But do we look back fondly on Rossi punting Gibernau at Jerez in 2005? Most people this day and age seem to agree it was a stupid maneuver. Same with, say, half of Marc Marquez' 2015 season or his own punt of Jorge Lorenzo at Jerez in 2013. Every racer eventually suffers a lapse of optimism over judgement, but that still doesn't make the moves they tried "good racing".

1:30 the overhead clearly shows that Enea was out of control with that pass and if Jorge hadn't swerved out of the way, Enea would have crashed into Jorge; the stewards are a disgrace for not investigating this, as they knew that the evidence would mean they would have to penalise Enea, which they didn't want to do in Italy..

I'm surprised they didn't put Enea a position back because when he made the hard move, he also didn't manage to keep it on track himself. Honestly though they would have switched the positions again. For the love of god folks, the blue paint is not monitored by the stewards for track limits, only the green is. Besides, Enea made the corner, the only reason he went off the curb was because he turned around to check where Martin was. This is the last lap of his home Grand Prix, any true racer would have gone for it. Martin would have too. Name any of the greats of this sport(or any other) and I can bet they would have had a move like this in their career. The beast is ruthless.

If Bastianini made it to the apex, or at least went along the racing line, it won't be a problem. But if you pause the video when they are about to make contact with each other, Bastianini actually was going wide and Martin was heading to the apex. I don't think that was intentional, but it certainly wasn't a good way to overtake. Prop to Martin though for staying on the bike and keeping the valuable points for P2.

The blue paint means there's no time gained for stepping on that part of the track. Only on the green do you gain advantage. However, Bastianini has pushed him out of the track, and it is debatable whether he should have been given a 5 seconds penalization for it. Two things stand in the way of such penalization: First, the stewards have frequently decided not to penalize other drivers for such "competitive" overtaking, Marc Márquez comes to mind. Second, even if Enea had been penalized 5 seconds for his aggressive overtaking, Jorge came over the line +5.002 seconds after, thus, such penalty would have only administrative consequences. Personally, he should have been given the penalty, administrative character notwithstanding.
