Normal flagship phones are released- "I wish they'd be more innovative and take chances with new ideas!" Motorola flagship phone gets released. It's clear they're trying to compete with the best by being innovative- "Bah I wish Motorola was more like the other phones!" People have gotten so spoiled. Motorola isn't perfect but if you travel allot, the z series with mods rocks. Be it taking pictures, listening to music, sharing movies or being able to hot swap batteries, it's not perfect but the best on the market. There's better phones that do things better but just as well as other cookie cutter flagship phones but no other phone can do what a Z can with mods. Just my two cents.

As someone who has had the z2 force since it came out (2 days earlier due to pre-order, actually), I can say that this phone is worth the money so far. Unless you're legit mistreating your phone (purposely dropping it, dragging the screen on something, etc), the wear and tear factor is pretty much non-existent. I have a total of 2 scratches that are so minor you can't see them unless the screen is off and you stare at it long enough. As for the battery, everyone brings their charger with them anyhow. I go all day from 8 in the morning when I unplug my phone to leave the house, until around 5 before it gets to 20% (my General "Ok let's charge my phone now" battery percent). The battery isn't a problem if you actually live a life outside of your phone. I don't browse social media all day, don't watch KZbin all day, none of that. I go to college and for the most part I'm not using my phone but for brief moments to respond to texts, etc. If you only use your phone casually when away from home, the battery isn't an issue. If you use it all day all the time, maybe invest in the battery mod (which I have yet to do, as I don't need to). The free projector mod is wonderful as now my whole wall is my television at night before bed. Occasionally my ceiling when I don't want pillows propping my head up. I'm not much of a picture person, but the depth effect is really wonderful. As for black and white, I haven't tried that out yet. The fingerprint scanner is wonderful too, and you can still have another password in case your finger isn't working for whatever reason (I set both thumbs and pointer fingers as my fingerprint password). It runs games such as PPSSPP Emulator, Monster Hunter Freedom, with excellent speed and graphics maxed out. Losing the headphone jack was a little depressing at first because I didn't feel like carrying a small cable around to attach when I wanted to use my headphones. So, I invested 60$ on a durable Bluetooth headset. Well worth it. Basically, if you only casually use your phone to text or call, or KZbin / movies when at home, this phone is worth it. The only way it'll bring you down is if you are careless and drop your phone a lot on things like concrete, gravel and sand. Even so, you should be fine. Perhaps in a year or two if I remember I'll post an update. If someone sees this a year from now, comment and I'll get an email and respond. Until then~

Actually they sell nano technology screen protectors that is just a liquid coat that will prevent any scratches. Might want to add a note.

They should have included a plastic screen protector (as a glass one wouldn't be needed since the screen won't shatter) and a battery mod (just a small one, like 500mAh or so to not make the other mods irrelevant) to make up for these cut corners and the high price.

shatter proof but in exchange it become less less scratch resistance. this will be hard unless they create a 99% fit tempered glass that covered all sides so the main screen still protected from scratch yet still shattered proof so if you accidentally drop it, the mains screen is shatter proof but still protected in scratch because of tempered glass.

What I do really like about Moto Z lineup is the Moto mods and style and the Battery saving mode it can take more and a week to standby mode and more than 30hrs of using without worrying battery will end more than a day...And Yes the display is Awesome,camera is fine and yes flash on front camera is a thumbs up for more selfies😇 on dark night areas...

Arguing about cell phones is the definition of a first world problem. Use your heads, don't pay $700 or whatever for any phone, wait a few months and get it free or better on contract. I got the Moto z a few months after it came out free on 2 year contract plus a $100 visa gift card when you do it online. So I got the jbl speaker mod. So I invested nothing except 30 bucks for a case. Think kids, no phone is worth nearly a grand.

I'm so on the fence about getting this phone... but if the screen is scratched so easily it really deters me. If they switched to gorilla glass like Samsung it's definitely a contender for me to switch from my s7. The moto mods definitely make it tempting

Well the sad thing is, everyone will just end up getting a Samsung if they were to get an android phone, also taking into account the Moto's extreme price (of which, I am aware is on par with the S8). It misses out on key features such as IP 68 water resistance, as well as an overall less pleasing design

SeeB Zo I wouldn't want to get a phone that I have to protect it with a clumsy casing and glass at the back? Looks good but fragile.... I would go for the Z force because it looks good but despite the battery smaller than the previous model. I rather hv a smaller battery than a fragile phone

Don't be fooled by the battery size. I had low expectations for battery life with under 3,000 mAh size and quad HD screen before I got the phone. I am a stickler for battery life. I easily get 6.5 hours screen time over 1.5 days on 1 charge. For some odd reason, I actually hit 7.5 hours screen on time over 2 days on 1 charge just today. Shocked! I must have used youtube less and did more chrome browsing to reach 7.5 hours screen time. I do use some battery saving tips found on youtube like the turn off wifi while sleeping setting, turn off NFC & bluetooth when not in use and block the unneeded notifications from certain apps... It easily outperforms my Moto X Pure battery 3,000 mAh battery (3.5 hours screen time over 1 day and that was with battery saving tips) and it isn't far off from my BATTERY KING Moto Z Play (+9 hours screen time over 3 days on 1 charge)..... I have the thin profile battery mod and I really haven't found the need to use.

