We are running the Stoptech ST40 calipers on our 2014 WRX race car, and they work very well. We had paired them with the Subaru 2-Pot calipers in the rear initially, but we discovered that we were having some issues with too much front brake bias. This was more evident to us because we weren't using ABS at the time. We have since added the rear Brembo calipers off an STI, and not only is the bias improved, but the stopping power is amazing. We are running pretty aggressive Hawk pads, and so car the Stoptech calipers are holding up great! It is good to see that you are giving this Bugeye some love. Keep up the good work, and the great content!

i have just ordered the st40 kit for my 2013 wrx. i havent installed yet, but reading your comment i wonder if ill experience extreme bias issues. the kit says its 'engineered to work with the oem rear brakes'. is that just fluff? thanks!

Sorry its off topic, but at 6:42 What makes this whining noise when he is accelerating?.. Sounds like he has a sequential gearbox, but he doesnt.. Can i have someone explaining it? It sounds really cool

I think it is, lighter more swept area, more pad volume and more thermal mass

STI Calipers are budget brakes, and the mounting bolt threadholes are known to strip the threads. As the caliper needs to be removed for a pad change this will sooner or later happen, and then a helicoil needs to be fitted. Also, the Stoptech caliper uses a very common pad shape, so many brands/types of pad are available.

This might sound like a dumb question but when I do a brake upgrade how do I determine my pad size? Do I have to buy a pad set from the brand I choose to go with for the calipers?

Yes but most racing brakes use standard pad sizes so pads are usually from many sources.

Oh, and also people always talk about drilled and slotted rotors being a myth, did you just confirm that slitted rotors actually have function? lol

They function but we prefer slotted as drilled tend to crack.
