I tried all options fuse, relay, oil change, etc but it won't start. The lights come on, the fuel pumps ok and the battery tested fine. Watched so many KZbin videos, and all talk the same thing but nogo. After watching your video, I changed the battery in the key, Thanks you're the man! I riding happily now.

Stephen, THANK YOU for posting this video! I went over to a friend's house and when I tried to leave and start my 2008 HD Road King Classic...NOTHING happened. After 30 minutes of trying to figure what the problem might be, I ended-up calling AAA for a tow. The next day, I went to You Tube and asked the question and your wonderful post popped-up! I immediately took my back-up fob and my bike STARTED!!! So HAPPY and again...MANY THANKS for this cheap fix!

I’m a little late to see this video unfortunately. I had the same problem of trying to start my bike and the lights would come on but nothing would happen and I would jiggly the ignition and for whatever reason it started so I figured it was the ignition switch and I had it replaced by Harley Davidson yesterday. Got the bike back tried to start it this morning and had the same issue. So I searched on KZbin found this video changed the battery on my fob and now it’s working. Thanks for the video much appreciated. Safe riding! 👍👍👍

Thanks Stephen, I tried starting my 08 fatbob but it wouldn't turn over. I checked my fob 2032 battery (3 volt battery} and I thought it was good at 2.97 volts. Fob would NOT let the bike start! So I got a new 2032 battery and tested it and it was at 3.32 volts new, Low and behold- it STARTED! Damn sensitive fobs lol... thanks again dude! I own a 2015 Heritage Sofail & Just like most People, I learnt the hard way to always check the keyfob battery first, & I usually find that, that's what the problem usually is, there's usually enough power in the battery to make all the lights light up but not quite enough to start the Bike so I used to think that I needed a new battery for the Bike, but the first time it happened I'd just had it on charge for about 30 hours straight so I thought that the battery was'nt holding the charge but before replacing it I tried changing the keyfob battery first & the engine kicked over straight away so now whenever it does'nt start, the keyfob battery is the first thing that I check, My owners manual says that the keyfob battery should be replaced at least every 12 months, I remember one time when it would'nt start & I tried everything including replacing the keyfob battery & the Bike still would'nt start so I checked all the fuses & they were all ok, so then I checked the 7•5 amp fuse that is in that little wire that connects the trickle charger wire to the positive terminal on the Bike battery & it was blown, there was just enough contact where it had blown to let the lights come on but not enough contact to let the Bike start, luckily I had a spare fuse so I replaced it & the Bike started up straight away, most of us are'nt Mechanics so We all have to go by trial & error & get different tips from each other as well so that's why I mentioned about that little fuse, I hope that this helps somebody else in the same situation.

@@StephenRamsey Yeah thanks for that, I live in Australia & over here We can buy the 2032 size button batteries in 2, 4 or 6 packs at most Supermarkets so I Always make sure that I have a few spares with Me just incase because the one that I've got in the keyfob isn't necessarily going to go flat & not let the engine start only when it's convenient, like only when I'm at home.

I think I may be having the same issue. I cranked my 2012 electra glide twice over the weekend. I went to crank it up Tuesday morning to take it to work. I turned the key to the ignition and I could hear the fuel pump priming. I turned on my left flasher to check out my lights and all my lights started flashing at once. So do you think my key fob needs another battery? I hope so.

2005 Ultra here. My bike would crank just fine, Had spark, put fresh plugs in, "still wouldn't fire up. The key FOB was the answer, it fired right up. March 2022.

I've got a 2013 nightrod special, and when I start the bike up and turn the ignition on everything lights up but as soon as I hit the start button it cranks and lights start flickering, hoping that the key fob battery is all that needs replacing and not the actual battery itself. Thank you for posting my man, will pick up some 2032 batteries after work

Hey Anoop, it does sound like it's your security system attempting to verify the key, but without experiencing it first hand it's hard for me to say. Please come back and update myself and everyone if you will with what's occurring with your Nightrod Special and the solution. Very nice machine choice if I may say so myself!

@@StephenRamsey Hey Stephen, appreciate the help and the kind words! So I changed the batteries in both key fobs and no luck. Hooked up the battery to a battery tender/charger yesterday and it was fully charged (sold green light) this morning, turned the bike on and it fired up right away, let it run about 20 minutes before leaving for work and everything was solid. But as soon as I turned the bike off the tender light started flashing green (is this normal?), so I'm not sure if the LED turn signal lights I've added are draining too much battery, if the battery itself is weak or if maybe a fuse or something is out. Any tips, suggestions or advice would be helpful!
@StephenRamsey2 жыл бұрын
@@anoopotal Hey Anoop, do you know how old your battery is? Also, what brand it is? I've had Deka out perform Harley brand batteries before, and on ATV's the best brand I've experienced is Yuasa where you add your own electrolytes, charge until fully charged, let it sit an hour then install. Every battery has its own requirements prior to install because you don't know how long they've sat, but if it was a fuse, I don't feel like it would have ran that long at all. It's rare that charging systems on cruiser bikes go bad, but unfortunately everything dies sooner or later. Most LED lights use less power than standard lights and bulbs so if they aren't doing anything funny, I wouldn't believe it would be them, but again, a battery will even make a car act funny. Just ran into it with my old 04 jeep that's been on this channel before, that I sold to a friend, where the old battery made it do weird things. Changed it out, now it's all good. But may be trial and error with changing out the basics and going from there. Definitely don't want to be left stranded.

@@StephenRamsey Appreciate you getting back to me, it turned out that the battery just needed a good old charge, I let it charge overnight (AGAIN) and it tendered perfectly. Went to start the bike up the next day and it fired right up. Been about a week now and it fires up every single time, knock on wood and fingers crossed that it stays this way. Thank you for sharing your tips/experience my man, means a lot and stay safe during riding season!

@StephenRamsey2 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, it will be a black round plastic type receiver, if it’s Harley brand it should have the Harley logo engraved in it. Most bikes I believe after the mid 2000’s (and some before) came with these, and the locking key (looks like a basic safe key).

Wouldn’t the bike alarm or flash if it didn’t see key?
@StephenRamsey Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if others had their bike react to where the security engaged causing their lights to flash but mine did not. It was as if the fob has just enough power to put it at ease, but not enough to let the system know that it was nearby.

@@StephenRamsey well I’ll go ahead and answer my own question. I just found this video because my bike wouldn’t start. The fuel pump would come on. Everything would sound normal. No security alarms or lights either. Found your video. Thought no way that’s it. My fob battery is only maybe 6 months old. However I do keep the fob in my bag. Long story short swapped battery after watching video and started right up. I had even called my mechanic and asked him a bunch of questions. I had decided I was going to take it to his shop until finding your video. I ended up texting him and told him what it was. He texted me this back which I didn’t know either so I’ll share: Also, some gas stations. The pumps have the same frequency or close to the same frequency as the fob. When you roll the bike away from the pumps, the bike will start something else to keep in mind.
