I can vouch for the 2013 Honda CRF250L- rented one last year in Thailand for a 800km road trip over 5 days. It surpassed every expectation. Good power, fun on the twisties, easy to strap a pack to, starts everytime without fail, economical and all around fun. Im 6'1, 186lbs and it seemed to fit me perfectly. Ended up on some mountain trails that i would even be hesitant to take a Trials or Motocross bike on, but the 250L smashed through them without too much trouble. Only complaint that it was a little heavy on inclines that steep. On normal country roads, back roads and reasonable offroad track- the 250L is a treat!

I own a 2010 KLX250S which is essentially the same bike, just different graphics. It's a great bike and I can highly recommend it to anyone. I too had the starting problem you mentioned. But after about 2000 miles on the clock it has sorted itself out. Maybe the bike you had was too new. My dealer and a few people I know with the KLX told me that the starting problem goes away with a few more miles on the bike. Great review keep up the good work.

ossa60 suspension probably be ez compared to adding fuel injection on the kawa plus better reasale... id saw new honda wins for sure but used.... even though i like the honda more id probably get the kawasaki since its like $1000 less used and im cheep like that hahahaha
@joeylindblom9421

@@Herboutwest That argument does not make any sense. Ossa is talking about replacing parts that are usually replaced anyways after preference. You are talking an entire engine rebuild. That's not the point. The bikes are fundamentally different. But they both have pegs and they both have tires. The argument is, that the KAWA can replace those easily and cheaply. But arguably have much better suspension. Which is a much bigger deal than EFI and tires and pegs. In this scenario.
@Herboutwest
@Herboutwest 5 жыл бұрын
@@joeylindblom9421 what? I'm just saying its easier to change the suspension then switch it to efi... nothing about engine rebuild or anything in that... ok so suspension probably costs more but I'd say efi is a much bigger deal then slightly better suspension... I mean unless your doing big ass jumps or weigh over 350lbs, or racing supermoto. Soo guess I mean for 95% of the people who buy these kinda bikes. But like I said I'd get the kawa cuz its about $1000 to 3k less used than the others.

Would like to see a remake video with a side by side comparison between the 2019 KLX250, Honda CR250L, Yamaha WR250R, Suzuki DR200S(Wish this was a 250 too), and for giggles through in a CSC TT250 and see how they stack up. I am curious as the more and more I shop for my next bike the more and more I am thinking smaller and dual sport as my islands top speed on the road is only 50 MPH and we have plenty of spots to go off road. Gotta love livin' Kaua'i! Aloha!

Good review guys, again. I believe you're doing the best motorcycle reviews atm. I'm getting into dirt biking even though I've been a road rider for 10 years with some minor off roading experience. I'm moving to a place with more dirt than tarmac roads so I was thinking about a KLR650 or something in that class as coming from an R1 I would like to have some power. Cheers.

95% of the Kawasaki's starting issues that they mentioned are due to the decompressor. When you're in there for the first valve check, disable it. Fires up instantly after that.

Owned the FI version of the Kawi in Thailand, 2011, and bought the Honda when I came home in September 2012. Put a little over 10,000 km on the KLX. I rode the Honda to Costa Rica from Montana and it is up for sale with a little over 13,000 miles. Did some great off-roading in South East Asia and the Kawi suspension, to my recollection, is a little better than the Honda off-road. The Honda purrs up inclines the Kawi attacks. The Honda is probably better in loose stuff, including rocky places.

Yes, you could get either a Keihin FCR or a Mikuni TM pumper carb for that bike. The TM would have to be bored to a 34mm to be the same size as stock however as it comes in a 33mm. Their is kits made so they can be bolted in. it comes down to adapters to fit the boots and cables. Kawasaki Forums would be a good place to search and ask. The stock carb is epa lean. Adjust the fuel screw for better starting, and a jet kit with a better taper needle would be the cheaper route.

I have 3 motorbikes carb is nicer to work with I can fix them on my own, I had a problem with my fuel injection Kawasaki and it costed over £300 to get it fixed because you need specialist equipment to fix it ,ie the diagnostics With carb I can do all that myself but with fuel injection if something goes wrong it's a big bill from the garage and I had to take my bike too Kawasaki as the 8 bike shops around me don't have the diagnostic tech to fix it. Luckily I have a mx trailer so didn't have to rent the stuff but cost me £60 in fuel to get there and back. Carb > injection

I would ask kawi directly but can not find phone or e mail to do so

What's faster accelerating in a straight line and which will have a higher highway speed, I know they are dual sports but I'm just curious. I've seen the crf quoted as having a top speed of about 68 miles per hour but the KLX250 has been quoted as being able to reach about 95-100 mph. Why is it that two bikes with similar power would have such different top speeds? I know the crf weighs more.

Per Motorcycle-USA “On the road it performs just fine for pretty much anyone. Problem is it just doesn't have any ‘snap’ which makes it trickier to ride in some areas say if you’re trying to hop the front wheel over rocks. The big space between second and third gear doesn't help things either, so you have to decide whether to keep the engine screaming in second gear or lugging in third when climbing steeper hills or riding on softer dirt.” The torque is .56 higher but the curve is too linear.

