I've got my CBT on Bank Holiday Monday - really, really looking forward to it! I road motorbikes for five years while I lived/worked in India. I did have a local motorbike license, but obviously the requirements and road conditions are very different to the UK (personally, I loved it, but I lived out in a rural area in the mountains with glorious views and incredibly fun, beautiful roads with hundreds of hairpin bends to get you on and off the mountains, not central Mumbai!). Been four years since I've ridden a motorbike, so keen to hop back on. Plan is to buy a little 125cc bike for commuting purposes - should save me around £30/month in fuel costs alone, plus cut my commute time by at least 20 minutes each way because I'll be able to use the bus lanes, and I'll of course have the bike for weekend rides too! This video was helpful - I want to be prepared and having some familiarity with the day and what to expect is helpful so I can make the most of it.

mate your channel is amazing. Stumbled across it as I have always thought riding a bike is too dangerous but having spoke to a friend who did it, I've become intrigued and I find myself now seriously thinking about doing this CBT and your tips have put me at ease and given me an insight into what to expect. The gearing is basically the same as a car so that shouldn't take too long to get the hang of. I cycle so I think my awareness with the shoulder check will come in naturally there. I think I'm gona go for this soon and super excited and nervous.

The bit about the ride at the end of the CBT reminds me of when I took my test. What the examiner was saying was coming through crystal clear, he told me to take the next right. As I approached I did everything I should bar indicating as I had spotted the one way sign indicating I would be going the wrong way, so I went past. His voice came through saying, 'You missed the turn, we'll have to find a way of getting back on route.' Well we did eventually and got back to the test center, he gave me the news I had passed but mentioned about missing the turn. When I told him he was adamant that it was not one way until another examiner over hearing the conversation asked where it was. Apparently my examiner was on his first run after being on holiday for two weeks and the council had changed whilst he was away LOL :D

Beautifully explained and useful to know! Doing mine later today, so was curious to know how it works. I've ridden at the back of my dad's bike for years when I was young and have a full UK driver's license. Did baffle me as to how one just gets onto a bike without a prior knowledge, but it now makes sense. The CBT is essentially your one-stop shop to learn all the basics!

good to see an honest cbt review, i see people all the time who think they go to a car park go around a couple of cones and then go for a ride for half an hour or so then pass and tell all their mates the cbt is easy, you'd be suprised at how many people either find it difficult or just didn't realise how much is actually involved and that it takes all day. Oh and no one prepares lol you learn to drive you read the highway code book, why? you're protected in a big metal box with airbags you have an instructor sat next to you who has dual controls so he/she can stop the car in an emergency, learn to ride you don't read the highway code book and turn up in tracksuit and trainers?? haha makes no sense

Been riding for a week now and slowing down is my problem. most tutorial says that with whatever you do you need to apply the clutch, speeding up or slowing down. That's why it became a bad habit to me that every time i slow down from a reasonable speed i will automatically pull in the clutch and grab the breaks and when i downshift sometimes the rear tire skids or the engine makes a scary noise no matter how i gradually release the cluthc, now i know that you have to use the engine break first before applying the clutch at the last minute when you slows down. Speeding up wasn't a problem, slowing down always scares me. Thanks this helped to point out what i've been doing wrong

Did my theory yesterday, CBT today. Had to go on a 50cc moped because I'd "never ridden before" and 25% of his attention would be on me. But I won't argue with a person who's been riding for 44 years. Got upgraded to a 110cc because I was good enough. Got my CBT. Spanish guy riding with me failed his CBT for passing a red light and never cancelling his indicators. 12/04/19

Crazy that I can go from a automatic 110cc to a manual 650cc for DAS with supervision on the first time. Glad I waited till 24 to do this. Everyone had a car license but it was good to be back on the road with refreshed theory knowledge and car experience. I have to say the roads feel very wide while on a bike, very different and enjoyable. Needless to say, I will have to do the responsible thing of getting a 125cc once I get my full license to gain true experience for 2+ years.

When I did my CBT, I was with 2 other people. We were doing it all day. Think I was the only one of the 3 with no experience at all on a bike. They went on my speed. I dropped the bike on the CBT as well. Leg gave way when I came to a stop at a side road, still have no idea why it went. Broke part of the clutch lever off. The school I go to is one of the better ones though. Small family run business. Always the best. They are more concerned at the quality of learning, rather than costs. On a side note to that. When I was doing my lessons for my A2. I was able to tag a long with another chap who was about to do his test, to watch what will happen. This was free of charge. Straight after my lesson. Their radio works quite well as well. Bloody uncomfortable though.

