Use the Volvo/Ford engine. A version of it was used in the Laguna and Safrane, so to see one in a Pug would be novel😁 Also, the V6 PRV was a joint venture with Pug, Renault and Volvo making a Volvo engine in a 406 a tedious link in a positive manner. Plus they sound awesome and don't leak oil.

2.0 16v or 3.0 v6 406 were the "fast" ones... and I use the term "fast" loosely on the 2.0. Hammered one easy in a 205 1.9 gti. Reckon even a 1.6 gti would leave those for dead tbh 😂 Had to rub this in for the clickbait & switch thumbnail lol Good luck with it regardless 👍🏾
