@@merlinthegray It could somehow fold the wings for road traffic. I would say that LANDING on two wheels could present problems, so it should have some unfolding "side-wheels" when in airplane configuration. I crack my head for years with this one, I believe it is doable.

Really? He didn't even lift off when going fast so that wing has terrible lift properties. It only went airborne when its pitch changed upword which means the angle of attack of that wing must have been trimmed really downwards. It would've been a terrible airplane and barely or not be able to fly if you'd added a prop.

He wad being towed by a helicopter and got into the rotor wash. Keep in mind this is in the very beginning of the evolution of the hanglider! Those early gliders with no reflex in the trading edge killed a many pilot back in the 1970's

What Bob Wills did with a hang glider was amazing. --- He taught me to fly in 1972 in Hawaii and I became his first Wills Wing dealer in Hawaii when he started his own business.

I was at a gathering in Florida celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Wills Wing, was standing on a chow line and asked the fellow next to me his name - He said, " It's on your shirt" I was wearing a Wills Wing shirt. No you can't, the propeller would amount to over 50 times the weight of the wing. It would be too fuckin heavy. Not to mention the entire framework would need to be made way more sturdier to support an engine and by that point you made something completely different which most people call....wait for it....a plane.

A carbon fiber prop for a paramotor is 4-8 pounds... what kind of propeller do you think we are talking about here? One for a cruise ship? It may not sustain flight but it would get him more range for sure.

The same Bob Wills. I has an SST100B as well. Also got to fly the black Swallowtail used in the film "Sky Riders" with James Coburn. It ended up at a hang gliding school in the UK Peak District where I did some teaching back in 1977.

Bobby Wills was your uncle?? Okay, that's just beyond cool. I read the family biography, 'Higher Than Eagles,' written by his mom (and I assume your Great Aunt. One of the most thrilling, inspiring and heartbreaking biographies I've ever read. Hats off to such a great legacy.

Thats awesome but i wanna make a suit like a kite which i can use to glide to the floor without a parachute, sorta like a squirrel suit only you fall alot slower and can do it off a small hill rather than a big cliff... main reason is, i want to glide but im fucking terrified of hieghts..

saw something i want now :D... its a glider that you foot launch... but its got an enclosed canopy/ cockpit thing so may want to get saving up for it lol.. however got things land based that i want to build for now. things like a custom built tracked vehicle, for snow... this is because gritting machines dont come up my road and theres often a massive patch of black ice all over the road where i live, so i'd build a tracked vehicle which moves fairly slow but has a lot of torque in it so that i can shift the ice...

Bob Wills was adventurous man, but he was not a "crazy fuck". Bob and his brother Chris, were instrumental in the development in the sport of Hang Gliding, Chris won the first U.S. championship in 1973, and Bob won in 1974. My husband was a personal friend of Bob Wills and flew with him and a group of fliers they affectionately christened "The Wingnuts".....this was because they were all crazy about flying and not because it was a crazy thing to do.
