Very usefull for someone who wants a second hand bike. I'm wondering how many people are checking before like this the bike. Myself I prefer a new bike, it's more confortable and for 2 years you are safe, then buy a new one, again 2 years safe guaranty. There are some dealers which are selling second hand bikes with one year guarantee, this is a good sign from them and you can buy it more relaxed. Thanks for sharing the video!

I would add another question... you have 141000 km... when did you buy this bike? Then you can understand how many km he did during that time. If the bike has few years and so many km, it means that he rode it for a long time. If the bike has 10 years, then he didn't use it much (it's not your case at all 😁). But of course, everything depends... anyway you can have an idea. I bought a used BMW 1100GS that had 13000 km and it had two years, that means 6500 km/year (he didn't use it much), and it was in perfect conditions, not even a small scratch. However, thank you very much for your tips and for your videos always very interesting. A big hello from Tallinn, unfortunately without any bike... the life... 🙁

Excellent advice, as usual...thank you! A thought. I got my simple, low mileage, stock bike after having been in storage for 10 years (now 21 years old). After a little care and many after market upgrades, she is a reliable, joy to spend time on.! My point is, that I would be quite disappointed if someone was not willing to give me a fair price for her simply because she has many after market upgrades (which were done with thought and care)! But I understand your point completely! Cheers Pavlin!
@iustitiaepervenit4 жыл бұрын
You can always see when the seller took care of the bike. But it also depends on a customer. There are people who really don't understand about all the care and investment and they are just looking for lowest price, even if they will pay for all the maintenance by themself after they buy it. )

I own Yamaha R1 2002 and since I bought it (4 years ago or so) it had trouble starting - like 5 seconds (really long for a bike). It starts better if you just blip the starter then on second push of the button it starts almost immediately. It's been doing it all the time and otherwise works like a charm. Even internet forums are saying this bike has trouble starting. I know something has to be wrong (from factory or somewhere else) but why bother to fix it when it works for years. I might do a valve clearance/throttle bodies but still have doubts it will help. My point is some bikes might just be totally fine even if it appears like something is not working.
@elobiretv2 жыл бұрын
If the bike doesn't start properly then how is it "totally fine"? Something like that would put me off purchasing a bike.
@kovrcek2 жыл бұрын
@@elobiretv well it did this for years (even to the previous and only owner) without issues and last year it went really bad I had to crank the throttle wide open to start it. Then when a buyer should come half an hour from me it finally broke lol. And imagine what it was! No valves, throttle bodies etc. It was the starting solenoid. I always thought it is an on/off switch. Either it works or doesn't. After I changed it the bike starts quickly and reliably now.

Hello Pavlin! Great video, as always - but just a little late for me :) - after watching many of your videos - i bought xt660z last month. It is 2008, and has only 28k on the clock, which i hope is correct because i know previous owner. One thing bothers me: when i changed cooling liquid - it came clean from the radiator, but not from plastic reservoir: from there it was darker and muddy. I needed to take reservoir off and clean it - and there was a small amount of this "mud" in it. Should i worry about this ? Some mechanic told me that this could happen if bike was sitting for longer times (which it was), and if the coolant was not changed for a long time, or even never. I noticed that you mentioned this in your video, so just hoping that i could hear your opinion . Keep up the great work !
@motorcycleadventures4 жыл бұрын
It usually happens when the antifreeze is mixed with water or is used only water. Some of the metal elements got rust. I never changed mine. I am still with the original antifreeze and it is clean. Flush the system and see how its going to be after that. For future use only antifreeze.
@antiR3ality4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for fast answer! Yes, i already flushed it and put new antifreeze. I will see what happens now. It was strange that only the antifreeze in the plastic reservoir was dirty. The one that came out from the radiator was clean. Thanks once again!
@motorcycleadventures4 жыл бұрын
The coolant in the reservoir stays still and only move in the case the level in the engine goes up or down. The rest circle all the time and this keep it clean or at least you cannot see it. If you drain it and keep it in a transparent container you will have the same color. At least this is what I think, but I might be wrong.

Very good video. I'm much less expereienced than Pavlin (as a matter of fact I'm a rookie) but here is my experience based on my and my friends experiences. Rule nr. 1.: Buy only from owners, never from dealers. Dealers have only one purpose - selling. They will tell you lies if they have to if they can sell the bike as a result. Rule nr. 2.: According to the current EU laws if you buy a used bike you have no right to complain because the moment you signed the contract you agreed and accepted its current condition. Rule nr. 3.: Even if you buy the bike from the owner it doesn't mean that you are going to buy a good bike. Hoping that if you buy from a rider "brother/sister" doesn't mean that he/she will tell you the vices/weaknesses of the bike maybe because they don't know it but more likely because they don't want you to know about it. Rule nr. 4.: Check how much km is in the tachometer, check for "signs" (mechanical damage, scratches, dirt or if its clean, corrosion) and check if the bike was really taken care of - is there any scott-oiler, any additional box, damaged bolts (somebody started something they shouldn't have to), electrical indicators etc. Rule nr. 5.: Go for a test drive! How can you avoid any troubles when you buy a used motorbike? Here is my practice: tell the owner that you take the bike to a professional motorbike service-crew. You make a proper pre-saling contract, which entitles you to take the bike to a service, get to know its weaknesses, you pay for the general professional review of the service and you (as well as the owner) will know everything about the bike. If you don't like it - no problem, you paid some money for the service and you give thew motorbike back to the owner. You lost some money instead of buying a bike which requires the same amount of money as its original price to get it back to its mint condition. If the owner says that they don't agree irregardless there is a written document about the service-review - forget about it. You tell the owner which service you take the bike, you pay for the service check of the bike, you give written document about this whole process, you tell the owner that he/she can come with you to check the service - if they don't agree there is some serious problem with the bike. You can also download the service book of the bike before you buy it, in order to get to know it better.
@MyYTwatcher4 жыл бұрын
Your rule nr 1 is not that right. Car and bike dealers differ a lot. Bike dealers are usually fans of motorcycling. Yes, they will want you to buy, but they will not lie as much as a car dealer. Rule nr 2 is generally not correct and I am almost sure that it is not valid in EU at all. Rule nr 4 is totally useless. Tachometer can be altered. And in many countries it most likely will be. I would never consider tachometer as some important thing. It could be broken and replaced and you have no idea. I would just take in account that tourer will have 10-20 000 km per year and other bikes something less (cca 5 000 km/year). If anybody sell 10 years old bike with 15 000 km, I would not believe it. I agree though that if you buy, you should ask for checking it at some service. You will pay some small money just for mechanic to look at the bike, but it may save you a lot more.
@motorcycleadventures4 жыл бұрын
As I said in the video the dealers are not bad but it is always better to buy from the owner. The mileage could be manipulated but not the condition. You don't have to agree with everything I said this is not the idea of the video. Thanks for your time!
@joenoname99094 жыл бұрын
@@MyYTwatcher Good for you, unfortunately I have only bad experiences even with the bike dealers in my country. In Hungary lots of dealers buy cheap motorbikes from Austria and Italy and I have seen lots of examples on their attitude. They just grab the bike, pay the cash, no documents and they try to convince you to buy it and sign a paper which says you bought it directly from the previous owner.
