I don't think this is uncommon. In the description they mention GPS this and GPS that but in very small print they say "(not included)". That should be bold and at the top.

I looked at the Garmin owners manual, and the picture of the GPS wire routing at the base was, uh ... not clear to say the least. Your instructions were clear, concise, and the video was done in a well lit area. THANK YOU.

Might be a stupid question. But what does hooking it to the gateway do. I just installed and have a gateway on boat. Just need an extension to reach it.

Great video! I have a question- does the pin point system need to be hooked up to a NMEA network for the anchor lock and heading lock function to work? Or will those functions work if it is Hooked up as shown in this video?

The Pinpoint GPS Upgrade Kit will add the Anchor Lock and Heading Lock feature to the motor. You can control that through the Remote and Foot Pedal. The NMEA 2000 Network and NMEA Gateway is only needed if you want to link your motor with a Lowrance Graph.

I just got my xi3 gps trolling Motor 12 v 52 lb thrust, at first install me and my wife took it out never had the gps light come on, operation of the trolling functions via regular speed and turning work flawless from the remote was very disheartened. Got home took the top panel off made sure the placement was correct, it was. Removed the bottom panel found the bottom connection was disconnected, I thought okay! Easy enough I reconnected, applied power to the trolling motor waited a couple minutes and no gps light ever illuminated, does it really take 10 minutes sometimes to pick up a gps signal or is it pretty quick? Any tips and advice, I’m a mechanic who has had many years of all sorts of electrical diagnosis, so any competent testing is not an issue getting pin readings etc. only reason I’m asking on here is I love the videos very easy and to the point the weekend motorguide technical support is closed figured if you had any input before I contact them Monday. Figured I’d ask and see in your experience if you have had other units do the same thing. Thank you!!

@Los Angeles BFS yes I did, after getting home, I popped the cover off the base of the trolling motor, and found were the GPS is at the base it was actually unplugged, I plugged it in turned the trolling motor on lowered it down in its deploy position and within about a minute from that point, the GPS light kicked on its located in the BOTTOM PANEL that's where the GPS is plugged in at the box of course is mounted in the top section but the wires run down and plug into the the base section/bottom panel I found out it needs to be in the deployed position for it to kick on the GPS when it's stowed it seems it goes into a sleep state almost same as if you don't use the remote and motor it goes to sleep to save battery and what I did while connected to the trailer powered on in the deploy position I drove it down the road and in a circle about 2 times per the calibration method and bam it kicked on I hope that helps and yours gps is just not fully connected and you gotta calibrate it while "deployed" did it all while on trailer and drove my truck in circles haha

I have an older XI 5 with GPS. Is there a way to calibrate it ? When using anchor mode it can drift off by as much as 10 yards or it is constantly jerking the bow of the boat worse than a misbehaving kid in a grocery store by his “ play no games grandma “

I assume by watching your video I can purchase the module from you and install it. Do all Xi5's come with the indicators, etc all that is missing is the module?

Is there a cable replacement for this GPS i can buy? Both my curly cables are degraded and i think the smaller one finally made my GPS not be able to get lock (unless the GPS died.. i'm not sure). I can find the larger cable replacement but not the smaller one unless its connected to a GPS unit itself.. .but i just want to replace the cables.

The main Coil Cord can be replaced. The small Coil Cord is part of the GPS Module, so you would have to replace the entire Module.

@@trollingmotorparts Thanks for the info. i was afraid of that. This is a ridiculous flaw in the design. I'll have to spend half the p rice of a new unit just to replace a bit of wire. What a joke o fa design floor MotorGuide. I'll look into modding it myself and pray its possible.

Unfortunately, Pinpoint GPS is only available on electric steer models like the Xi3, Xi5 and Tour Pro.

I'm a little confused when trying to find the right products online. I have an xi3 wireless but just want spotlock/anchor. Isn't pinpoint gps separate from spotlock? I simply just want spotlock not where it can hook to my Lowrance. Any help would be awesome, thanks!

If you’re just wanting to add spot lock to an Xi3, this is the kit you would need. Spot lock runs through the Pinpoint GPS Module. Connecting the Xi3 to a Lowrance Graph would also require NMEA 2000 and the Pinpoint Gateway.

Unfortunately, Pinpoint GPS can’t link to a Humminbird. It can only link to select Lowrance Units through NMEA 2000.
