@@davidhenriquez9562 so youd rather swap out the turbo that's already in place with a supercharger, instead of upgrading to a bigger turbo? doesn't seem too cost effective and youd probably have to do a lot of customization for the supercharger.

Hey Dave I love what you guys have created. Took the ATS V for a test drive yesterday and its one sick car. You can feel that their was a lot of time spent on designing this car as a whole. I enjoyed the ATS V so much I felt like I was in heaven, it was all put together so well. The only thing that must change and I believe I speak for everyone on this, is the Instrument Cluster needs to be shit canned. When driving the ATS V in all its glory my mind couldn't stop thinking about the dash and how horrible it looked. It just made me FEEL like I was driving a regular ATS and killed some of the joy.

I want more colors too! Especially for the neutral-exterior-color ATS-Vs, they need color accents in the interior (like the CLA45's red belts and bolsters). A fun car deserves fun colors. I have been a fan of the Art & Science approach Cadillac has been following for years. Mr. Leone's technical overview of the new CTS-V was entertaining as it was informative. Moto Man appealed to the passion of getting a true sports car out on the track. Dave followed up with a peek behind the curtain to detail the innovation and automotive expertise which is the source of all the magic. But more importantly, people who have a passion for state of art automobiles want to own a vehicle created by people who are passionate about the vehicle they make and sell. Dave you asked for what else Cadillac could do with the CTS-V so in this Caddy fan's humble opinion here is my wish list. 1. A special order option for a turbo charged V-8 putting out at least 600 HP with 585 ft-pounds torque. 2. A 7 or 8 speed dual clutch automatic with "launch control". 3. Its a long shot but a CTS-V Wagon again as a special order limited edition. 4. Upgraded two tone leather interior options . There has been at least one Cadillac in my family for over half a century. However, I strongly suggest Cadillac either severely trim down your dealer network or spin off a separate V division like AMG for Mercedes Benz, R series for Audi, or M series for BMW. Over the past year I have visited 5 Cadillac dealers and have been less than impressed with the surroundings, sales and auto car staff. It seems to me the Cadillac dealers I visited are stuck in a time warp of the 70s and 80s. Product knowledge and passion are definitely missing. The " setting" for new jewels of Cadillac; the CTS C6, ATS Coupe, and the new CTS-V must compliment not detrack.

What a fantastic video. I really hope we get to see a similar discussion on the CTS-V when it's released. Thank you so much for posting this, MotoMan! I also appreciate that everything involved is functional. I have read a lot of people making comments like "bleh, that spoiler, bleh that hood." It's functional, this isn't a Corolla with a body kit! I drove the ATS 3.6 for a week and it's a blast! I think if all the "gauge cluster sucks" haters would try the car out they'd realize it's actually pretty great. The customizable portion of the cluster is amazing - I've never seen a video where it was shown to its actual potential. I noticed he said "the tires are capable of even more...in case we decide to dial it up a little bit." with a slight nod...color me intrigued! My feedback is that Cadillac needs to push their Performance Data Recorder technology a lot better. That functionality is incredible. It's something none of the main competitors offer. It stands alone there and I haven't read any auto-journalist commenting on it beside in passing. I saw it being used in several "first drive" reviews from the Circuit of the Americas event but yet no one actually acknowledged what it was. I was also surprised Dave didn't even mention it here. Push it - it's fantastic!

Dear Dave and Moto man, I like your video so much and brought a ATS-V 2 weeks ago. I was a proud owner for 3 days and ATS-V broke down.. The trans cooler hose broke and fluid leak all over the freeway. A huge white smoke from tailpipe. I was so surprised Cadillac poor workmanship and quality control not pair with premium European cars. I owed 911, AMG & RS4 for years and never have problem within a few days. I was also disappointed that $75,000 ATS-V doesn't come with standard LED vertical light features. Those good looking vertical lights was missing on my ATS-V and gave me cheap looking yellow light. Too bad I was too excited to drive my car without paying attention those vertical light before purchase it. The black piano dashboard need to go and fingerprint everywhere. Enough bad comments but I do enjoy ATS-V. Those carbon fiber hook looks awesome and great car to drive. I hope someone read my comments and take care your Cadillac clients. The seat control display on the CUE system is not intuitive at all. The swoopy arrows that are shown give no indication of what you are going to be controlling. Cadillac could learn a bit from Audi in this respect. Yeah...I traded in a D4 Audi S8 for an ATS-V 6mt. The S8 was a beast straight line, surprisingly agile for its size, and sinfully luxurious inside. But.....boring in the end. I've owned a lot of cars, and the ATS-V is at the top of the list for fun...hands down, no question. It is a go-cart in handling and a rocket with some minor mods. Completely engaging and immersive. BMS should take note...this is how you build a drivers car!

