Steve Wise had a training video back in the 80’s. On that video he said shift down without pulling in the clutch coming into the corners and don’t touch the clutch until exiting the corner if you need it.

@@riders.oregon4474 that still applies today. All the clutch does, if you hit it anywhere before apex, is stall out the power. It should only really be used for getting the rpm up on corner exit

Terry from Christchurch New Zealand love ua work young man, I practiced the no clutch moto and after a couple of laps found it also forced me to roll the throttle on against my breaking on entering brakeing bumps. Most noticeable on steep downhill entry. Before I would mistime my clutch to early and catch the last brakeing bump with my back wheel off the brake clutch in, kicking the rare up unsettling the front for the rut. Thanks for the insight to try new things as it gets me thinking about how the affect of suttle changes not what groceries I'm too pick up on my way home lol.

That’s awesome, crazy thing is, there are a wide variety of people that can benefit from doing no clutch drills, even pros! I’m glad you got something out of it. I found myself doing the same thing through some braking bumps on a high speed corner entrance at a race yesterday.

You got me at no arm pump. Will try tomorrow.
@180mxtraining73 ай бұрын
It helps, a lot of times the arm pump comes from the over braking, over accelerating and being stop and go everywhere. If you let that clutch go, you have to keep smooth solid momentum around the whole track.

@@180mxtraining7 Makes sense. I’m definitely not a clutch abuser but I am from 2 stroke days and am definitely a clutch user. Arm pump is my Achilles heel. So, interested to try it.

@@amoore2165 same here, going from a life of two strokes to a four stroke was a struggle.

Back in the day we used to fan the clutch on the way out on 2 strokes. With so much torque on the 4 stroke how/why are riders abusing clutch these days?
@180mxtraining77 ай бұрын
Because they grew up on two strokes 😜 at least that’s my problem with the clutch.
@JimG19647 ай бұрын
@@180mxtraining7 I'm still trying to deal with how much throttle control is needed with these 4 strokes lol. I used to just roll in on a 2 stroke and fan the clutch on the way out so big adjustment. Fun but your throttle control has to be on point. great videos and learning a lot!
