Not over current but overload relay. Those are not same. Now coming to your questions. Suppose a motor van be loaded to maximum 80% of its rating. Now during some time it is running at 50% load. It happens often in plant. Now in that time if the voltage falls then there won't be significant overload. But under voltage... That is why separate relay is considered

Actually modern day numerical relays take current input from one core, and analyze for different application. Only differential protection is connected through ps class CT

these motors are protected as per type 2 co ordination. basically it has mccb, with on off contactor and a bimetallic thermal over load relay. mccb gives Protection against sc and e/f fault, bimetallic o/l relay gives Protection against over load. contactor is used for on off the motor... ratings of these are dependent upon the motor rating and it is available in type 2 co ordination chart. you can find it on internet. manufacturer gives the chart
