I am getting slowly drawn into these videos of older, nice Italian motorcycles. Big, 1970s and 80s Guzzis are quite a thing. I swore off motorcycles when we were expecting our first child ... But as the youngest is now 22, perhaps I can venture back. All I have now (not touched for 30 years) is an old Moroni 3 1/2 Sport with a 501 motor on it. It was not an uncommon bodge back in the day for another 10bhp or so. It would take a real restoration, but I have cabinets full of unused spares. Perhaps it is the time. These videos of older Italian bikes still doing what they do best are a sort of inspiration. Miles and miles on a lazy "big" Guzzi takes me back. Confession: My favourite Guzzi was always the V50 Monza, which at the time most people seemed to hate.

If you do decide to venture back to riding, it is always a good idea to take a refresser course. I did, after a 30 year hiatus. A lot had changed in 30 years: more traffic, high road speeds, more distractions and more powerfull bikes. And your skill and reaction time will have suffered. A good training course will get you up to speed and help keep you safe. Good luck. Nick

@@nick949eldo A good suggestion, well taken. I'm not so proud I can't see that I no longer have the reactions I had at 21. I have been a keen cyclist since childhood and drive modern and classic cars, so traffic will not surprise me. But I know it will be quite a shock if I ever ride a motorcycle again. Cycling has taught me too that past 45 our bones and joints are no longer made of rubber. They crack and it hurts. It wouldn't be a "modern", so there wouldn't be that moment of Hyabusa terror. Nonetheless it would shock me. Besides which, it would take me about five minutes to fold myself onto the Morini. Never mind kick-starting it. 😊😐😕😒☹️

Super cool bike! I had a 76 auto honda 750, the experts say they weren’t so good but I loved mine. I didnt know of this bike. Not sure why. And *I* am a recent Guzzi “convert” with a California 1400. Just an amazing motorcycle and I have no idea why I have been riding BMWs for the last 35 years of the 50 years I have been riding. Total convert in any case and great video.

I love my convert. Noting that you have changed from the OEM screen. Mine makes my eyeballs shake so I took it off. That looks like a good solution. I would describe the riding position as 'majestic'.

Actually Mick, the screen is off at the moment. I dislike the darn things but they do cut the wind in winter. See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnrEpWZvZtucaKM

Great video! Am currently working on a '77 Convert...engine seized (took 3 wks to free up)and very rusty. I am slowly restoring it back to health and plan to finish for summer of '20. Thanks for showing me what I have to look forward to!

Hi Rick If you haven't already, consider joining the 'Gearless Guzzi' Facebook page. Purely Convert knowledge, help and chat there: facebook.com/groups/2078022775762728 It's worth the effort to get yours rolling - they are weird but addictive.

Redirects for wildlife and architecture definitely add to the interest Nick. I assume the bridge covers are more about structural strength than somewhere for motorcyclists to stop and put on their waterproofs.
@nick949eldo3 жыл бұрын
The covered bridges are all about the snow POC. It's easier to keep the road free of snow by covering it than try to plough it. They are common in Quebec, parts of the Maritimes and the northern New England States.

Old bikes make the ride more special. Was that a porcupine or a wolverine in the road?
@nick949eldo5 жыл бұрын
Yep. Porcupine - blackest I've ever seen. I wish it had been a wolverine though. That would have been truly special.

I'm getting a 78 Convert back on the road. Any recommendations for tires?
@nick949eldo5 жыл бұрын
Sorry 97Irishflyer, I missed this one. I use Duro HF308s. They're dirt cheap, are a bit noisy and don't last too long but I like the look and feel of them. A bit like Dunlop K70s
@mickwall12865 жыл бұрын
I have a convert, and have tried to use the stock screen. Once I had found my eyeballs again I took this off and replaced it with a much lower item. OK, but I'd like the stock screen height. What are you using, and is it satisfactory?
@nick949eldo5 жыл бұрын
Actually I dislike all windscreens and am far happier without it. I'm not sure who made this one but it is noisy and blustery - but it minimizes the chill in really cold weather. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

It is a lovely video thank you. Unfortunately the pedant in me is demanding that I say the Moto Guzzi engine is an inline V-twin. Harley Davidson have a transverse V-twin. It is the orientation of the crankshaft to the bike's direction of travel which is used to define this. Okay I'm going to try to stifle the pedant in me now…
@nick949eldo4 жыл бұрын
You're right, of course, but most people (including me) would be a bit confused to think of it that way. These days I try to refer to it as 'an across the frame v-twin' as that is undeniably accurate. Never stifle the inner pedant :)
@brighton_dude4 жыл бұрын
@@nick949eldo - Yes that is a good solution. I'm going to let the inner pedant breath now. When you own a Guzzi you spend your life telling people "the zeds are pronounced like pizza".

Thanks JJ. Second week of May, but we've had a late Spring this year. There are some excellent roads in that part of Quebec - perfect for any Moto Guzzi. Of course, in the Fall, not all the leaves are brown.
