Youre battery isnt nessessarily dead if nothing comes on when you got to start it. It could be your main fuse also.

And even when you think your battery is ok, there's a difference between dead battery and bad battery. Check it's voltage DC and when you turn over the bike (crank it) make sure the voltage doesn't go below a specification from your bike's manual for the ignition. A bad battery will power your lights but not produce enough voltage to run through all your electrical components.

My bike does exactly that slow winding sound but not clicking. My light is still on so don't think battery is the problem though? And also - even if battery was dead, i should be able to kickstart it or run with it and kick it into gear, no? But that doesnt work either... Any other ideas?

@@funkymonkey7202 It was the battery - though more than that it was the "joys of modern engineering". Really didn't make much sense but i realized at some point that the connection on the battery was really touchy. Well, something like that - my guess was that some cable somewhere in there was made out of some crappy Chinese metal that simply didn't conduct electricity very well, cause i had very random on-and-off issues with that. (it's a non-scientific explanation but the only one that made sense to my brain, it was weird, really). Over time i guess that worn out the battery. Actually the battery itself wasn't bad - it still held power fine, but just swapping it for a new one nonetheless immediately helped. Though still, i always had some odd non-sensical issues, hence i really think there must've been some chinesium metal in there somewhere... Still the bike took me halfway around the globe, i had my fun :)

@@funkymonkey7202 You can try jumpstarting/charging the battery - but for me that was a one-time solution. The next day i had the same issue. And it was perplexing - cause I was sure that kicking the bike into gear while going downhill or just kickstarting it should do the trick even without the battery (what's the point of the kickstart otherwise...) but on that bike at least the kickstarter was useless if battery had an issue. Again - i think it was just some shitty chinese components somewhere in the bike that caused the problems - even several mechanics i asked about it just scratched their heads, cause everything seemed like it should all work but well... it didn't. So yeah, i don't know if you have the same issue or not, but especially if it's a cheaper/newer bike, like mine was, if there's a chance of some cheap/chinese electric components inside - I'd say it might be some "illogical" problem like that. Changing the battery would be a start, to see if that solves anything for you. And even before that - try just disconnecting the battery, cleaning the connectors and re-connecting it. Strangely even that much helped when i had that problem first few times. There was no rust or anything on my connectors but again - i think something somewhere in the electric connections wasn't conducting electricity very well, and sometimes just messing with it for a moment made it "fix" itself, even if just temporarily...

Fixed. My issue (recurring issue other months). battery keeps dying. I actually problem solved this a month ago when i stator died or wasn't charging. Replaced stator and haven't had an issue since today, today was a dead battery. Battery is 2yrs old so i may look into getting it replaced. Came home charged battery "again" seems like I'm charging battery every other month. Put battery back in bike, BAM started np. batteries been giving me ALOT of grief lately. i will be replacing batter in the next 2 months or so.-Great video! Still helping ppl 7yrs later.

Do you have a part 2? My bike was running then went to start next time and nothing. Lights and gauges work bike not turning over. It will normally start in any gear without clutch engaged and kickstand down. Only way it starts is pushing and popping clutch. I cleaned the contacts on the ignition and kill switch and checked fuses

i got a 99 nomad 1500 that wont crank when u push start .. you can hear the fuel pump pumping gas but no crank BUT if i hot sart it meaning i use some needle nose pliers and touch the wires wher the master fuse is located at and press start it will turn on rite away... what can that be due too ? iv cheked all fuses and gone trugh most of the wires for mis conections and i dont see anything els also after duing this hot wire method a few times im able to start it normal no pliers needed

I tried to start my GZ250 with the only spark plug wire disconnected. Initially it cranked a bit and then less. I realized what happened only after attempting multiple times. Now with the wire back on it still won’t start and won’t even turn over. There’s no clicking at all but the headlights are dim and the horn is weak. Did I possibly drain my battery trying to do this? Also: I already unscrewed the spark plug and put it back WITH the wire to release any possible fumes or pressure built up in the ignition chamber.

