***July 2022 UPDATE: thanks so much for the positive feedback, glad to hear my video helped a TON of you pass your road tests! I've received an overwhelming amount of requests to ride, and unfortunately with my schedule this summer it's unlikely I will be able to take anyone out. For that, head over to the New Riders Edmonton group, otherwise I can help with pre-exam clarification questions. I am also in the process of making a part 2 for this video based on the questions I've received. If you have ideas for topics to cover, let me know and I'll try my best to add it to part 2. Ride safe! Follow me on Instagram: @ride.yeg

I see I got very lucky, there is no way I would pass a motorcycle test now right off the street. I did mine in 1998 when I was 16. The test lady came to my small town but she was in a hurry or something because all I did on my bike was shower the lights and horn worked. No road test and I failed the written test but the registry lady still let it slide haha. The first time I rode the my street bike “ 1980 Suzuki gs1000 “was to town to do the road test that I didn’t do. This Was in Alberta

Hey, I'm from UK been riding 15+ years. Over in Alberta now and have to take bike test again which is amusing! After turning right (and hugging the right side), Is signalling left with indicator as you move over to left side of lane mandatory?
@RideYEG2 жыл бұрын
It depends, but I believe if you are moving from right to left within a clearly defined lane then you do not need to signal (but you need to shoulder check). Often these are not clearly defined painted lanes in residential areas so in that case I would recommend shoulder checking and signalling. Ride safe!

Hm for me I’m quite confident about riding technique and ability as I’ve owned tons of dirt bikes etc before this is just the first bike I’m legally registering/ riding lol .. I’m more concerned with the specifics on road test like the “grey areas” as mentioned in video. For example I heard your supposed to stay in the right hand portion of lane when going through intersection where someone is turning left, but left side if your turning at the same time as vehicles across from you to give you more space in case they take too wide of a turn. Then I’ve heard contradictory statements that all make some sense in their own right. Also when making a turn I get on roads like those, staying tight, signalling etc before moving to main part of lane. What about in a more congested area where there are vehicles parked or marked as parking areas on the side of curb, would you still ride in that lane and signal over in both situations? Or just move to main part at the start
@RideYEG2 жыл бұрын
I would say all of these could be examined dependent so you should ask clarifying questions before the exam starts for the best odds

Hi, Thanks for posting this video, great insight on riding safely and the road test. I had rode a few dirt bikes in my day but very little time on a street bike. I bought my first street bike on May 4, a 2019 Indian Scout Bobber, went for two rides with a friend, watched a few videos, and decided to book a road test on May 16, to learn if nothing else. The road test lasted about 45 minutes. The evaluation had just one recommendation about slowing too much at a crosswalk before a yield. It was awesome! I booked a riders course prior to the road test, but it’s in July, still gonna do that of course. I’ve had my Class 5 since 1990, just to add clarity to my story.

I was failed by the Drive Test instructor because I slowed down too much to make a turn. It was a 2 lane highway. One lane going one way and one lane going the other way. The right hand turn lane was really short and she said I should have maintained my speed and only slowed down in this short turn lane. I tried to tell her my reasoning but she wasn't hearing it. She even told me she'd rather see someone go too fast, than too slow. To make matters worse, there's no more appointments available now. So frustrating!
@RideYEG3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to hear that. That’s surprising they would say that, I also wish there would be more consistency between instructors. Best of luck when you’re able to book your next one. Where did you take the test?
@Shannon_Robbie3 жыл бұрын
@@RideYEG Thanks! Yes I was really surprised as well. There's definite lack of consistency among the instructors. I was worried about going too fast because all the videos warned about that being an automatic fail. Meanwhile, that would have actually saved me in the end. I tried finding information about exiting speed when using a turn lane on a highway. But all I could find was info on big Freeway's like the 401. It was in Pembroke, Ontario.
