I too married my best mate! We've been married for 34 years and still hold hands when we are out and about too. He rode motorbikes from when he was 16, but only got back into it when our son wanted to get his license. Then I felt left out and at 51 got my learners permit with our daughter. We passed the following year. That was 2 years ago and I honestly don't know why it took me so long! I love everything about motorbikes, but especially family rides. You are definitely never too old!!

Hi there Hazel.... I'm 72 and riding around and having lovely time. I live in Northumberland so I know and love the open spaces here.. Yes, I recommend you go for CBT etc and get riding. Once you've got sorted then look at getting your skills at top level via Institute of Advanced Motorists (motorbikes) and/or RoADAR - ( RoSPA, advanced drivers and riders). I'm taking training currently. Great experience.

Great just Great !!!!, i always look forward to your videos and you never fail to deliver. When i did the Northumberland 250 a couple of weeks ago, i stopped in the hotel right next to Chollerford Bridge and i also filled up at that same garage in Bellingham !!!. I should have been doing the North East 250 this week, but its been monsoon season in Lancashire this week and with major fuel issues i cancelled, oh well 1st ride next year. By the way Brian i didn't realise you were a Blackburn man until the last video, i'm a Nelson chap myself only about 14 miles away. I only did my test aged 55 and just love it, total escapism as you have to give 100% concentration. can't wait for episode 3.

Thanks very much Ian - a fellow Lancastrian! 😀 a real pity about your NE 250 trip 😟 but to be honest you don’t really want stress about whether you can fill up your tank and downpours as well. We’re hoping we can get out once more before winter really sets in 🤞 - petrol allowing 🤷♂️ - you’re absolutely right about the escapism - learning to ride was the best thing ever! 😀👍

I'm starting to think you plan your trips around "Beer O'clock". LOL. I do like that you don't go crazy with the number of miles to cover each day when on tour. A steady pace with plenty of time for sightseeing, refreshment stops, detours etc. is how it should be done. As you said on your NC500 tour, plan plenty of days to see it all.

Really enjoying watching this series. A message for Hazel, I have always been interested in riding and took the plunge last year at 55, my wife who is a little bit younger seen how much I enjoyed motorcycling, and took her CBT and riding my KTM 125 which I learnt to ride on and plans to do her tests next spring then planning to get a bigger bike. Despite the low power of the 125 we tour around the local area, great fun, looking forward to when she has more power and we can do some longer trips.

Another well put together video full of useful information for anyone thinking of doing a trip to the Northumberland. There's a good bunkhouse just by that petrol station in Bellingham if a group of riders are going with a co-op within walking distance for "provisions". Watch out for the muffins though during your coffee stops as, they're very fattening 😱. Go for it Hazel 👍

@@midlifemotorcyclediaries thanks for the reply. Its funny as most middle age men yearn for the bmw but i think tiger is visually much nicer. I was thinking the sort of mpg, maintenance/tyre service costs. Handling/ performance in different conditions. Personall i hate adjusting chains so like shaft drive but want something light that can cruise at 80, dont need anymore except comfort for creaking bones. Cant wait for a ride but wont be at least until january. Keep it up. Sue has developed into a very good rider. Her positioning and handling of the bike is excellent. You have a great life together

Hi Michael, thank you for your lovely comments. I think the Tiger is better looking too, but I guess I’m biased 😉 I’m actually not sure what the MPG is but I typically get c230 miles out of a full tank. I’ve only had it since March and just passed 3000 miles so it’s only had one service so far - at 600 miles. The next is 6000 or 12 months. (I think the 6000 will happen before next March ) We’ve ridden in wind, rain and heat and it really is a delight to ride and I really notice the difference in weight when compared with the 800 xrt I had before the 900 - it feels much easier to manoeuvre and less top heavy. We (by ‘we’ I mean Bri 😊) lube the chain after every long trip but we’ll leave any adjustments to the Triumph garage, once it’s done a few thousand more miles. (Neither of us are especially technical. Pumping tyres and lubing chain are probably the extent of our mechanical skill set). I really love it but if I had to give one negative, the seat isn’t as comfy as the 800 and, because it’s heated, I can’t change it. It’s really not a big deal but my boney posterior aches after an hour and a half or so 😬 so we stop regularly for a stretch. It really was one of my better decisions, Michael and I can’t recommend it enough. Bri loves it too - but he’ll always be a committed GSA owner. Hope you love it too and wishing you many miles of smiles. 👍🏍

G'Day from Australia! Great video, I grew up in the north of England and spent many days riding the awesome roads of Northumberland, this brought back many happy memories. Look me up if you're ever Down Under, we can collaborate on a joint tour video production! Cheers Nick (AKA The Boomerang Biker)

Yes! Another MMD video - great start to the day. Toasted crumpets pot of tea and feet up for half an hour. And Hazel - you're never too old to learn to ride. I passed my test in November 2017 and I was sixty the following January. Get that CBT booked!

Great mix of music. Bit harsh on the bike parking scores though I thought - I think it’s better for the bikes to be fully visible so they are overlooked and make potential thieves think twice.

Thanks Ian! - I think it’s personal preference, I used to live in London and opportunists would drive by and if a bike could be seen it was a target , I learned the hard way 😟 but thanks for watching and commenting! 😀👍
