The ground clearance of the new verna wont create any major problem until you take it to off roading. And the SX model is 14.45L approx onroad kolkata.

Sedan is always more comfortable than SUV. SUV is new craze but not as fuel efficient or has amazing driving dyanamics as sedan. Ground clearance is a myth we have been driving Maruti 800 or that type of car since childhood when roads were super bad but never faced any issue and there ground clearance was around 150mm. So go for what you like than public opinion. For me sedan are still desirable.
