Definitely another good example of the US cut still being a complete experience for those unable to read subtitles. The quicker pace definitely helps and the trims aren’t too inconsequential that you’d feel anything is missing.

Good job and great Toho classic! Never knew that Colombia was involved and it's odd that they cut out some of the action scenes. I prefer the Japanese version but admit I was more used to the us version when the fairies were speaking in the normal non frequency language. The fight scene with the main human character and the thugs is hilarious in the us version too lol. The soundtrack is also amazing in this film

The Peanuts a popular singing duet at least in Japan. Although if I remember correctly they wore on The Ed Sullivan Show in the mid-70s.

Mid-sixties. The Peanuts appeared on Sullivan on April 3, 1966. CBS cancelled the Sullivan show in 1971 and Sullivan himself died in 1974.

Thanks for this great video! I was surprised by such good special effects scenes being cut. Purists/elitists bemoan Harold Conway's (the Rolisican ambassador) acting because of his not speaking very good Japanese but, honestly, I have nothing but admiration for the man. He was in Japan living an adventure. One of the New Kirk City officials was played by Robert Dunham, who was the Seatopian emperor in GODZILLA VS. MEGALON.

Okay, check me on this. I SWEAR I came across in print somewhere... and I think ALSO on another KZbinr's vids... that BOTH "Ishiro" and "Inoshiro" Honda are correct... "Ishiro" being the shortened/casual version of his full name, "Inoshiro." (As we may call someone named "William" the casual names "Will" or "Bill.") I cannot say if this is true, but I do distinctly remember it as being written/said. I've Googled it and really got nowhere. Some sites say it's Ishiro, but no less than Turner Classic Movies lists him primarily as "Inoshiro" with "also know as Ishiro."
@PjKneisel5 ай бұрын
Everything I can see says it’s miscredited. “Inoshiro” appears to be a last name, and not at all related to Ishiro.

It's a little ironic, though understandable, that a few of the bits connecting Mothra to God and Christianity were snipped or cut, including the final narration (apparently from God). I'm a little fuzzy why Honda included it (was it in the original novel?) since he's much more of a secular humanist though with respect for native traditions at least culturally. Maybe it was a nod of appreciation to Christians who worked on the Kurosawa films?
@ericg1100 Жыл бұрын
I was very curious about this aspect too- i was commenting to my wife as we watched that the christian aspects must have been part of the Columbia co-financing since it wasnt common for a japanese movie to have these themes, so its super interesting thats not even present in the US version. I loved that it was included in the original cut of the movie, as it made sense with the climax where Mothra lands on the cross
