Great video thank you! As an owner of a manual GT4 I can recognize there are benefits to the lightning fast shifts of a pdk ( pdk still has long ratios) the GT4 still represents the undiluted driving machine with timeless ingredients that should not be changed. 1. Naturally aspirated flat 6 (with a battery for starting it only)... 2.Mid mounted position...3. Lightweight focused build Inc GT suspension and brakes....4. Manual transmission. One day we'll pray any car company would make something similar. #notbiased:)

I have a 987.2S in manual, and I couldn't agree more. I wish I had PDK for performance, sometimes it's just better to be assisted with gearing when you approach redline and everything SCREAMS, being under many different forces and lateral accelerations, many times I either shift too early and sometimes bump into the rev-limiter, and had a scary missed shift or two! This is the same reason why manual is a thing of beauty - there is no *ucking around, but when you get it right it's like a union of time and space, absolutely thrilling and rewarding in a way that no PDK can give you.
@leeraymer1663 жыл бұрын
A GT4 with a PDK, this is the only application that I would go for this transmission over the manual because of the long gearing in the 718. As always, Kumo always books the best colors for you to review. Gentian Blue Metallic is one of the best looking blues out there.

I have for a month now (4000km) - 718 Spyder (so same as GT4 but withouth the roof) in manual (I could order pdk, but driving the stick has an oldschool charm). Before I bought it, I watched every video there is about it, and most said - the problem is long gearing. I really don't see it as a problem. The problem is exhaust of the car. If you had a good sound from 3 to 6k rpm and not from 5 to 8k rpm, you wouldn't have to rev it to 8k rpm in normal driving conditions (and that's why so many people changes exhaust after they receive the car). And in the case you are driving fast (let say on a track) that long second and third gear is all that you need, and that's good, less shifts makes you faster on the road. If not, Porsche next time should make manual transmission with third gear ending at 100km/h (62mph) - then everyone can make lot of changes and rev it in the speed limit all day, what a fun ;)

I think the problem with the manual is the gearing. Other reviewers have talked about the stupid talk gearing in the MT versions, so it’ll be interesting to see if it plays out like you say. The GT3 manual has supposedly excellent gearing because it’s a 911, which is why the MT is preferred in that application.
@randomhawks32323 жыл бұрын
GT3 or any GT car has tall gearing; you are pushing 70mph in 2nd gear across the suite... might be 5-7mph less. Not sure why the GT4/Spyder get all the focus on this. GT cars are built for the track, but being road legal presents the issue...but ask most owners and its a non issue.

The PDK dual clutch system is not like any other Auto Transmission out there. The way the sport mode and Super Sport activate the higher RPM shifting points it shifts like you were driving the stick. But those cars are perfect for stick shifting. The PDK is the next thing to shifting and at times faster. My Porsche GTS Macan shifts like a bat out of hell in that mode and my hand is always on the auto stick lever by habit. If your in need of doing auto this is the best out there hands down. Not exactly. The .1 GT3 suffers from the issue of all engine recall. Their resale dropped hard because of it. The only reason the resale value has climbed back up in recent months is because of inventory shortage and COVID that brought the price back up to some degree. Allocation numbers for the 718 GT4/Spyder are also extremely low. It took me a long time at my dealership to get one and they are top 3 in US for sales. You'll be lucky to even find one at the moment. Talking resale when it comes to Porsche GT cars is basically splitting hairs. As long as they are Porsche NA Flat Six, a GT and well kept, the resale will be generally high. Even the older .1 Targa with the last N/A Flat Six sold for MSRP with 20k+ miles because it is what buyers prioritize. That wont' change much, especially with EV looming on the horizon.

You can’t wind out the gears on the 4.0. The base 718 is superior

I am all set with my W213 E63S and 987... not spending $120k for poor-man's 911.
@rokuthedragon56753 жыл бұрын
If you have 120k this is a much better buy than a 911, engine is in the right spot, better stats, also 4 seats? Might as well be driving a minivan