I think Cadillac should offer the Recaro Seats in the 2016 ELR, as an option, simular to BMW'S M packaging. Let customers pay and for what they want. I personally don't need all the ATS V'S horsepower, but I want the sporty look. Also with the ELR offer 19" wheels simular to the 18" sport rims found on the regular ATS, those are way better looking than the 20" sport rims on the 2016 ELR. Also, with the new logo, there is no way it should not have the same colors of the front and rear badges, why do the wheels not show off the badge in color...like a Porsche?? These suggestions may seem small in retrospect, but trust me they will help to sell units, which is what Cadillac is trying to do.

I own a 2018 ATS with the 3.6L engine. I have two gripes so far. One is that the highly reflective CUE center NAV display is prone to fingerprints. Either redesign the face covering like many aftermarket GPS faces, which are a slightly matte finish, or sell a stick on glass protector like a smartphone. Something that is sacrificial and can be replaced. Also, put a dang gas cap back on the vehicle. Cadillac says to improve user experience owners now dont have to handle a dirty gas cap. Hellllloooo... Its not the gas cap we are concerned about, its the filthy gas pump handle touched by thousands. Without a way to lock the gas door, the tank is vulnerable to vandalism. I would love to hear a response from Cadillac if you're truly listening to owners.
@richardcoker50955 жыл бұрын
Despite them taking it from Ford, I like and appreciate the lack of a gas cap and the flap locks with the vehicle. Neither that locked flap or locked gas cap will truly stop someone from siphoning your gas. Fortunately, that is not a big problem where I park normally nor in my garage.
@steadyeddie74535 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate your unique situation on the gas cap. Unfortunately not all of us have secure parking at shopping malls, grocery stores, parks, stadium parking lots, etc. Providing a gas cap door with an interior release and/or a locking gas cap wont stop someone hell bent on siphoning my gas, but the same goes for locks on my house. If they really want in, a lock wont stop them, but I still use them. Not having them is what we call being a soft target. And no flap lock or gas cap just invites someone to dump something into the tank. People can be vindictive when they see a nice car. Plus, when I wash the car, I like to open the flap to clean the backside. Cant do that without covering the fuel fill inlet. Give me my gas cap back.
@richardcoker50955 жыл бұрын
@@steadyeddie7453 Maybe not secure at malls but siphoning gas or dumping stuff in the tank just seems unlikely and they do have to pry it open if the car is locked, though I see your point. I do go ahead wash/clean around the gas filling area as water should NOT go inside the gas tank without something opening the valve inside. You might need to dry a little bit of the area headed towards gas tank but it shouldn't get in the gas tank. Have to add, if you have thought about the Trifeca tune or equivalent? Worth it :)
@steadyeddie74535 жыл бұрын
@@richardcoker5095 With many crimes, it's always unlikely until it happens to you. And my gas door will open with just a push, whether the car is locked or not. I checked out the Trifecta Tune website and liked the software they offered to permanently turn off the AUTO STOP feature. But for $180 I'll just keep pushing the console switch. Cheers.

Since you asked I would like a little more exhaust sound, growl and pop. Also how about a dual clutch auto?

@motomantv for Dave, I'm with everyone else that the gauge cluster from the CTS-V MUST BE IN THE ATS-V! 10SPD auto from ZL1 IS A MUST! Cue is ok, I will use the control on wheel. I had a hard time with the volume. Make a knob or physical slider pls. Also cool the recaro seats also. Thx again . wagon ...pls a wagon! I'm buying a pre-owned 201x ATS-V Sedan, very soon as they stopped production of them. 😥

This video is only 4 years old and in that amount of time GM have axed the CTSV and ATSV in favor of some ugly replacement and closed down a 100 year old factory today in Oshawa Canada.

To what speed does the ATS V maintain laminar flow through the transmission oil cooler? I would think at high speeds it would begin to experience turbulence. No?

One of the major sell points for the M4 and M3 are the wider fenders they have compared to the regular 3 and 4 series. It makes them exquisite from the non M series and also adds an aggressive look to them. I wish Cadillac took that route too.

Kind of surprised the Chief Engineer of Cadillac is not more knowledgeable on turbochargers. He referred to the turbine wheel as a turbine vane. Then he said the new material was Aluminide Titanium, which is correct, but it replaced a heavy Inconel Turbine wheel, not an aluminum one like he said. Heck an aluminum turbine wheel would melt in no time!

Wow what a great in depth video.. I wish there is one for every car company. I would like to know its competitors and how well the V performs..

MotoManTV Also could you ask Dave why new cars dont have rear fog lights. Please dont tell that public dont care or want it. If you put it in there people will use it in rough weather. Just like they do for fog lights and its soooo much safer. If they are bringing european car designs in to US marker then y not the rear fog lights.

