@@gman3725 indeed. Two very different formats and the 500s where incredibly difficult to ride at the limit compared to the computer controlled motogp bikes, not that I'm criticising the riders of today but a rider can come from Moto3 to MotoGP and within two seasons they can get a top 6th result.. That would never have happened to a 125 rider going to 500GP.. Bigger balls required to be a 500GP winner than motogp plus Id rather be called a 500gp legend than a MotoGP one.. Great to see footage of Assen from the early 90's. I live 45 minutes from Assen and in the late 80's and early 90's I drove there frequentely. Those days the track was public road when there were no races. In 1992 they closed it for traffic because too many accidents happen during these illegal track days.

nothing in comparison to motoGP bikes. properly smoked from Smoke City. FYI a 500cc gets out of breath very easy. it pounds your ass until 250kmh. after that, it's like the bike struggles to speed up. very slow to go to 300kmh. unlike a MotoGP 4T which accelerates constently up to the rev limiter. with almost 300hp now and around 230hp back in 2002. which is about 20hp more than a 500 and doesn't get out of breath. better engine ridability too. rpm range is way bigger on a 4T. more exploitable by the rider. faster and less dangerous. this the right evolution. 2T have shit lifetime too. easy to seize up. yes they were beautiful manly bikes but way too dangerous and stupid thinking about it now.

Most, if not all, new circuits were designed by the same guy, Hermann Tilke, whose a car racer. When Mick Doohan first rode at Sepang, he complained that, "Whoever designed this place has no idea about motorcycle racing." The new tracks are designed to accommodate the abomination shamelessly called "Grand Prix" -- Formula 1, like what you mentioned.

Scary and short gravel traps and exposed solid track walls. Safety hadn't matured yet, made racing more on the edge and let's face it, the crowd eats that up. I'm glad tracks are a lot more safe these days, crashing is part of racing, but surviving to race another day should be as well.