Haha, yeah tell me abut it mate. It may have only been 5 but either way 3rd time wasn't a charm. To be fair I wasn't dangerous, it was just that the instructor felt that I wasn't confident enough to ride on my own. That and I have issues dealing with stress when I'm under test like conditions. It was the same with my driving test. I could drive the car fine. But I would make mistakes because I'd overthink things. In the end I think it makes you a better rider / driver. As you don't get overconfident like so many young men and woman do when they pass first time. But at least anyone out there doing there CBT can know you can't do much worse than me lmao.

I struggled very hard on manual. I am 17 and it was my first time on the bike. I got to the road test and flew off as i grabbed front brake. Second time i did all exercises on manual learnt how to ride manual just did auto on the road test as it was during peak time and my instructor advised me to. I passed the second time and am now saving for a bike.

+1 for getting the gear, I did my CBT in their kit and the gloves made my hands stink for days, horrible sodden shite, and the jackets looked like they'd been dragged behind a car for a week.

spicy110 I had a 4 hour cbt but just because I was telling the instructor stuff I knew in conversation,he said that’s most of the classroom covered,did a while in the yard turning etc then Out on the road for 2 hours,I guess he could see I had common sense and understood the bike etc. Why would an instructor take me out unless they thought I was fully comfortable with it. I eventually went out in a storm with 30-40mph cross winds lashing rain and flooded roads. I wont forget that I can tell ya lol. It has put me off driving in winter on a new bike so I’m waiting for better weather, get a bit of practice in before the weather turns next year, I’m not so bothered about rain and wind just ⛄️.

I vaguely remember doing a test in Alabama when I was 14. After that I have always had the endorsement on my license. Over 16 they were not requiring an endorsement until 2016. Now it is required again.

Finally got around to doing my CBT on Saturday (at the grand age of 38). Half an hour into the road ride, and I take a tumble as we come round a right hand junction! Broke the front brake lever and the left hand rear indicator. So ended my first road ride. Going back again this coming Saturday to do a 2 or 3 hour road ride.

When I did my cbt it lasted for 12 hrs we did hrs 6 practice in the paddock then 2hrs in the class room then hrs 4 road riding all for a cost of 100ps then I did a course call cbt+ where I did a quick recap of the Highway Code 6hrs of road riding not bad for the price of 60ps well worth the extra practice it helped me out with a few things

When i did the CBT many years ago, you could fail it if you couldn't ride the way they expected you too, putting your feet down, hitting cones etc, and we couldn't go on the road till you passed it, we did it it in a big carpark.

Great video, been riding a scooter for years and a 125cc Honda before that before they changed the license and was alway weary about taking a CBT as not confident but you have changed my mind and I'm going to give it a go, I'm sure I'll do good just the hearing the instructions on the road to get through. Once done that go for a A1 motorcycle test 🙂

I struggled like fuck with the turn in the road, even when I did my test I couldn't do it. Somehow, and I still haven't figured out how, I managed to it on my test. I was lucky, I never had to do a CBT. After riding bikes for years the turn in the road was still my particular ball ache. After not being on a bike for a long time I bought another one. For once in my life I was sensible and I got in touch with a bike training place and asked if they would put me through a refresher course, they said "yeah sure", the instructor then told me about this method actually looking where you want to go and I sailed through the turn. Do it people, it works. I'm assuming that the little refresher thing that I did was along the same lines of a CBT so nothing to worry about. Of course I'd been on bikes so I wasn't going in completely blind. I'd also recommend if you haven't ridden a bike for a while and get one, do a refresher, it was amazing how much I'd forgotten. Stay safe, happy riding.

Okay, so I'm only 15 but I would like to get a motorcycle when I'm older. Do they actually teach you HOW to ride a motorbike during the CBT? Also do they let you borrow a motorcycle for the test or do you need to own your own one? Sorry for the noob like questions, but I would really appreciate a reply 👍👍
@Mad-rg9sz
@Mad-rg9sz 7 жыл бұрын
They will teach you everything, some people will turn up not even having rid a bicycle and leave knowing how to ride a moped. When you book and turn up they should supply gear (recommended you bring your own if you have it) and also a bike for the day :)
