I remember first hearing“Pure Love” because i was playing a pandora playlist while i was having a mental breakdown, and then i just searched it on KZbin and played it on repeat for about an hour and a half while it cried myself to sleep 💀but the song made it one of those peaceful cries though where you just kinda forget about everything and just cry to cry, instead of it becoming a full on meltdown

The first part reminded me of Radiohead (which is great of course) but later on as I heard the drums and the guitar... the psychedelic Pink Floyd was there. Those influences are evident but they still sound original and experimental. Unique band. Amazing.

I was thinking the same thing! I love how MM and PF share the same habit of carrying themes and leitmotifs, not only that but I love how both bands show an emotional journey in song. MM Carries the seven leitmotif throughout the album, just like Pink Floyd Carries the brick in the wall leitmotif through that album.

This song is a journey, and coming back to it in 2023 is such a trip. I think it perfectly incapsulates how I was feeling during height of the pandemic -helpless, not knowing what was gonna happen, paranoid, and being self aware enough to recognize my relationships suffering and my mental health declining. It is easy to recognize this time as a pause, that no self-growth really happened, but it was a whole year and a half of witnessing horrible events, death, the decline of our community, and the exposure of the people in our society who hurt us the most. I came out of it a completely different person, as it was one of my lowest points. I was so mentally unwell by the time things were starting to go back to normal. A lot of people were in mental turmoil. Which is why I think the ending of this song is fitting as well- it swells, then goes back into the sounds of the city…alive. We lived through it. Time to process our losses, everything that happened, and how we will react. We are no longer stuck inside.
