This video saved my day! For some weird reason my 2006 Jeep commander started over heating after getting it about a month ago(with no issues) it did not boil over or loose coolant! No engine lights, no sputtering! Just the temp gage went to red. So my dad and I replaced the thermostat. Which looked band new! So we replaced the water pump. It looked good when we got it off. Also the ECTS. Still over heated after adding 50/50 coolant! Then! I Found this video! So thanks!

Never knew this 5.7 had a bleeder valve. I definitely think you are a lifesaver. My engine didn't overheat, but the coolant reservoir acts like it wants to explode everyday. It's hot here in Texas, so I had to flush, and now bleed. I certainly hope that resolves the issue.

working on a 5.7 Hemi dodge charger police edition. Vehicle was over heating while my daughter was driving. Thank God she pulled over and turned off the car. It did get hot enough to hiss from the radiator cap and spit out some coolant. I put a new thermostat and radiator cap. Car still overheated but temperature gauge was still in the middle. I believe air is in the system so tomorrow I will bleed it cold just like this video and change our the fan. Its one big fan....not two. I tested the fan by running a wire from the positive side of the battery to the positive side and the negative to the negative side of the plug in of the fan. Two wires going into a three prong but I aligned them with the wires. Fan wouldn't cut on. Fans wasn't working while car or AC running. No crack head or anything. No milky color on dip stick or inside where you pour in the oil. Coolant not leaking and water pump sounds fine. I'm thinking it has two issues.....air in the system and a bad fan. Will fix tomorrow. Your thoughts?

Something you should also do while the car is running,turn on your heater in your car,that will open up your thermostat and will let you get the proper amount of coolant in your moter and also give you a more accurate level when filling your car with antifreeze,I did learn that.

Video is 5 years old but still very helpful. For anybody doing this on a jeep commander you will have to remove the box connecting to your air box and your throttle body to get to the bleeder valve. Once that box is out the way it’s clearly visible just like in the video

Thanks a million my dude. My heater stopped blowing hot air so I replaced the thermostat...still didnt work. After a little research I stumbled upon this and tried it. Great video. Only other thing I do is I bought another rad cap and tore the lower rubber seal off so the air goes right past the rad cap to the over flow bottle. squeeze the upper rad hose unit you get most of the air out, start the car and you'll see the air bubbles going into the bottle. When it stops let it cool down change caps and you ready to roll.

Thanks for the info. I had a side job coolant temp 3/4 towards hot. Previous guy put a water pump and thermostat. Trying to figure out what happened. Started to drain the coolant. 1/4 of a bucket, that's it. Then pull the thermostat. The coolant was not full. I found the plug. That guy never bled the air out. Had to verify the bleed port. Thanks a lot. You answer my question. 🎉😊

I love it. I've had my nitro for a year and was pleasantly surprised that the 3.7 has a simular plug. It seems that all newer chryslers do. I use to do a simular procedure on previous cars by pulling an upper heater hose. I had a bad overheat once due to following the "run with the cap open" method.

Jiffy Lube refused to flush the coolant in my 07 Charger 5.7. Something about a TSB. Now I know why. They cannot or will not bleed it. I was adding refrigerant to my A/C and cracked the reservoir cap open. Apparently, I pushed air into the system somehow and it boiled over (read fine on the gauge) the next day. I parked it and will try this bleed procedure. Thank You for the fine video. FOLLOW-UP! The bleeding process worked. The air pocket was the whole problem.

I havent tried this bleeding method yet, but im going to now, hopefully my new thermostat isnt faulty. I may have stumbled on a better way. Last year when I had to replace my radiator, I left the upper radiator hose connected to the radiator. I pulled it up as high as I could and filled it up that way until the antifreeze started to come past the thermostat (it was bad and I didn't realize it at the time) today I replaced the water pump and filled it up the same way only I knew I would have to burp it. I took the bleeder screw out and I couldn't get much more than a spoon full before it was running out and that's with the front of the car jacked up. I'm sitting in it letting it idle now, have been for 30-45 minutes alternately running the heat and A/C to see if it'll overheat but it's running just fine, temperature is dead in the middle just like always.

Nice vid. Got a question: do we add any antifreeze directly to the radiator at all? The auto parts salesman suggested I fill the radiator, fill the reservoir, then start the vehicle and proceed to bleed. Its a 5.7 hemi jeep grand Cherokee. Thanks!

Hi David. Very informative video. Thanks!! What about air removal/purge of the air from the hose side of the thermostat? I recently replaced the alternator and for easier removal, removed the hose and housing connected to the thermostat. I didn't think of any air being trapped in that line, and the car seems to run around 219° now, so I quit driving it until I can solve the higher temp problem. Thanks!!

Hello my friend I'm glad I came across your video I need a bit of your advice if you have the time I own a beautiful 2006 Chrysler 300c with the 5.7 liter hemi my Upper radiator hose is going out and I'm going to need to replace it I like to know how I should remove all my antifreeze since I'm going to add some after the work is done I might as well drain all of it
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 5 жыл бұрын
The radiator has a drain on the passenger side but it can get sketchy as the vehicle gets older. If your replacing the upper hose then I would recommend replacing the lower hose as well. Being that we might be doing that....I would place something to catch the antifreeze under the vehicle and then take the lower hose off and catch the antifreeze that comes out of there. Its the method I recommend on the higher mileage vehicles. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

So after you drain your old coolant, you're saying instead of filling with new coolant and running the engine with the heat on and then burping the system, Just take that screw out and fill it up with the new coolant until it starts to drain out? No burping needs to be done. then add more coolant if needed after driving?

I'm about to change the upper radiator hose on a 6.1 hemi. Do I still have to bleed the antifreeze out of the bottom of the radiator at the end?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
The only thing on the bottom is the radiator drain and you use that to lower the coolant to get to the part you need or to drain the majority of the old coolant out. The bleeder is typically on the timing cover if it has one or by removing the coolant temp sensor. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Sometimes it helps to use one of the radiator funnels that that the fluid level is higher then the engine. Here is an example of one: www.harborfreight.com/no-spill-radiator-funnel-kit-58423.html?campaignid=17068610140&adsetid=139104532754&product=58423&store=3324&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkuGxke-_-AIVICCtBh1qvQJ2EAQYASABEgJT3vD_BwE

I recommend calling or going to your local Dodge dealer and give them you VIN and have them look it up. The aftermarket parts stores dont have every part. The dealer will be able to tell you if you can get it seperate or if it comes with the hose. They can even print out the image of the part so that you can be sure that is it. I did a video on a minivan heater hose repair that may or may not work for your issue. Make sure to watch the video to see if it will: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3nLaGSIaLZ-ftE Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
