Moto G 2nd Gen: Dead Battery Fix (Might work on other Android Phones)

If you let your Moto G 2nd Generation's battery die this could happen. Even with hours of charging the battery will stay at 0%. This is a fix for that problem.
This problem is actually caused by a boot loop that prevents the battery from charging.
Going into Fastboot mode and letting the Moto G charge through there fixes the problem.

This worked for me after about 5 hours of charging. I used my Samsung charger instead of the Moto charger which apparently is more powerful than the Moto charger. After about 20-30 minutes of charging I did the Fastboot TWICE and it finally worked. Be patient and keep trying different solutions!

After hours trying, I fixed the problem using these steps: Plug in the turbo charger and let the phone boot for 3-6 times. Open fastboot mode and select Normal Powerup fast and its done. Some things that I figured out: The vibrator + white screen full brightness consumes too many power that makes the phone shut down. When in normal powerup, pressing volume down and power helps the phone to pass the vibrator moment (I think this combination of pressing keys let the phone charge more) I think the phone doesn't charge in fastboot mode with the device locked, black screen either. The way I clicked the power button matters. Its better to apply pressure perpendicular to the phone, on the center of the power button. My phone is a Moto X 2ºgen XT1097, and has some battery problems like shutting down at 50% when I use it (Consume more charge, like open the camera or unlocking it). The 0% problem happened because I let the battery end without unlocking it.

My Moto X 2nd gen got stuck in a boot loop and would not boot. When plugged into the charger a tiny green led light appeared above the earpiece. I placed it on the Moto charger overnight but it wouldn't boot. The green led light indicates the battery is too weak to boot. This is caused, as "Cauchypotato" describes, by the phone getting stuck in a boot loop. I used his technique to get into the Fast Boot menu and selected "Recovery". The system attempted to recover and the screen went dark but the green led went out. This indicated the system was charging. I let the phone charge for several hours and it successfully booted. No data was lost. The "Recovery" breaks the boot loop. Motorola wanted $125 dollars to fix this problem with a 5 day turn around. Thanks You Cauchypotato.

Mine would flash the moto screen for a second then reboot. Using your technique didn’t break the cycle. But unplugging the usb. Then hold power and volume down. Then plug-in. It started to charge and the loop was broken. Thanks for the information. It sent me down the right path.

If the battery is old and had enough after 3 years of heavy use and shuts down when there's 50% left. Then if this happens with the dreaded green light of death. It can take hours fiddling with fastboot and recovery and holding down the buttons to get the battery to get that 1%. Use the stock charger when the green light comes on. Seems to help a lot. Always keep the phone plugged in if the battery is old and shutting off at around 50% to avoid this problem and save up for a new phone. These are old phones now. Its not worth the hassle of a new battery. I finally got a new phone after a year of this battery shutting off. It's a horrible design flaw Moto did and that vibrate at boot takes most of the current.

you are the best man, everyone is saying that you should disassemble your battery, send the phone to repair, change your charger and a lot of stuff, but it's as simple as this, although in my case it only stayed for like 5 minutes in fastboot and then went back to the white screen with the battery but in this case it was on 5%... after a few minutes I turned the phone on and now is chargin normal and everything is working normal! There is another solution, may be not generally applicable, but with some phones / tablets: use a USB 'power bank' type external battery for initial charging. This has no electronics built in that says "something is wrong" and then cuts off (as some 'wall plug' chargers will do).

This is actually a serious design flaw of Motorolas since the very charging process will cause natural heating of the temperature, and this is misinterpreted by Motos as a threat to the battery, therefore it cuts the charging altogether, the phone stops charging. Only solution I found to this is charging the phone powered down connected to USB in computer (minimal charge current) but it takes the whole night to charge 50%. Severe design flaw. Still happens on new Motos too, not just older ones.

An easier way to do this [that works with my Moto X gen 2] is to hook it up to a high power 2-2.5A charge adapter at least until 10%, then plug back into normal charger. The MAIN problem is, that damn HUGE white screen that drains the battery as fast as it is trying to get charged when you connect to a low power charger. The boot loop is caused by the massive screen battery drain. When he does the trick above, it leaves the phone screen black which does not drain the battery as much. It is an IPS screen with active backlights, battery killer.

My wife somehow got the tiny tab, that's supposed to go in the middle of the plug bent down. I had no idea! Bent it back up. Now it works like a charm! guys listen ... the above video will only work if u have disabled locking of ur phone (i.e. password or pattern etc.) becz ur USB can detect ur phone only wen its unlocked not while its locked.... bt u can solve this issue.... u can use normal wall charger... jus open up the fast boot option like the guy did in video (sometimes dosnt pop up at first try bt keep on trying) aftr dat jus select the normal powerup option like in video and then wait ... make sure ur phone is charging while accessing fast boot... ur battery screen should show % other than 0... it worked for me....

I tried as shown in video, screen appeared it is showing battery low and not the battery low(charging). Also it's showing device locked, Status Code 0 I still selected normal power up, and kept for an hour, it dint get charged. Instead phone is getting heated up. I think its the same problem, USB charging is not getting detected because device is locked. Any suggestions on that? I cant unlock the phone without seeing the home screen. I tried that too, when it went to switched off, i connected charger. As soon as I connect charger, it automatically starts the same loop. Also I just went to Moto service center, they said its software issue and asked me to leave for a day, I was not very sure so I got my phone back. I thought I will only do the recovery/factory settings but my worry is it doesn't have much charge and if i go ahead to do factory settings with wall charger connected to it, i m not sure whether it will get charge during the process, if it doesn't then it might get stuck in between and phone might go dead for all.

I have a MOTO e Android and it has started powering down when the battery is below 87% -- hardly a drained state. Then it won't boot up unless plugged into a power source -- showing a white screen with plug icon. If I do plug it in, it'll eventually show a black charging screen -- while phone is powered down -- which shows actual battery charge- like 87%. As long as it shows some charge I can boot it up. However it was most inconvenient when I didn't have power for a week due to a hurricane.

Haha I do it differently, I searched other thing actually but I thought if you have that problem, I do it like this 1.remove the charging cable 2.use the long push on power up, wait until the low battery light comes at the top of your phone 3.plug the charging cable And if it doesn't work do it many times I promise it will work because sometimes I have the same problem and then I do that and everything is fixed Hope I helped you

+Ankur Saha if your LED does not blink and in your screen does not show a battery image, plug your original charger and than press the power bottom for about 2 min exactly, and verify if LED blinks, now leave the Moto G on the charge for about 15 min.

I have a problem when I charge my phone I have 100% bar now but when I play it for long it is still 100% that's why I don't know how many charge that I have pls help me
