In our last outing, Pete showed you how to capture a relative compression pattern on the single channel uScope. In that episode, Pete referenced some new terms; trigger setting, trigger slope, and trigger position among them. Today, Pete explains basic trigger settings to help you stabilize your capture for more detailed analysis.

It does not look like anyone noticed but it looks like you were using a snap on wave form generator. That is a great device to use when you start out using a scope. It makes it very easy to choose your wave form and setup plus reduces the frustration with new users. I have recommend them in the past and they are not that expensive..

Pete, you rock I just happen to be DEEP into a car at this time while I had nine thousand back prob pins connected (I don't think I missed a sensor). I found those functions and played with them... Thanks...

Nice demo. I think it would have been interesting to show what happens when the signal does not meet the trigger requirements, particularly using the Snap-On scope. I'm sure you already know that you cannot trigger the full capture using a Snap-On scope. It is always capturing data even if the signal does not meet the trigger. It will only appear to have stopped. You can never see what the scope is capturing when it is running. Only when stopped and zoomed out.

Is there any instances where you should use a rising trigger of falling trigger ? Nice video.
@MotorAgeMagazine
@MotorAgeMagazine 7 жыл бұрын
Good question. In most of my captures, a rising trigger is the norm. It depends on what you're trying to capture. I once had a Mercedes with a key off drain problem that I could not duplicate. I set the scope up to capture a single capture if the amp clamp detected a current loss, using the falling slope mode, and let it sit. Later, I found that the scope was displaying a pattern that I finally traced to a bad radio module. How? The radio was playing in the car but the key was safely tucked away in my toolbox! Perhaps others watching this video can offer their ideas on using triggers?
