Great review, pointing out the good and the bad features. Thank you. The third cabin in 50 ft requires way too many compromises. Galley aft takes too much living space, you need a bar aft not a galley. Would it be possible to have reviews that actually compare boats, emphasizing the designer choices? For example, compare this to a classic Riva 48 Superamerica... once you lose the third cabin, you get a lot more living space that can be used for parties, dancing, just breathing air, etc. that would be impossible on this boat. Too bad Riva does not make anything below 70 ft these days.
@michiganengineer86213 жыл бұрын
You were talking about the doors below deck, I think it would be a bit of a trade off. Flimsier doors and slightly thicker walls to allow pocket doors or the way Ferretti decided. TBH, I agree with you, I'd prefer pocket doors where possible. 16:44 Were my eyes deceiving me or does that fuel filter need to be changed/drained? Looked like it had a _lot_ of water in the bottom of that bowl. Not a bad "baby" yacht although there are features that could definitely be improved.

A really good review as always 👍 It’s appears to be a really well made boat but there are some design issues. Also agree with a previous post, the fly bridge sides are too low. All in all it seems this boat is more about good looks resulting in some irritating issues like the lower helm visibility, up and down floor and ceiling levels etc...

Ferretti is a brand MBY never seem to have understood. They have always been a sporty flybridge which do not break, when its a chop unlike some other mainstream brands. Also most of the inventions which we take for granted today, where actually introduced/invented by them; from the extended bathing platform, to tender garages, gyro-stabilizing, and the astern galley layout among other things. In some areas they are always better to the the competition as for example the aft deck space, which they always have more, engine room space, and easy side deck movement. There weak point has always been the galley which has never been big enough.
@darthkek19533 жыл бұрын
So what you're saying is Ferretti WERE ahead of the game some years ago?
@PowerYacht3 жыл бұрын
@@darthkek1953 Yes! 1985 Ferretti 35 Porto Rotondo first boat with tender garage, 1986 Ferretti 46/49 Altura first boat with extended bathing platform, 2004 Mitsuibish gyro stabilizing is introduced, 2005 Ferretti 630 is the first with astern galley.

@@PowerYacht The only thing worse than a stern galley is an aft galley. The galley should be down below in the bowels of the boat, out of sight lines.

Probably the worst design I have seen for a boat this length, too many compromises, every area seems cramped, the levels to gain height are unsightly and impractical, the fly bridge sides are way too low, the forward visibility from the lower helm station is terrible, very surprised to see this, but you have done an excellent review, thank you.
@darthkek19533 жыл бұрын
Those tables are terrible. Janky pull-out struts? The correct design is to make curved hand-holds that stick out when the tale is folded and then the table just flips onto them. I hope the crew cabin can be swapped out for a tender garage.
@stippolyte3 жыл бұрын
Yet another Ferretti that comes up short, every boat i have seen tested over the last few years seems to have some issue(s) the other big brands, including Ferrettis sister brands, just don't have and not even offset by typically Italianate touches. For me, someone is making poor choices at the design/concept stage. Looking at the other comments, I'm not alone in this conclusion.

Only 50k difference. Comparing the two models on spec, they are very similar, especially considering that some items on the F500 are options. Ferretti is with shafts drives, and those Cummins have a fame that are trouble free from USA boaters which do hundreds of a hours a year. Aft deck space is more spacious on the Ferretti. galley is the same space, but the open space on the Princess makes it feel more spacious. Midships cabin is more spacious on the Princess. The bathrooms are the same size. Flybridge space is a Ferretti win. Ferretti wins in aft deck space and flybridge. Princess wins in midships stateroom. The Ferretti looks very seaworthy in the video, I would not be so sure of the newer Princesses. What I don't like on the Ferretti is the limited 200 nm range and 1300 litres of fuel.

Considering the premium the Ferretti name commands this is a disappointment. Cheap-looking mismatched veneers; even cheaper-looking PAINTED woodwork; unevenly fitted storage locker doors; unacceptable noise dampening; a cramped engine space; the thoughtlessly designed lower helm that forces the captain to twist and contort just to safely see where he/she is going; and, helm design that practically forces anyone of average height or less to stand while piloting. Ferretti only makes nine or ten of these per year to sell to those who are stuck on the brand name. There's a plethora of yachts in this class by other builders that are better in virtually every way for far less.
