The Gospel Pass so named because St Paul walked this way to deliver bibles to the Welsh people. All absolutely true ofcourse:)
It's the highest road in Wales UK and is single track with passing places.
The pass has cattle grids at all entries and exits and there are sheep and wild ponies wondering freely. There are also several parking places and easy access to Hay bluff and other great walks too.

Thanks for the inspiration Sandy. I went and rode the Gospel Pass today, Hay on Wye to Abergavenny. It was excellent. I got my timing just right as I didn't encounter another vehicle on the climb, only a very brave lady on a bicycle. When I got down to Capel-y-Finn I met a couple of guy coming the other way who where just about to head up the pass and then three guys on bikes came the same way as me and stopped at the chapel. I really enjoyed the ride so thank you very much for reminding me of a place I have been meaning to visit.

Enjoyable ride Sandy and nice that you found Darren. The Llanthony Priory is a wonderful ruin sat on its own in beautiful Welsh countryside, part of its cellars are now a Bar with camping opposite, there's a resivour/big lake in a nearby valley with a bothy. It's not Darren's shop Sandy it's Leigh's shop.

I did the Gospel Pass on Tuesday this week (25th April). It was bright and sunny but chilly. I came from the south and it's worth knowing that if you're coming from the south to Gospel Pass, the roads are not at all good - they're in bad shape, boggy in places and very slippery with runoff from the hills. It also goes on for quite a few miles . If you're approaching from Hay on Wye then the approach roads are in much better condition and it's not as long a ride to get there. Another thing to note; I used a sat-nav device to find the pass and it took me to a dead end on a farm several miles away to the south. The lady farmer obviously knew where I wanted to be and asked if I was looking for the pass, so I can only conclude it's not the first time she has come across lost motorcyclists on her farm looking for the pass. She was very good about it, bless her, and she even gave me directions on how to find the pass. In any case, despite getting lost and the bad roads, it was totally worth it, the views are amazing from the top of the pass and on a clear day visibility goes on for miles and miles. I've not seen views like that since riding the Cat & Fiddle last year.

@ Ralph's Moto Diary. I couldn't agree more! I watched the video and read your comment early this morning. Most the motorcyclists seem to do it from the Abergavenny end up to Hay on Wye. (Incidentally for the scenery and views it is the best way) If I was going to do it again I start at Hay on Wye and ride up to the highest point, turn around on the 'car park' and come back and do it the other way. It only takes about 15 minutes each way (as you know) Absolutely stunning up there today in the sunshine. PS I should have listened to you, but I thought it was a longer route. (Bike ended up filthy and I came very close to dropping it when the front slid on rubble and mud) Goodness knows how they manage on racing cycles. 🤔

Love riding the Gospel Pass but usually cycling. It also features on the opening and closing credits of Antiques Road Show with the Citroen 2CV going up and over it with a grandfather clock sticking out the roof. Shame the visibility wasn't so great on your second filing attempt. Don't you have the GoPro App on your phone so you can see what your GoPro is filming and adjust accordingly if necessary? Glad you were out on your V-Strom. You should use it more. The Devil's Staircase is steep. The valley leading up to it is pretty spectacular.

This a a fantastic start to a video series Sandy. You went through all of the extra effort that it wound up taking to get us a great view of it all. Most would have just said that I'm sorry but the camera was not at the best angle so you missed it. Not you, you just had to return and do it again in order to make it fit up to your standards.