About what you said at 3:02 I don't think so, it will not work, people just won't be buying a phone like this. It's like the main target was to make a thin phone. Fullstop. No headphone jack, almost no battery, no water resistance, no sense in the price, therefore no reason for anyone to buy this phone with phones such as the Galaxy S8, LG G6, Honor 9 etc in the game. Motorola, Lenovo, whoever is behind this phone, wake up if you want your sales to increase. You really don't want a university student like me to tell you what customers want from a phone today. Come on!

If the mods were actually affordable and useful this would've been a great phone. Unfortunately the mods are pretty damn expensive and some of the things could have just been built in instead. (For example why have a battery mod instead of making built in battery bigger)

This phone I reviewed for two weeks . It's a smokin phone. Fast as hell. No lag, games are quick, the batt being smaller is something to think about , but who here that's a heavy user can get a whole day out of it? So everyone keeps a charger near them. Even the turbo 2 with heavy use won't last a day.

+daraius sanjana, well there is a problem there. My screen BROKE, I have had the think about a month and it BROKE. And Motorola WONT HONOR THE WARRANTY. I kid you not they say "any physical damage on the phone voided the warranty" . In other wards if the phone breaks the warranty is VOID. Seem only phones than never break are under warranty.
@Seventh_Elf
@Seventh_Elf 7 жыл бұрын
TheShowThatSUX How'd it break? I've had mine since 2 days before initial release (pre ordered) and it's still fine. 2 small, hardly noticeable scratches, that's it.

+Seventh Elf, in my pocket of all things. It has been nowhere but in my pocket or on a table when I am using, or in my hand when I am using it. I have a 0.5cm crack in the screen that is deep enough that the screen is rainbow when it should be white. Sticks out like a sore thumb. Basically a broken screen, no clue if mine was just defective or what, but according to moto SCREW ME AND THEY WONT HONOR THE WARRANTY
@Seventh_Elf
@Seventh_Elf 7 жыл бұрын
TheShowThatSUX Well, pretty sure it's either defective or you did something to it like stabbing it with a knife xD mine is great, is in ym hands or pocket all day, and really was worth it. As for warranty, idfk why you'd need one and they probably believe you did something to it. Have they seen it? Like, had it in their own hands to observe what happened etc? If not, and they're declining the warranty, it's pretty fucked up. if so, they probably expect mistreatment. Most warrentys are void if someone mistreats it (like purposely dropping it down the stairs, if it breaks, the warranty is voided. It was your fault, not an accident)

SUPER BIASED REVIEW! I own this phone and the previous shatterproof (Turbo 2). I can personally dispute most of you assumptions regarding screen durability, And with software updates and optimization i get 5 to 10 hours battery life daily. If your using your phone literally all day you SHOULD have an external battery pack or battery case no matter what phone it is. The plastic screen feels exactly like glass to nearly everyone ive asked! My phone + a glass protector equals scratch proof and shatter proof unlike most phones on the planet. All i can say about the camera is learn how to adjust iso, shutter speed and aperture manually. if you cant get good pics with this phone its on you not the phone. Anybody feel free to ask me ( a daily user of this phone ) questions. I can attest that this review does not do this phone justice.

I have the phone, and it ROCKS! It is really light, most likely because it does not use a glass screen. But, you have to get a screen protector. I bought a 3 pack of temper glass screen protectors as the screen is shatter proof, but not scratch proof. What I don't understand about this guy's complaint about getting a screen protector is... Who doesn't get one? Glass screen or not, they get scratched up really easy. Even with Gorilla Glass 5. As for the battery, it is still good. The Snapdragon 835 is much more power efficient than previous Snapdragon SOC's. But I do agree they should have put in a larger one. The smaller one may have to do with his conspiracy theory of Lenovo trying to sell more moto mods, or it may be they were trying to keep the phone as slim as possible. Which I think it is the slim thing as Apple Zealots have nothing to claim that their phone is better for anymore other than how thin the iPhone is.

And all I keep getting back is that Bluetooth is the future, and the headphone jack is outdated, and USB type-c, or in Apple's case, the lightning Port headphones sound much better than the headphone jack.....:( I get it, Bluetooth is nice and convenient, however I have never scene a Bluetooth pair of earbuds that would be able to last me all day without recharging. That's why I will stick to regular headphones. They sound fine to me, and I don't want a big pair of over-the-ear headphones to Lug around and deal with all day.. and the only way I have seen 30 hours of battery life on a pair of bluetooth headphones was over the ear big, boxy headphones.

