Another benefit of getting it done and doing what you have to, all you need to, is that you’re free to be happy and relax after and you should. Discipline doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to be happy and relaxed. It means you’re not allowed until you’ve done what you have to!

This time six years ago I was addicted to cocaine and fentanyl, I had a DUI, lost my job and my car, even had my bike stolen because I blacked out in a bush on my way home. I got my act together. Slowly. Went to rehab, started talking to my family again, started trying to figure out how to live a life I could be proud of. I got clean and I started to help other people get clean. I started working out and taking my life seriously and I went back to school and man, just last week I got the call that I’m moving across the country to get my PhD in clinical psychology-and I’m still just getting started. If you’re reading this, keep working hard, especially when it’s hard. It’s worth every second.

Make your own motivation 💪 Too many days i've sat in bed feeling sorry for myself, constantly doubting and putting myself down to the point 2 decades later my life amounted to nothing. Last year was the end of that shit. It's a long road, it's rough, I keep falling back into old habits. But each time, it's not as bad as the last. Each time I get back in that hole it's getting easier to pick myself back up. The thoughts that use to tell me "You're pathetic. You can't do anything right. You're just another loser." turned into "What are you doing? Crying about it's not gonna do anything, get up. I'm not losing this fight no matter how many times I fall." Take your moment to be lazy, take your moment to feel sorry for yourself, take your moment to hurt and wanna quit...and then wake up and realize you're stronger and more capable than you can ever imagine. You only lose when you quit.

I never understood discipline. I had motivation. I would get it done… eventually. I now understand discipline. I wrote something and hung it over my door: Every day it will seem impossible, and every day you will do it anyways. There is no option. It seems undoable. You resent it. It seems impossibly hard. Sure you were pumped to do it when you were thinking about it helping you etc. Now it’s time to do it and it’s terrifying it’s hard it’s every bad thing. You do it anyways. Every fucking day. All your doubts will be there. All the fear the insecurity every bad thing. You do it anyways.

Now the question is , how do you keep going and being beaten down every single day, exhausted, almost ready to give up, and you do that until you reach that nice warm place in life what you call success

Had a narcissist alcoholic father in childhood.. I came back for him when I was 26 cause my mother abandoned him in hospital. Got depressed, addicted to porn, no friends, no nothing. I grinded programming like an idiot despite everything. I went even in starvation till I got the career I wanted and I got it. Even thought I am 32 and I wasted my 20s completely and I am still immature about some aspects of life, I am glad I didn't lived a life by the norms cutting corners. Haven't had a girlfriend in 13 years, still don't have a driving license, at least I am appreciated at work and I am fixing my teeth. I had a chance to connect with a woman but I realized I don't need groomers and emotional comfort. I wanna meet strangers, I wanna feel comfortable talking to strangers and appreciate their qualities. Every day I go to the office, I walk 14km a day, I don't wanna work from home, I don't enjoy waking up everyday at 5 am to be home at 20 but I do it anyway because I am the owner of my will.

When no one around you believes in what you're doing, their attitude starts to feel like it comes from a place of looking down on you and what you try to do, remember why you do it. 99% of people who like or appreciate something don't know how much goes into it, what some things require. When you no longer need someone's approval or reasoning, their perspective or rationale, you will get closer to becoming the thing you are trying to become. The reason they aren't what you are trying to become is because they can't, they don't want to, they will never understand what that achievement will require. You are looking to the wrong people for the right answers. Focus on what your goals are, not others goals for you.

You can find rationalization to do the harder, more time-consuming thing. Then it won't be as much of a fight. There's motivation right there. All of these men are rationalizing the grind in a way that propels them foward. I've found doing things that you hate over and over again without convincing the brain beforehand to backfire. This is one rationalization to do the harder thing: I recently heard comfort can have negative side effects. The body acclimates to each new comfort introduced, and the previous number of comforts we indulged in becomes unacceptable. Today's comfort is tomorrow's discomfort. Comfort creep. Pleasure and pain are in a balance, and the brain seeks to maintain it in this state of equilibrium, in which neither predominates for too long. When there's an imbalance to the side of pleasure, the brain tips the scales in the opposite direction; it becomes overly sensitized to pain: boredom, anxiety, depression, etc. So you require more stimulus than before to get the same level of pleasure, and the pain and discomfort we feel is more acute and longer lasting. You can deliberately seek discomfort in order to make what you already have feel like pure bliss to have, and realize that a lot of things that seem not meant for you, simply feel unacceptably boring or difficult because of comfort creep. This rationale is in the video titled Pursue Pain, Not Pleasure - Why Comfort is Crippling You by Academy of Ideas.
