Well, as i new rider, what i realised, that you actualy cant brake [like emrgency braking] while mid corner, but still you can slow down, or kind of fast slow down, which is still slower then a car who can slam the brake with abs mid corner. Also thing that is hard is when you stop your bike mid corner it cant be leaned because its gooing to fall, and if you make it streight you will start gooing in direction off track. I guess you can practice this to make it all right, but it is still a hard and risky manuver. So what you can do is to predict and avoid situations that may put you in that kind of situation.

Not really, that video was specifically about impact protectors. Data shows they're relatively ineffective at doing what they say on the tin... protecting from impacts. They offer abrasion resistance, but so do your outer layers. To the same or higher standard. Ryan was making the point that they should be held to a higher standard, there exists gear that DOES offer decent protection, but it's far from the norm. Disappointed to see the jab in this video.

3:40 I currently reside in the Netherlands. During the closed course part of the exam there is an "emergency braking" exercise. The goal is to drive 50 until the cones and then to brake as hard as possible. The track distance for the breaking is 17 meters, but that does not mean that you're allowed to use all of it. In my experience, Honda CBF600 breaks (with ABS engagement) easily within 6-8 meters. Anyone's telling that bike sliding on asphalt is safer or stops faster than just powerful breaking has clearly never tried to brake...

I believe that a level of fear comes with learning to ride or drive the first few times. It’s like the first time our parents or whoever first took off the training wheels of our bicycles when we were kids and tried to get us to ride on our own. We were shaky at the beginning but once the fear began to dissipate and we learned to balance and control, we gained confidence, and with “practice” and guidance (teaching), we got better. As adults we have learned that the only thing to fear is fear itself. Constant learning and practicing (the right way of course) will help to mitigate the fear in my opinion. This video is spot on as it pertains to the many myths and misinformation that are circulating about motorcycling. Awesome! 👏 😎🇺🇸✌️👍

I almost always use both brakes including in corners. The only time I don't use both brakes is in the last few feet of a stop or in a tight, slow turn. I will say that from my perspective braking on a motorcycle is much better than cars when you take into account the reaction time of the drivers. I am fully capable in a normal stop of stopping much faster than the car behind me because it takes them a few moments to realize that I am going to stop. I always apply my brake lights, long before I apply any real force to the brakes so that they know that I am about to stop or they will likely run over me. This is less physics and more psychology.

12:55 I think the myth of needing a powerful bike for "safety reasons" probably goes back to when small capacity bikes really did have trouble keeping up with the flow of traffic. When I learned to ride in Australia, we were limited to 250cc - and back then, a 250 4-stroke could just about manage 60-65 mph (100 to 105-ish km/h) on flat ground with no headwind and held at WOT for about 5 minutes. They really were dangerously underpowered in traffic. Of course, one could get a 2-stroke 250, but their peaky power bands in the day meant they weren't suited for a true beginner. These days, a bike that small doesn't have any particular trouble keeping up, but I can recall holding the throttle wide open for minutes at a time while lying down across the tank of a Honda CB250 Twin...and still had cars and trucks almost nudging my rear wheel in their impatence to get past.

Ride it like a surf board! I could just see the squids trying this out. Thanks for explaining the contact patch factor most people think I don't know what I'm talking about when I say a car will corner and brakes way faster and easier than any bike. You may be saying they're about equal but it does come down to braking ability of the rider unlike a car where you just have to mash the pedal and possibly brace for impact, not "lay er down!"
@233kosta
@233kosta 4 сағат бұрын
Breaking traction does not necessarily result in a crash. Especiqlly when the bike is upright (momentum and all, see Newton's first). I'm talking about locking up wheels in particular. Everyone ought to understand how traction works on their tyres. Once you have your basic skills down, practice locking up whilst upright. And practice recovering the locked wheel (letting go as soon as you feel the slide). If you're scared of the front brake still, start with the rear. See what the bike does, see what it feels like as the wheel starts letting go. These are markers that give you early warning, which helps you recover them before they even happen.

The last but one has some truth in it. In non developed countries,motorcycles are much more common then they are in the Global North. Yet, the majority of people ride 150-160 cc. A motorcycle about 25 hp is more than adequate for normal traffic conditions. Still, there are those mad truck drivers riding their Volvos, Mercedes and Scanias at 150-160 kph totally breakless. They don't seem to mind running over cars, let alone bikes. In those cases, a 400cc is useful for pulling to the opposite roadside as soon as you notice a truck at the mirror. Of course, theres a huge difference between 30 hp and 100+ hp, but I thought it would be useful to point this reality.
@iridium771
@iridium771 17 минут бұрын
Definitely, the main place this comes from is the USA, where some roads have a speed limit of 85 mph (137 kph) and most people act like it's a minimum rather than a maximum. In those cases it's practical to have a motorbike that can go those speeds without straining itself too much, as most people aren't willing to keep full throttle for half an hour on their bike.

The second myth is actually correct. Motorcycles are worse at braking than cars, without accounting for the driver. Here are a few 60-0 mph braking tests, taken from Cycleworld RSV4: 130.6 feet S1000RR: 127.7 feet Panigale V4 SP2: 128.7 feet Now for a few large cars: F150: 129 feet (Motortrend) Odyssey: 112 feet (Motorweek) Camry: 118 feet (Motortrend) The best high performance motorcycles with professional riders are about as amazing as braking as the best selling pickup truck in the USA with a soccer mom stomping on the brake pedal. Any smaller/lighter car blows away every motorcycle on the market. The problem isn't the contact patch, it's flipping the bike over. This is why cars can accelerate muuuuuch faster than motorcycles too.

I have to disagree on the explanation on contact patch. You didn't consider F_max, which is the point at which tires work before the ABS kicks in. All things equal, bigger contact patch does implicate in higher F_max and more braking power. The difference is in the mass; given that F=ma, you can have a higher deceleration rate on a smaller F if the mass is smaller as well. Tire width will usually be designed to about match brake capabilities, and brakes will usually be designed to match engine power and vehicle mass.

The first braking thing is wrong/wrongly explained. If we compare two vehicles of the same class, the car will brake better. What I mean by that, is to compare a very sporty 1000cc supersport to a very sport car like a porsche gt3 or something like that. Then the car will brake better. Its also wrong to say, that a bigger contact patch always means less "grip per dot", if we compare a car to a bike. A car can weight over 3 tons while a bike could weight 100kg. At some point its not true anymore. The statement is true, if the vehicles weight the same, but in the video it says that the left is a car and the right is a bike, which means a biiiig weight difference