How about when you turn the key, I don’t get that sound you hear? I turn the key and just lights go on but nothing else. Then I press the fire up and the engine tuns over and turns over but never fires up. Battery fully charge every time. The tip over sensor on my Harley routine is, turn on than off, turn back on, turn off the hazards, turn back off. Than attempt to start it again. I dropped mine in sand, boy was that fun, riding my Harley on the beach lmao.

What do you do if your fuse is blown. So I just bought a 600cc Honda shadow 06 the owner started it multiple times no problem. Now I took it home and rode it a little bit and it wouldn’t run after like the next day. So I thought it was the battery and bought a new one, so when I go to put the key in there’s no noises or anything but the lights on everything come on and when I pull the clutch and start it there’s a single click and all the lights dim off. And it doesn’t do anything for like the next 20 minutes I’m new to riding

2009 Street Bob. Turn key, put kill switch to run, headlight comes on, oil light and neutral light come on, fuel injector cycles. Hit start button... nothing at all. Very good video but yeah question. I have a 99 Yamaha yzf 600r and it stop starting using the button. At first I use to grab the clutch and then push the start button. Then that stop working and it would just start using just the button and now when I push the button my oil light and gas light comes on but nothing happens at first I thought it was the whole kill switch so I replaced it and still the same thing. So to ride my bike now I have to start it using the stator. Any idea what happened?

My guess is the starter

The starter-solenoid might also be bad which does not send electrical current to the starter. Therefore, the bike will not start.

Honda Varadero XL 125cc - Turned key and dials and lights in dash on. Nothing though when key turned to start engine and battery 12.45amp before starting. After 2 mins it was 11.35 amp so presume battery needs replacing so ordered new one. I had been starting it up letting it run and not going anywhere but learnt wrong thing to do so might have used up the battery life.

I have an 88 Honda Shadow vt800c. I dropped it on its left side for maybe 30 seconds till I could pick it back up. It was leaking a lot of gas during this time. Picked it back up but it now won't start. All the electrical work is fine. I have tried to start it several times but nothing fires. It turns over and there are puffs of air coming out the exhaust but it won't fire. It sounds the same as when it normally starts. I've hooked it up to my trickle charger and have tried to start it several times now. I know most carb bikes leak fuel when in their left side and that I likely flooded the motor. Im not sure how to fix that though. I've let it sit overnight and tried to start it again this morning but nothing happened other than what I've said. Also I thought it might just be out of gas but I refilled the tank and still nothing.

Have you tried bleeding the carburetor? I have a Chinese dirt bike. Whenever I drop it, it won't start. Fuel, I'm told has flooded an area in the carburetor. There is a screw on the side of the carb. Once you open this, if this is the problem, petrol will come out of an overflow nozzle on the side of the carb. This slows after about 5 seconds. Tighten​ the flat head screw again and it usually lets the bike start. I was shown this by a Chinese farmer. Handy trick

If your battery is low enouhh to run accesories but not crank just roll down a hill and drop the clutch once your at like 10 mph and she will start if your bike is carburated you can do this if its fully dead

Hello! I am a 17 year old with a moped ( Derbi GTR50 ) My bike wont start running for some reason and I can’t figure out why. I changed the spark plug around 2 weeks ago, it has gas and oil in it, ive checked all around it and nothing seems loose or un-cabled. I also changed the battery overnight but that didn’t do much other than the lights getting stronger, I also screwed off the exhaust pipe to give it more oxygen but that also didn’t do anything. So in the last scenario after checking all those things. Kill switch closed loop, in neutral, kickstand up, clutch in, and bike still doesn't crank. I have a yamaha v star 650 and the lights come on, gauges come on, no check engine light, but when I push start button nothing happens. If I keep trying I'll maybe get it crank once but then nothing.

@@migue.7818 Usually a wire touching something that it shouldn't be touching and you can tell by either looking at the fuse and seeing if the element inside it is broken or if you turn the ignition key and and no lights come on in the dash then that's a blown main fuse.

My tester says my battery is hot,,, but when I turn the key to On I get nothing. No gauge or head lights, no start button or fuel pump. I have a triumph 2016 bonneville t100 efi. I replaced the ignition switch which came with new keys with the ignition. My problem is when I go to start the bike, the lights on the dash light up and the fuel pump primes but the bike will not turn over.
