The differential isn't glass, it just has a Design flaw that is easily mended. The differential pin that the spider gears rotate on, is held in place by a very weak roll pin. Overtime the shock load from heavy shifting and burnouts and such, shear off that roll pin, It drops the pin, and spits the spider gears out of the case. Simple fix, weld the differential pin in place And it will hold 400whp All day although it will still be open differential or buzz off the ring Gear Rivets And install an M factory Helical LSD . The gears themselves will hold up to about 400 wtq pretty reliably

Ex 1990's Mazda trained tech here: Those gearshift bushes are indeed still available from Mazda, they used them on about 30 different models over the years, been a great earner for Mazda.. The side gears exiting the trans case was a super common thing in these things, they just can't handle the torque and one wheel spinning. You might be able to get a mechanical LSD from the USA for it from streetunit in the USA, they are made for the Mazdaspeed Protege but they use the same basic G series gearbox and should fit with some mods. And oh man I have lost count how many exhaust studs i've replaced over the years on those cars!

I bought a 1990 white MX6 turbo off my dad too. All 108kw of POWA. 0-100 in 7 secs was wicked when my dad bought it new for $27000. Gearing was wicked short as I remember. At least 3000rpm at 100kmh - right on boost 😀

I owned a 2WS ‘91 MX-6 Turbo around 12 years ago; charcoal grey, 3” catback, GFB BOV, pod, rims & rubber - I loved it to pieces, but she was a bit “fragile,” lol!! What I spent keeping her on the road in 4 years of ownership would’ve bought the BA XR6 I replaced her with when she finally expired. Really, really looking forward to this series!! : )
@ryubiggie3 жыл бұрын
Thank you!!!! So much I have been waiting for this since you hinted at it last year. So stoked!! I learned to drive in a 91 non-turbo one... The sloppy shifter that's just like the one I drove. You just need to drill out the rivots in the linkage and change the bushings. They are the same for both ends of the shifter rod. Also the ticking is the HLA's aka lifters. Run a little atf in the oil and get the dried up sludge/ carbon out then change the oil and it will be mint. The one I drove had 270k miles or about 430,000k's on it before we got rid of it. That engine is a tank.
