My 1978 Yamaha YZ80 I had when I was a kid was yellow and black from the factory. They went to the white and red in 1985. In 1991 they went to white and pink. Then white and purple. I believe the current blue/black/white came out in 1996 or 1997.

@@codyi7102 If you want the full story, look up "Vital MX Terry Varner", but basically people would send their stuff (cylinders, heads, cases) to get work done to them and he would take them money and not do any work or send them back. There are some people on that thread that haven't seen their items in years.

@@codyi7102 Listen n learn son...They didnt do dick for Moto. They simply took over AFTER it became huge. The Pros, amateurs, riding coaches and manufacturers in the 70s and 80s are who made MX what it is today NOT some energy drink. No hate here just reality.
