Pinched nerves, also known as compressive neuropathy conditions, are one of the most commonly implicated diagnostic theories used to explain combination neck pain symptoms in the upper body including: neck and shoulder pain, neck and arm pain, neck and hand pain and neck and finger pain. Compressed nerves are also usually blamed for causing many of the associated neurological symptoms which may occur in any of these areas, including tingling, weakness or numbness in the upper appendages. There could also be numerous possible causes for a trigger point, such as an poor head posture, acute injury, repetitive overuse, or irritation of facet joints in the spine, to name a few. Trigger point pain is thought to result from nodules-or tight “knots”-that develop in the otherwise smooth muscle. The number one rule I will teach you to overcome this condition is not to panic! I would never neglect the Dr from asking for an MRI. It saved my brothers life. He had bad neck pain and arm pain for a long time and finally had an MRI and found he had his spinal column almost close off an could have lost the use of his legs and arms. They ha to do an emergency surgery to fuse his neck. He is much much better.

I am married to one, and it used to bother me how invested my husband is in his patients out of his office hours. I mean he gives his cell phone number to some patients!!!! I used to hate it because it is my personal time with him. But , I came to the conclusion that this world needs more physicians like them! Specially since I started to have to health issues myself and have suffered the neglect from the modern medical field. Is blessing that I have someone that all he does is taking care his patients beyond almost any circumstances.

I have pinched nerve in C5 and this video was 100% accurate to describe my problems with it. My observations from last 3 years with this problem is that best thing you can do is to strengthen your neck muscles and focus on posture. My new daily routine is little bit of self-massage at the back of the neck. Then rotating head to all possible direction, so stretching. And lastly but the most important is to strengthen those neck muscles. I try to rotate my head in different directions and press against that rotation with my hands. Best thing for your health is to activate and strengthen your muscles around the body.

I’m also suffering the same herniated disc problem and after looking at MRI all doctors strongly pressed me to go for surgery but I’ve taken opinions from physiotherapists as well. They said don’t panic I then trusted them , did physiotherapy regularly , maintained correct posture and get rid of this pain in my left hand radiating from the c7, c8. I wish you would have also got opinions too from experts and made decision accordingly!!

I have watched a lot of your informational videos Doc. I am a doctor myself and 10.years ago i was found to have cervical spondylosis and was on and off on physical therapy. Two years ago i had a whole spine MRI and found disc bulges from C1 to T1 plus a disc bulge between L5S1. Lately, i already developed i think radiculopathy on both hands and legs down to the feet and hands. I have a bad posture coupled with my work on looking thru the microscope as a pathologist and working hours in front of the computer making pathology reports made a toll on my intervertebral discs. I hope i could still recover and experience pain free days by improving posture and doing the exercises you are telling us. I am 54 now and i hope its not too late. God Bless you Doc.

You introduced me to the notion that scalene muscles may be responsible for what I have thought is cervical radiculopathy worsening over the past 4-5 months that has literally made my life awful and thinking I need invasive approaches. After just a few tigger point presses, I have so much relief. I can’t believe it. Specifically the anterior scalene is screaming all the way down my shoulder, arm, and trap. I’ve done chiropractic, Rolfing, BEMER micro-circulation therapy, yoga, massage, cold plunge, hot tubs, acupuncture, Shiatsu, PT, with the potential for getting MRI done, you name it. Turns out it may have been this simple, so I’m hopeful I can keep working on it at home and fix it.

As a musician who was unable to use my left arm for a semester of college due to TOS, I thank you so much for this video and info. I later went on to discover trigger point therapy and learned first hand how that helped the problems of weakness, tingling and aching all down my left arm and into my fingers. I am now not only a musician, but a licensed massage therapist. Thank you so much for sharing this info (and for plugging massage therapists! ). Posture Posture Posture!!! I'm a fan, Doc!

My MRI showed mild C3-4 and moderate C5-6. It Explained my numbness, tingling, twitching from face, neck, arm, finger tips and shoulder on my left side. I panicked and thought I was having a stroke. I work at a computer data entry 10 hours a day. My doctors don’t explain where my symptoms come from & why or how I can fix it. I do my exercises and feel better when away from work. Thanks Dr M for taking the time to care about our health.

Broke my neck at C4 C5 April 2 1988. I was offered 5 vertibrate fusion with replacement of C2 with an artificial to absorb the extra shock. In 1990 some people fell for it. I got a heavy duty Rebock inversion table. I was able to go back to work using it. The choice my friend chose left him wondering what was coming in the mail tomarrow. He has in home help but is far from happy.

Doctor, you are fantastic. I wish I would have seen your videos before I had my 4th back surgery. The motto in todays medicine is "A chance to cut is a chance to cure." The pain is worse, by far, after the last one. Working as an ICU nurse put extreme stress on my back and I was told that surgery would help. Each time. You are giving us the tools and knowledge to preserve our health. Thank you so much for all the information and for having such a passion to help and protect ourselves as patients. Bless you.

So many doctors are now strongly suggesting neck/spinal surgery for nerve compression as the only option. They keep saying the problem will get worse without it. Neck surgery scares me, and few people feel really better a year or years after surgery.

I am so happy I found your video. 8 weeks agony trapped nerve even going to chiro, issues releasing it due to reduced space for the nerves. So much pain I was really ready to give up. I now have so much hope that I can have a life again. I just wish I could post your link to everyone I know and that they would post it out to their friends with children, but unfortunately until you have the problem most people do not listen. I'm a 62 yr old female who has sat at a desk for all my working life and when the chance to go part time lead to more gardening, exercise, I went down with pain so bad I couldnt sleep for 4 weeks. I thought i was intelligent over keeping health with good food but failed to realise what issues age would bring.

Thank you so much for this video!! When I was in Thailand I was hospitalized for the worse pain I’ve ever had. I mean I can tolerate a lot of pain. Anyway the pain wasn’t in my neck but my right arm, shoulder, scapula, brachial hand, and numbness in 2 fingers. I thought I was gonna die, felt like a raw nerve. MRI showed c-5-6. Ruptured disc. After 5 weeks I’m still recovering. Haven’t started PT but you’ve given me hope. You’re right « Don’t panic!!

You Doc, have helped me tremendously through the agony of the gripping, paralyzing pain in my neck and upper back. The twenty minutes twice a week in cervical traction (physical therapy) did nothing during my daily agony. Then your vids began appearing in my feed and I had great motivation to listen, and I learned about posture...I've been mindfully practicing the exercises you've provided and the agony is gone! I sure do appreciate your good advice. It has been a blessing in my life. Many heartfelt thanks 🙏🏽

I have a severe scoliosis due to compression fracture of T12. 2 spinal surgeries, one in neck and 1 in sacrum. Wont go near chiropractor since they started using Italian "electronic" gadgets that defy reality. I know enough about electronics and mecanics to tell its all a bunch of voo doo for your pocket book. Its been 40 years with extreme scholiosis and now a dowagers hump. Woe is me!
