus the amount of anger with something like "I'm gonna start with his liver, And throw it into a river of tar. I'm gonna move to his fingers, Can't play guitar, Can't play the rockstar. He'll have but nothing to talk about, He won't be able to flap his mouth. Cuz I'mma cut out his tongue. Can't kiss the girls. Can't fuck the young ones" It sounds like someone getting revenge on a perpetrator. For a long time I felt that way, I wanted revenge for being stolen from. I saw alot of people talk about the human condition and I couldn't help but throw this interpretation out there.

I think it’s more of self hatred and harming them selves. That’s why he has it out for himself. He punishes himself with loads of self destructive behavior. He takes it out on his friends for not doing anything and just watching him continue to harm himself so he becomes resentful and pushes them away too (this must be perceived because he mentions how said friend is a great person to him and even takes Ryan back in despite how badly he acts. The problem is he pushes em away still giving another reason to hate himself). He self harms by excessive drinking destroying his liver, smoking “river of tar”, stripping himself of his ability to be able to write music because of his struggle, etc you get the point. These are thoughts he might have with himself, look at the song Baby Boy which also references self destructive behaviors. As someone who hates themselves deeply and is self destructive, I relate to this... I wanna get out of this body, I don’t want to be me.

As a male victim of SA around 13-14 I completely relate with alot of this interpretation, I felt like I'd been taken from and I had nobody to do the justice for me, the police weren't interested because im a boy and my school ignored it, I was very angry and wanted revenge

@@SSEBBlue the more I listen to it. I totally see it. Mother mother in alot of their song (especially body comes to mind) about self-hatred. Just ripping yourself apart. Yours is more on point with the themes this band explores! But there is something so raw about the feeling of hatred and violation that just resonated with me as a victim of SA, but there is a sad reality that alot of times we are victims to our own violence.

I now understand that stemmed from a mix of the trauma and toxic masculinity of my early childhood but I'm very happy in my feminity as a trans woman and can talk about it without too much emotional issue, life goes on and you gotta make the most of the good parts of life

To me, this song is about sexual abuse as a child. Its done by someone who is close to you, so you feel as if its your fault. It manifests and you start to hate yourself. You start fantasizing about killing them and yourself. The line that follows all that they are going to do to the person that hurt them, "Can't fuck the young ones," really pulls my theory together.

To me, the lyrics of this song are the thoughts / dialogue of a person who’s experiencing a mental health crisis and breaking down; hence the lyrics “I have it out with myself” & “it’s gonna be world war III of myself”. The narrator has a friend who’s “been there” for them. This friend has his act together- he’s happy, and the other narrator is spiteful of him for this. He’s “just a spectator” of their inner turmoil. They feel that their friend can’t truly empathize with them, and that it’s not fair that they’re alone in their suffering. They grow to hate their friend for this. The graphic descriptions are of their intrusive thoughts, driven by this spite. The most interesting part (in my opinion) comes at the end of the song, when the narrator asks us “what about you?”. Their spite & anger is now being directed at us, the audience. We’ve replaced their friend. We’re now “there for” them, as they’ve just told us about their deepest, darkest urges.

Can't f*** the young ones" My dad dates women who are barely in their twenties, and multiple of them at once, he's a diagnosed narcissist who causes emotional abuse because he only cares about weed, and he constantly makes fun of me and my bro, he teases us for our interests and calls his girlfriends "trash" or "garbage" or "fatty" (which is really uncomfortable for me, since I was teased for being overweight, by school friends and even my own family) This song just reminds me of every time he makes me upset, I just wish I could get rid of him, but that's how I interpret it, I know this song is probably about sexual abuse and self-hatred, but that's just how I relate to the song, thank you for reading about my messed-up family, this song is kinda old but thank you mother mother for putting this feeling into words

That's because with MS the white blood cells in the blood erroneously attack the central nervous system and the brain, causing inflammation and swelling. On the road to recovery now, the medicine should take effect in 1-2 weeks and remove the dizziness over time.