I'm definitely not for removal of headphone jack but if they continue to remove it then I'll just save my money and go for midrange phones which are good enough now.

areeb1296 Well, and not even all Motorola phones leave it out. The mid-range and budget phones from Motorola still have the headphone jack. Why keep the headphone jack on the mid-range Moto Z play, as well as the G Series and E Series. If you're going to remove it from your Flagship, then why not get rid of it on all your models?. The thing that really bothers me is why does every manufacturer have to copy each other for removing features? And how does Samsung managed to keep it in their Galaxy phones, yet still make them thinner and thinner? People tell me that the headphone jack takes up too much space, then how does the Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S8 have it? Those phones are pretty compact with all the specs stuffed inside of them.

love Motorola and I can deal with the no headphone jack, suspect battery life because if you don't plan on buying this phone without using mods there's no point, I can deal with the thinness, but I CANNOT deal with that price lol for a phone that "unbreakable" but easily scratchable and not really water proof, and I have to spend money for a screen protector and MODS, nice try, this comes across as scammy, will wait...

Actually there is a 4 year warranty on the shatterproof screen. Don’t know why you claim they did away with it. Just picked one up at US Cellular for 300 dollars on a one week sale. Also the free projector deal on top of that. So 1250 worth of phone and accessories for next to nothing. Score!

...Just not into the modular technology... The "bare bones" Moto Z2 Force price tag is too damn high for what you're actually getting, and you haven't even purchased a single mod (even to supplement that under 3000 mAh on-board battery) yet! In my opinion, the LAST good Motorola flagship was the 2015 Moto X Pure...Great processing power and speed, cool features, and a nice variety of color choices if you ordered on-site through the Moto Maker...The Z/Z2 (Force, at least) is strictly for staunch ("Hey, there's an app for that!") techies who have long since ditched their laptops and desktops in favor of Android-based tablets, handsets, and a backpack full of related gizmos (and mods) to go with them!

If you don't think a phone should have extra accessories, then this phone isn't for you. Seriously, if you're dead set against mods, don't get this phone. Most mods have at least 1,000 mAh built in, thus giving you at least 3720 mAh with a mod attached. I think making the phone more comfortable with a mod attached is the right choice. Again, if you want a phone that stands on its own, get a Galaxy S8.

Idc what people say about this phone it's better than the s8+ I have had both the Samsung just lags way too much and force closes apps . And has to many unnecessary things like. The Moto is faster and just a better phone. My Samsung was just to slow and did not enjoy it at all and that fingerprint sensor just killied the whole phone for me. The only place it's wins us that it has a headphone jack. Other than that I will pick the Moto over the Samsung. Good job motoral 🎉

I'd say go for either last years Moto Z Force or this years Moto Z2 Play. Moto Z Force you get to stick with flagship specs for a far cheaper price without sacrificing the shatterproof screen. Or you can go for the Moto Z2 Play which has excellent performance, although it has a mid range 626 Snapdragon processor its optimization is excellent to where it feels although you have a 800 series Snapdragon processor its a lot like the OnePlus 5 where although it is a mid range but has flagship performance bad thing is you sacrifice the shatterproof screen but hey screen protectors are on the market plus you do get a headphone jack. But I'm not saying the Moto Z2 Force is a bad phone no its a great phone certainly not the best but its a great phone with a excellent screen, a premium looking and feeling design, shatterproof display, good battery life, Moto mod compatible (doesn't really matter for me), and has up to 2TB extended storage the Moto Z2 force is a flagship that people would buy because 1). their sick and tired of Samsungs, and Apple's dominance in the mobile phone industry and doesn't want to be like everyone else. or 2). they are a huge fan of Motorola branding as a whole. In general its a great phone but most phones nowadays are amazing in their own ways.

It's an updated version of the Moto Z, not the Moto Z Force. They should've called it the Moto Z2. if they did that then people would compare it with the first gen Moto Z and not the Z Force.

Why did motorola decide to screw the consumers like this. I almost feel like they don't understand why people liked their phones in the first place. It is frankly laughable that their budget model this year has a headphone jack but their flagship had the "courage" to exclude it. I want a phone with a big battery and a headphone jack. PLZ motorola plz.

Verizon flexible glass screen protector.... PROBLEM SOLVED... Why would anyone not put a screen protector on this phone but any of their phones even if it has the strongest gorilla glass? User error for not putting a screen protector on. This is the best screen protector for it and I paid only $5.99 on ebay for it. This was the screen protector that Verizon used to charge $25 for it but it can be found much cheaper on ebay. It is a mixture of glass & plastic, is crystal clear, has 9H hardness, FLEXIBLE unlike regular tempered glass, full coverage, doesn't show smudges & grease and adheres very well where other don't. If I had to pick a con, the regular tempered glass has a little bit more slippery surface so thumb slides easier. Also this reviewer is absolutely missing the point of shattershield. Shattershield is flexible and can take a ton of torture & abuse and the screen will still work perfectly fine. Gorilla glass is more scratch resistant and it is strong but it can crack and be broken MUCH EASIER than Shattershield. The shattered huge spider web crack on gorilla glass makes the phone unusable while the shattershield make have a nick in the screen and be still be usable. This is why a good screen protector (protect from scratches) + shattershield (extremely durable screen) is much better than a screen protector + gorilla glass. A good hit can crack both the screen protector AND GORILLA GLASS. Far less likely with the shattershield.