"If it aint broke, don't fix it" The KLX hasn't had anything changed in the recent years because it was a superior bike over the Honda. Honda had to reinvent their 250 because it was slacking (But that's just my opinion). I've ridden both, and have had my 09 KLX250S ever since. Still going strong. If I were to buy a new bike I would still consider them both again. Although in regards to the Honda, just the added fuel injection on a smaller bike, and the added fuel gauge wouldn't convince me much.

Yeah, I chose between these two. Was a hard choice, for sure. The honda felt too low and wide, and its also a bit heavier. For my body type the kawa felt more natural. The carb is a bit of an annoyance... but thats all it is; an annoyance. It will always start, it will always get you there. Make sure before you get drawn into a conclusion to actually sit on the bike in question.

The fact that the KLX has fully adjustable suspension makes it worth the extra $600. The Honda would require extensive work and money to make it even out in that regard. Regardless you have to set them up for your weight and riding style anyhow. As far as the FI vs. the carbed KLX goes. Well FI is nice no doubt about it, but as far as tuning and upgrades go it is much cheaper to do so with a carbed bike. It would be nice though it they put an FCR pumper carb instead of a CV carb, issue fixe

I have ridden them both and I don't care what the dyno shows the honda was boring and slower then the Kawi. Maybe it is the extra 20lbs could be part of the problem. In my shootout the honda lost because it was slower and the suspension was weak off road.If you are going to spend a good amount of your time on the dirt you might want to try them back to back before purchasing.

They have the adjustable rear shock for the honda that you can buy with that extra money saved. The bottom end shocks start at $150 and the top line is square on $600. After that it's up to you to decide how to go about it; install it and adjust yourself, which might be a bit too big of a project and will put the bike out of commision for a few days or take it to a mechanic and have them install and adjust.

Yeah it seemed they were hung up on the FI, I mean the one issue there is lay the bike down in a water crossing and your toast, Carb not so much pull the plugs/s and turn it over to shoot the water out. Also FI is more complex, so way out int he back woods of CO its a matter of time till a FI issue brings you to an end and a long walk out. Also it seems they just ran the bikes down some graded roads...heck I just took a KLR650 through ATV trails and what have you.

I'm just going off of what they said, which is that the Honda was a bit more torquey, at least to them, while they were riding it around. That linear power is what pushes you out of corners, which is what matters really, not straight line quarter-mile acceleration. Yes, the Honda suspension is not as good. But I figure a lot of riders don't need adjustable suspension, and for that type of rider, the CRF represents good value. Fuel injection is important to those "casual" riders, as well

Soo why is it that my klx 250 ....2012 have fuel injektion ?? when this one does not?? It even says on kawasakis home page that it has fuel injektion.

The European models have Fuel Injection. However the rest of the world gets a carburettor.

pboy5456 As I stated in my comment, European models of the Kawasaki have EFI, which would likely mean he lives in Europe. And judging by the way he spelt Injection, he most likely lives in a Germanic based language speaking country. So don't be so harsh.

Im just saying having it spelt like that is just stupid.

Well, that is how it is spelt in German according to Google Translate.

If you're serious about getting a 250 dual sport, its a better idea to buy a Yamaha wr250r ( of course if your budget allows). the Yamaha has a newer better engine which gives much better performance. But then again the Kawasaki and Honda are both great bikes.

The WR250r is not really new it is 1/4 R1 The KLX is the best bang for the buck. Put your extra money on KLX mods and you will be happier than putting that money into the WR or The CRF! Mine now has a 351 big bore kit and it has the same power to weight as my DRZ400 but better suspended and 30lbs + lighter and lower seat and better looking..

+BRRAP Hi i want some advice on a bike, i really like the CRF 250, but I want to know if it's a good bike to ride in the city, i mean i want a bike to go to work and back to home, but also be able to travel to nearby cities, i got plenty of suggestions but i have a hard time choosing, i got the : - kawasaki ninja 300/ Z300 / Z250 - KTM duke 200 - Honda CRF 250 / Kawasaki KLX 250 I don't know what to choose, but in general i want a bike with a nice price, not too fast ( around 140 km/h as top speed is OK) , and not too heavy, maneuvrable (since it's my first bike) and that can travel between close cities. Thank you in advance.

They're both street legal, so they both have to running lights. Although, it appears the Honda's front turn signals are "running lights" as well.

Some of the comments are more informative than this clip. Is it just me or have all the comparison writers become incredibly benign? Weight? Performance? Which is better for low speed? Getting over a log? Drove it on pavement, drove it on a dirt road well good for you. They didn't show anyplace that I wouldn't go (carefully) on my ZX9R! Blabla foot-pegs and instrument cluster. What's all that ground clearance for? Was this your 1st rodeo?

Looking to buy a 250 dual sport this year. Too bad Kawasaki does not offer FI
@TheGuyWho3415
@TheGuyWho3415 9 жыл бұрын
Honestly doesn't matter that much. Kawasaki is overall a better bike. Video makes a big deal about FI, but it mostly just creates the need for a fuel indicator, as carbed bikes have a reserve tank.
