People talk about "dropping your phone *a lot* ", but really it takes one single drop over the course of 2 years and you're out $200 for a new screen. I am super careful with my phones but accidents still happen. For me, having a phone that is a potential random $200 liability is unacceptable. Shatterproof is the way to go.

I read somewhere that Lenovo has a 5yr warranty on their shatter shield screens, not sure though. If it scratches easy get a $2 screen protector since you don't need the expensive ones with the shatter shield. I'd give my firstborn for the Z2 force!

Just shattered my Moto Z Play order the Moto Z2 Play today. The phone was so amazing can't wait for my new baby. I order the Hasblad Mod and Wireless Charging Back. Matthew Valentin I did the same thing.. except I jumped in a pool with my z play, which I loved, and it happened to be the day the z² play came out.. I personally was a little disappointed with the z².. what did you think? The thing I really miss with the z play was the battery.. z² is faster and videos are better but I really enjoyed only having to charge my phone every other day.. not to mention the camera mod was a bit of a flop in my opinion but the jbl 2 and the projector are great!

I recently traded my Z2 Play for a Z2 Force. The Force is worth the extra $15-20/month. It didn't take long for my Play to start sagging beneath the weight of software that is unforgiving to a weak processor. It would take a long, long time to do even the simplest things like loading the keyboard, registering a keypress, or reacting to the home button. Most of the time, the doze notifications wouldn't react to a wave or even a tap or shake. Download speed over my home wifi topped out at about 20 mbps. The Force, on the other hand, has never hesitated to react to anything I do. Doze works as it should, apps load and respond with virtually no delay, and the camera loads incredibly fast. Download speed at home with the Force is consistently about 130 mbps. Now, it doesn't have an earphone jack, but it comes with an adapter for the charging port. It's not ideal, but the digital connection seems to agree better with Google Play Music, because the equalizer works with the Force and that makes music sound a whole lot better. I was reluctant to give up the headphone jack, but I'm not really giving it up, just giving up the ability to charge while using it, which I've never done and which can be accomplished with a MotoMod battery pack. On top of that, the Force now has Oreo, which brings several useful improvements such as a picture-in-picture mode to keep apps like Navigation on screen in case of a call or other need. Oreo also allows customization of the quick settings in the notification panel and finally restores the screen rotation toggle that the Play was lamentably missing. It seems to be exactly the same size as the Play, though the screen is positioned a little higher, presumably because of the different SoC. Speaking of the screen, the higher resolution, which I usually view as excessive on a screen so small, has no discernible effect on performance and is noticeably clearer. I am, however, not excited about the plastic display. I've never broken a phone screen, so the shatterproof quality likely will not matter to me, but the fact that it is more prone to scratches than glass means I've got to use a screen protector for the first time ever. Ah, well. I'm glad I switched and hope this is helpful to someone on the fence.

Motorola should really simplify their phone brands. There's a reason iPhones sell so well even though they are never the most hi tech. They are simple and people can understand them. Why have a moto e line, g line, x line, and z line and then add play, force, droid, and plus to everything. All this does is hurt potential new customers because no one knows which phone will have the best updates and phone accessories to but with them. They should have one Moto E phone, one moto g phone, and one moto z phone and just scrap everything else by 2018. Customers would be way more loyal.

I got the Z2 force for the $300 free moto mod projector. For me here in PR the Play is $499 with the JBL moto mod so not so worth it. But is still a great buy! both of them. Another thing that surprise me is the battery life on the moto z2 force, the first day i got almost 6hrs and that was playing heartstone and normal usage. very impressive. Now im testing the e4 plus and thats a beast in battery!

I got the Z2 Force through a deal at Best Buy for the same price of the play. Specs are way better on the Force, plus with it's polymore screen won't break. It will scratch so I put a screen protector on it . The Force also comes with a USB C to 3.5mm headset adapter. As for the battery, the Force doesn't need the larger battery. The Snapdragon 835 CPU is super power efficent. Way better than the Snapdragon 626 in the Play. Also, the Force has more and faster RAM. Even if you get the 4gb model of the Play, it used LPDDR3, while the Force uses the LPDDR4. In short, the Z2 Force is a much better phone, but you will need a screen protector for scratches. I got a 3 pack of tempered glass screen protectors

The battery was AWESOME! That is, until the Android 8 update. Now it sucks. I am sure they will fix it, but if you get one, I would hold off on the Android 8 update for now and stick with the AWESOME battery life that I used to have.

Who wants to use a headphone dungle, and no fm radio because for some like my self is important, as fare as the screen goes a case is recommended, and aren't that bad for the price if you buy it on line, plus you save more money overall on the phone. If Motorola comes out with a Z4 force later this year with a headphone jack, a bigger battery regardless of the moto mods plus fm radio inlculed, is no brainier IMO. As for right now I'm using Samsung S10 plus, and I am using my z2 play for back up.

There is one thing that's a deal breaker for the play for me. The force has MUCH better comparability with different SIM's. The play does not have that. I likely going to be doing a lot of travel in the next several years, so I need that compatibility.

The z2 force is now only $400 for the ATT version and $500 for the Verizon model. The z2 play is 450 for the unlocked version and 400 for Verizon's. They cost essentially the same now on the manufacturer's website! The z2 force is worth it for the 4-year screen crack warranty.

The thing I like about the Play is the camera-16mp. I have the Pure, about a year now and yeah the camera experience isn't all that compared to my old Note 3 but I like having 21mp. I know, I know mp's aren't all that and a bag of chips but compared to my wife and daughters iPhone 7's I get a hell of a lot more detail. Just saying, works for me. The processor upgrade over the Pure would be great!

Not defending Moto but the sd835 is great at battery efficiency so the smaller battery isn't a huge deal you can get a full day out of it. However putting a bigger battery wouldn't hurt. I bought one from Verizon on sale for 550 I feel it was worth it.

Get tempered glass. Three for less than $10 at Amazon. You cannot tell that it's not the original glass. I usually forget that I have the tempered glass. Dropped my phone and it was all shattered. I took off the tempered glass and the original screen was perfectly fine. Immediately put on anothered tempered glass.

kyle dabney No,, I don't think u can put the kind of speakers or camera setup as the mods give,,but I don't expect my cellphone to be a 500 dollar camera- audio center,,,but say razor, axon 7, etc do pack a pretty good set of front facing stereo speakers, that sound great for watching videos,,, playing games,or listening to music, without having to carry a brief case for mods. As for a projector,,,come on,,,have u seen the quality? Nothing to write home about. I'm really just diggin a nice set of front facing stereo speakers, built in,,not carry around,,,a decent camera,,not planning on a career in phone photography or movie projection. How many professional photographers work from their smart phones anyway? Bottom line,,, I have nothing against the z model Moto s,,,l just wish they hadn't tbrown out the Moto x line for a dumbed down z .
