Thanks Piet. Our railways have become an unfortunate joke. At least you still have some functionality in the Cape. In Kempton Park you never see any trains on the main line to Pta. They only replaced the catenaries a few months ago. I drive to work every day along about 3 km of line. Have only seen one train in months. You guys still have trains but the diesels are smoking wrecks, needing to tow along other locomotives to help because they may not be able to make the trip. It brings tears to the eyes when I remember the excellent and proud SAR of 30 years ago and before.

Hi oom Piet awesome video as usual. The class 20E was more likely going to Worcester and beyond as the line voltage is 50kv AC at Salkor and the 20E is only capable of 25kv AC

Hello Darryl, thanks for the excellent comment!. I do not know the proper story about the appearance of the 20E. If I am not mistaken 20E's in the past have visited the Salkor depot to utilize the under floor wheel lathe there. Not sure if it still is the case.

2:23, Strange thing, The train made to enter the loop line platform, didn't stop and again back into mainline to proceed. Why would they do that?

Since the covid era the signal house is unmanned, so the switches are permanently locked to visit the platform for use by the metros. So all trains visit the platform.

@@Oktolibre No, after the COVID lockdown they were probably re-deployed as there is very little switching needed at this point - very few mainline trains now - Transnet is not operating at optimum levels.

I am not sure what the story is. The 20E might have visited the Saldanha depot. They have a proper wheel lathe there.
