It took me a bit to figure out the AQS functionality and what the icons meant. Orange = can’t auto blip but you can quick shift up at this time. No icon = you can auto blip and quick shift up at this time. For a second I thought I had a faulty QS’r because of the orange icon.

Good explanation nicely done. I recently bought a new bike and i was considering putting a quickshifter on it but i am not sure. Dont get me wrong i think it is amazing tech to have on the bike but i feel like it will make me lazy on the bike. The shifting of gears and trying to rev match and such i feel like it is all part of the riding the bike experience and i think it is fun to do. I like the feeling of being in control of the bike and this takes away a level of control and do it for you. I dont ride on the track where your primary goal is to get around as fast as possible. I only ride on the street for my enjoyment and this is something that i feel is more useful for on the track and just a level of convenience for on the street. Also feel like it is adding to the things that can malfunction and fuk things up.

Thanks! I agree with your sentiments. There is something to be said fobbing skilled at changing gears yourself. I got to that point before I got the Tuono and was a quickshifter nay-sayer until I finally ended up with a 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R that had one stock. That completely changed my mind about electronics. I eventually converted it to a race bike and was never able to get a blipper, so still had to do the downshifts myself. Definitely cost me some time on track, but there isn't an aftermarket option that is reliable for that bike. I do enjoy using the Tuono's though, regardless if it's on track or the road!

Glad you enjoyed! My understanding is that while it's possible to retrofit the factory blipper to a 2016, it requires changing much more than just the sensor, such as the ECU and wiring harness. For what it would cost in parts you would likely be better off selling your 2016 and buying a 2017. Plus, you would get all of the other 17+ features, including cornering ABS and cruise control.

Hi Chad, great video! The tech behind the shifting is explained really well. I'm still a bit unclear on on the downshifts, do you come completly off throttle or just not on throttle? Thanks again
@hiimchad3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed! The Tuono's blipper will allow you to downshift with the throttle closed or open, but I haven't tried it while accelerating for obvious reasons. I have downshifted with the throttle opened slightly to maintain a constant speed and it was a little jerky, but it worked. The downshifts are much smoother with the throttle completely closed, and are very smooth under heavy braking with the throttle closed. 99.9999% of the time I use the blipper is while decelerating, so the throttle is usually completely closed. Hope that's helpful! 🙂

I have a bad left ankle, so will this work so I don't have to flex my foot down under the shifter? There is one for sale near me. Brand new 2021
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
I wish I could give you an easy answer but I'm not sure. It reverses the shift pattern so you press the shifter down to change up gears, and you lift the shifter up from underneath with your foot to downshift. So you would still need to flex your ankle both up and down. Is it uncomfortable all the time, or only in certain situations like if you're accelerating quickly and need to force the shifter up from underneath with some Gs working against you?

Great description nicely explained, i have a 2020 RR not rode mNy miles yet maybe 500 but noticed on my last ride the upshift particularly 2-3 very jerky i get chain slap this was at lower revs and light throttle its fine when riding hard, also auto blip seems to work better higher up revs above 5k noticed it jerky below that. Is there a certain rpm you should use it over? Thanks
@hiimchad2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hisaan, thanks for watching! Mine can be clunky at lower revs sometimes as well, both up and down. I typically just deal with it or use just a little clutch on low rpm downshifts to smooth things out, but the owners manual says the QS can be used above 4k rpm safely.
@ReddyHHH2108 ай бұрын
He man I am just learning about motorcycles in depth.. I got a doubt. When we use quick shift at high rpms the motorcycle makes bang sound , why is it ? My guess is that when the ecu stops some powerstrokes the unburnt fuel in the exhaust is burnt in that few milli seconds . My second guess is that since some powerstrokes are cut off and to overcome the drag and maintain the previous crank rot speed seamlessly , the next powerstroke gets max air fuel ratio , so it produces that paaattt sound ?? Could you please
@hiimchad8 ай бұрын
Most quickshifter systems unload the transmission by cutting the spark. My understanding is that they don't cut the fuel, so some fuel enters the combustion chamber, but is then ejected unburnt, and usually detonates on the hot exhaust pipes, producing the pops/bangs.

Can you downshift into 1st gear using quickshifter? If so, what the max speed you can do this at?
@hiimchad4 ай бұрын
Yes, you can. The blipper is disabled if the bike calculates an over-rev would be needed to match the wheel speed in the next gear down. I've downshifted from 2nd to 1st gear a bit above 70 mph without issue, stock gearing.

Can you please answer my question If im at 150kmph and at top gear, and now im breaking hard to slow down...now should I blip the throttle for downshifts when even im breaking ( my doubt is while im breaking,the speed of wheel decreases which does not raise rpm levels when i down shift so im thinking no need of blip the throttle to mach engine rpm with wheel speed)
@hiimchad2 жыл бұрын
It all depends, but in my experience a small blip of the throttle is usually helpful. Sportbikes have such light flywheels and engines with low revolving mass that revs drop very quickly when you pull the clutch in, even as you decelerate. And if the engine is already at lower rpm, it’s closer to idle and will spin down faster as a result. But again, it’s all a matter of preference. If you have a slipper clutch in your bike, you don’t really need to blip at all, you can just use the clutch lever. If you don’t have a slipper, you will have to modulate the clutch yourself to prevent the rear wheel from chattering on decel, but I have known people who do that. It’s all a matter of personal preference. I’ve found blipping the throttle or using the autoblipper on my Tuono to be most effective.

Having this done on my 2016 RSV4 RF. Does this change your shifting method? Instead of 1 down 5 up, is it more MotoGP oriented?
@hiimchad2 жыл бұрын
Having an autoblipper installed? Not necessarily. You will need to change either which side the shifter linkage arm mounted to the transmission shift spindle is on, or which side of the shift lever the linkage is on. Flipping either of those 180 degrees will result in reverse shifting (1 up, 5 down), but you will need to either reprogram the Q/S sensor, or find one that works the opposite way to actuate the QS or auto blip functions (push vs. pull). Hope that helps!
