Oh Kris , Mate that’s sucks , so sorry to hear that . I hope you get so positive results Down the track. On a side note enjoyed the blast from the past location you just road past the Linda street , lived there for a bit. Plus at the end there my old high school .

Cool! Was heading up towards Cowan, Ol-Pac way. It'll work out in the end, always something to learn and just glad I had insurance.

Sucks to hear your bikes got stolen Kris, hopefully all the insurance stuff is sorted soon and you can get yourself another new wr250r. If you can't find another new wr250r at a dealer send me a message because i just bought one of the last 2020 model wr250r's in Victoria and I'm having 2nd thoughts about holding onto it only because i suffer from chronic lower back pain. I'm happy to sell it to someone who would put it to good use.

Thanks and will do. I'm kind of hoping insurance will sort it, as if they do my current premium will continue onto the new bike which saves me a decent amount of cash (hate to think what next year's premium will be). But if they can't get a replacement I'll definitely let you know, as I'd really want as new as I can get my hands on!

Kris, have a look at one of those gps trackers. A bit of coin, I suppose, around $250 plus the sim card, but it will notify you when it's on the move and you can cut off the engine if it's being ridden at the time. I've dug a couple of holes, you know, just in case you find who you're looking for... ;-)

Haha, good to know! Definitely on my list now. Will have to look into the engine cut-off bit as well, that would be ideal.

@@MotoJournoKris I had my dirt bike stolen from the back of my truck. I reported it, talked to police (they told me they don't hold out much hope of finding it (thanks guys). I phoned the impound lot every two days asking if my bike came in. I finally got a co-worker's cop husband to look (they don't allow people to go in and look). Turns out it had been there for three months and was just about going to auction, all the time telling me it hadn't shown up. It had been holed up in a teenager's parents garage (along with a mountain of other stolen goods) before the cops found it and tore the crap out of the seat with their tow truck's strap. I felt equally victimized by the system as I was by the thief. I feel for you, Kris It's a terrible feeling. I once saw a comic in a motorcycle magazine that showed two big choppers lined up at the starting line at a drag strip. Behind each of the two bikes was someone bound and tied behind the bikes. The Caption read "drag race for bike thiefs"

That's a major bummer. But it's good that it's only the bike and not yourself involved. I hope they catch the culprits and that your insurance responds quickly. I hear you about needing to keep on all those insurance changes. So easy to let things like that slide (like if your kid gets his P plates, and dings the car but you've forgotten to add him as a listed driver, then all the excesses are doubled). But all we can do is treat it as an expensive lesson and try learn. And not fall into similar mistakes. Those photos showed the bike was coming along nicely too.
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, have to learn from our mistakes and we'll be better in future, as a rider and in general. Definitely lucky no one was hurt (wouldn't lose any sleep if the thieves hurt themselves of course), bikes are replaceable, people aren't!

Wow that sucks! I'm sorry it happened to you, and I'm really glad you're okay. In Brazil there's a lot of bike robberies, sadly, it's dangerous to the point you can get shot by thieves just because you're riding your bike. 💔

Thanks! That does really put it in perspective, despite the disappointment, I'm still pretty lucky. Much more horrible to think someone would kill or attack you to take your bike. Stay safe out there!

I’m so paranoid after getting my locked bike stolen from a car park that I now have around 10 locks/chains on each bike in my locked garage. It takes me forever to get my bikes out but I don’t care. Whenever I see a decent lock on gumtree I go and buy another one. I also have an old phone with a SIM under the seat, attached to a battery pack that’s always charged as I leave the bike on a battery tender and I can use find my iPhone to check on it.

Gutted for you, hope they catch these low life's, respect from Cumbria England. A friend of my wife's had four bike's in his garage, the thieves couldn't get in because he'd done such a good job on security, so they torched the lot. Two of these bikes were also high-end classics.
@MotoJournoKris

Damn that's pathetic, they destroyed pieces of history and his newer bikes because they couldn't steal them. Doesn't do much for our faith in humanity, hard to imagine someone who would stoop that low.

I'm so sorry. My Husky 701 SM was stolen from my work parking lot last week. The cops found it and it's TRASHED. So sad. Have you figured out better solutions for safety? I had a brake disk lock on and am thinking to get one with an alarm and a lojack sort of GPS tracker. Not sure what else to do. :(
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 3 жыл бұрын
That sucks, especially just joyriding it and trashing the bike, it's not even like they did it for the money, they just did it to F* someone else over majorly... hard to understand that mentality really. Is it fixable, or insured? I definitely think the disc lock or alarmed disc lock is worth a try especially in public places as it increases the visibility of any theft, and the gps trackers with fencing seem a good idea, as they can notify you when it's moved and possibly track it. You'd hope the police would chase that down as a priority. I also think a really highly rated chain and lock, to something solid that it can't be lifted over is probably an idea too, or multiple chains and locks, although that's more difficult parking at work, as they just weigh so much. Most of what I've seen is just make it as absolutely difficult as possible so they move on to an easier target, as most things can be overcome if they really want the bike. Doesn't add much confidence of course and I still wake up hearing stuff at night and go check the garage worrying someone is having another go... But I've got a hell of a lot more security on the bike now. Also parking anywhere regularly obviously makes it easier for the bike to be scoped out to figure out how to overcome anything, but again that's pretty hard to prevent. Trying to get more competitive quotes for the insurance this year was also a nightmare after the claims... so there's a lot of flow on effects.

Man that’s sad news 🙁 ( nothing worse than a thief) , I also worry about my bike getting stolen because how light the bike is, I live in Florida and been considering putting a tracking device on my bike somewhere, like inside the frame or something like that, ill do some research and let ya know, i also keep insurance on all my bikes 👍 Ps. keep an eye out for locals posting parts for sale online, thats one way to catch them. Meanwhile Good luck 👍 I hope they get caught.

I know what you mean, the lighter the bike, the easier it is for them! Interested to hear how you go, definitely something I'm looking at now. I've been checking all the local classified hoping to spot anything, no luck so far, but still looking!

A lot of dirt bike thefts here in Western Massachusetts, you see them do wheelies on those bikes in the cities.

The police reckoned it's the worst type of bike for theft when they dropped by to see if they could find any evidence they could use to track them.

Camera the area, one that has notifications and get some kind of audible alarm, even a alarmed pad lock. This blows😠
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 4 жыл бұрын
That's the plan! Hopefully an alarmed disc lock or padlock on each bike will make it very hard to do silently, and some cameras to discourage anyone thinking of giving it a try.