I am very interested in this as my next car purchase. Going forward into the life-cycle of the car, I would like to see the more aggressive Michellin tire compounds made available through GM.

Everything is great in general, just get rid of CUE. Can we go back to the Gen 2 UI? BTW, the other thing I am not a big fan of is going forced induction and lower displacement for the sake of going forced induction and lower displacement. Let's get one thing straight -- THE 3.6TT LF4 (or the LF3 for that matter) IS NOT MORE FUEL EFFICIENT THAN THE LT1 6.2 V8. This is not my crazy theory, it is a fact. The ATS-V gets 17 mpg (city) / 25 mpg (hwy) from the 3.6 liter force fed mill. The 2017 Camaro SS weighing about the same gets 17 mpg (city) / 28 mpg (hwy) from the LT1 6.2 V8. Both cars use the GM 8L90 8-speed automatic. Both cars weigh about 3700 lbs. Both cars make about 460 hp and about 450 lb-ft (give or take five). The LT1 V8 is the cheaper and LIGHTER engine actually thanks to the absence of the big and bulky DOHC heads. The Pushrod V8 is not low tech and it is a very mass efficient design with a very high power density (per unit weight or space occupied). You have it. The competition doesn't. Use it! The only "plus" I can see from a personal standpoint to the LF4 is that if you are willing to remap the ECU and crank up the boost and timing. You can get a "free" 60~80 hp out of it. People who are into ECU hacking will like it more than the NA V8. But, as GM, do you really want to increase the propensity for unauthorized mods which can then present warranty disputes you need to sort out? I don't think so. From a purely technical standpoint, if you are going to stick to a turbo six, the twin turbo layout is not ideal. A better (and more uniquely Cadillac) design will be to flip the heads such that the exhaust exits in the valley of the vee. These can then drive a SINGLE larger turbo instead of two small ones. The single turbo in the middle and on top of the engine can have two outlets to feed two air-to-water heat exchangers and a pair of intake manifolds on each side. This retains the minimized compressed volume for minimum pressurization lag. A single larger turbo is generally more efficient and more responsive. Larger impellers have higher efficiencies because while the geometry scales, air molecules and viscosity does not. The Reynolds number change and bigger aerodynamic structures are more efficient -- it's the same reason a 777 wing can be made more efficient than a 737 wing. Don't believe me? Go check out the compressor maps of a small turbo then a large one. The small turbos have peak efficiencies in the mid 60% range the large ones mid to high 70% range. The urban myth that two smaller turbos spool faster is complete and utter rubbish. Yes, a smaller turbo will spool faster than a larger one when fed the same exhaust flow. But, two smaller turbos being fed HALF the exhaust flow will not spool faster than a large turbo being fed the entire exhaust flow. Period. Oh, and boy there is ONE gaff. The ATS-V has Titanium-Aluminide turbine wheels in the turbos. These do not replace aluminum wheels, they replace a steel alloy turbine wheel. That is why they are lighter. Typical turbos have steel or steel-nickel alloy turbines for heat resistance and only the compressor wheel is aluminum. The specific Borg-warner KKK unit used has Titatium-ALuminide turbines which meets the heat reisistance requirement while being lighter (albiet more expensive).

I always don't get it why they don't just offer double-din. Buyers of ATS-Vs should be more than loaded to install their own aftermarket headunits.

excellent in-depth video, very informal too, got to learn more about the ATS V & I'm looking forward to see what the Mad Scientist pulled with the CTS. hhhmmm what I'd like to see in the next series of Vs, well lets see: They got the performance part covered & then some, so no need to rehash that ... Just keep the excellent work you have been doing ... (Will the CT6's AWD & All Wheel Steering make it to the next generation of V?) • I'd like to see the V (both Vs & VSports) family expand & include more cars ... an Escalade V would be incredible!!! A +550hp supercharged Escalade to take on the Range Rover & the G63 will further strengthen Cadillac's position in the segment & let people know Cadillac is serious about this. I know an Escalade V doesn't fit with the V's goal as Track Machines, but you don't have to call it a Full Blown V... Maybe VSport or Escalade Sport like the concept from SEMA a few years ago. also, a CT6 V would be awesome ... That chassis is begging for a High Performance version! • Something similar to BMW's M Performance parts or MOPAR program would be cool. • More interior colors for the Vs. that's what I can think of for now. as always, excellent video M!

I would love to know more about the internals, rods, pistons and crankshaft in the event that more power is wanted (which we all know will happen) and then sent to a tuner. Can it handle a basic GTR type of modification? Intake, injectors, ecu tune, possible flex fuel set up with duel pumps to except E85 and last but not least down pipes.
