Motorboat to Bako National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia

24 February 2017 - It was my third day in Kuching, Malaysia and I was ready to leave the city and be closer to nature! Bako National Park is located northeast of Kuching, but is easily accessible by taking a public bus to a local jetty followed by a motorboat to the actual park. Boats were leaving just after 9 am, and unfortunately as you see and hear at the end of this video, it was still low tide, so we got stuck in the mud part way to the park.
What's not shown in the video was how we eventually got to the park: we tried to wait out the low tide, but every time the driver thought there was enough water to continue on, the motor kept getting stuck in the mud . Eventually another boat came by and all the passengers switched boats to get to the park. The complication was minor, but it just gave me a chance to admire being in a boat completely surrounded by the South China Sea, seeing pristine rainforest in the distance and knowing that I'd be hiking in it soon enough :)
