Great review. I like the combination of footage and discussion. I picked up the new Pikes Peak last week and, like you, found that the slightly tweaked geometry makes it really great for curvy roads (here, in the California foothills). I also like the fact that, at 5 ft, 8 inches, I can easily get my foot down once the spacer was removed. It's great to get this level of dual sport performance in a bike that is accessible to us medium-sized folk. The new dash and menu system are also first-rate.

I am on my second Multistrada 2014GT and I agree if you have the earlier versions, there is no need to rush out and get a new one 1260 or V4S. The 2014 and earlier versions actually are better mountain or canyon bikes with a 3” shorter wheelbase and an engine that revs faster. The 2014 and older bikes feel like a boxer on his toes. Able to bounce and weave quickly. The DVT engine bikes and even the V4s bikes are more relaxed turners, not that raspy quick revving quick turning Multistrada that actually defined the bike itself. What once was a racy sport-bike on stilts, became a touring bike that can be sporty. Hymmmmmm. Less Multi i think. Then you add in the V4 with more weight, less gas mileage, the worst in class, no more sporty rubber, gone is the road 17” front and gone is the super sticky 190 rear capacity tire combo. A GS wannabee bike the Multistrada now is. So has the Multistrada lost its identity? Is it now a GS adventure bike or a GS in Red clothing? Or did Ducati push the Buyers over to the KTM 1290GT in the process of hunting GS buyers?

Excellent review. I have a 2020 1260 S, and I can't really fault anything here. It is a great ride and the best bike I've owned, and I've been riding 50 years.

mmmm I had new 2013 model and upgraded to the DVT in 2015 massive difference and certainly worth it. Been waiting for some key changes and though the 2018 model has some, I tend to agree its not worth the upgrade. Fantastic bike, so good I guess it's hard now to make any real significant improvements.

Great review. I think I am keeping my 2016 MS1200S, at least for the rest of 2017. I have ridden my bike at very high speeds but can’t recall the stability issues Ducati is trying to fix with longer wheelbase.

I feel the same way while nearing in on 40 years. Sports bikes just don't cut it anymore for touring and distance. Happy that I don't have to give up much by way of handling, power, brakes, while gaining a lot of comfort on the ADV bikes today.

I wonder why Ducati didn't fit the LH engine case from the XDiavel, to eliminate the exposed water hoses?
@HockeyVictory665 жыл бұрын
I still wish they would move to a shaft or belt drive. It seems strange that you have to do chain maintenance on a bike that cost $23k USD. Otherwise, the bike is amazing. I took a spin on one a month ago and power, comfort and handling were perfect.

Cheers for the review lads ,informative as usual . Personally I'm going to opt for a 950 multistrada as for me the the 1260 is overkill even though I like the extra power . I also based my choice after seeing your comparison test between the 1200 and the 950 at bruntingthorpe where the figures was not too far apart especially for real everyday use .

Serious possibility of replacing my '13 Multi GT (which I LOVE) with this. I'm ok with 'Lazier' handling since I've got the Tuono now also. Really like the TFT display, cruise control, extra torque, and dvt. Plus, Having a fresh Factory warranty puts my mind at ease. 😬 Although to match all the accessories on my GranTurismo i'm looking at a $23k bike 😩

Why do you call the superduke GT an adventure bike? Doesn't have the ergos or height of the others, just seems weird. The 1290 Superadventure S makes much more sense with the XR and strada. The GT fits more with stuff like the Ducati supersport, Z1000SX etc.
@neevesybikes7 жыл бұрын
Hi there. We're called the Super Duke GT a sports adventure bike, along with the Multistrada and S1000XR. All there are essentially 'superbikes on stilts, with 17" wheels, big performance, road bike-like handling and lots of toys and comfort. The Super Adventure's big wheels and knobbly tyres puts in more in the regular adventure category. Thanks for watching. Neevesy
@awrebyawe7 жыл бұрын
neevesybikes nah that's the Superadventure R model, the S doesn't have knoblies and is an evolution from the 1190 adventure, which had the superbike RC8 engine.
@neevesybikes7 жыл бұрын
It still has a 19" front wheel and dual purpose tyres, though...
@exothermal.sprocket6 жыл бұрын
"Super Duke GT" is the Super Duke R with a bigger tank and quarter fairing. Perhaps you're referring to the Super Adventure R and S? R having the 18/21 wheels and S having the 17/19 wheels. This is probably what you're referring to. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3TIh2Znpc-Md7M

Adventure bikes have always been my thing. In 1999 I went for a 5 week tour of England, Scotland and Irelands on my Honda Varadero. I saw hundreds of m'bikes, it was July/Aug, and all the british bikes were out. I went to 2 bike rallys, the "rock & blues" festival near Derby? and the Ace of spades rally near Edinburgh, to my surprise, out of hundres and hundreds of bikes I came across, only one was an adventure bike, an Africa twin...with spanish plates. I realised that for the brits, m'bike meant sports, Harleys/custom, a few touring and naked and zero, total zero adventure bikes. Here in southern Europe, Portugal, Spain, Italy, the adventure bike is and has been nr1 for decades. However, it appears to me, from recent years' videos, that the brits are slowly growing a likeing for the adventure segment. Is that true? Would I run across any adventure bikes if I was to do the same travel now?

You'd see loads of Gs's and quite a few retro's now. Traffic is getting worse and worse here in the uk and the roads are getting terrible so there's not much point in sports bikes here now, you still see quite a few but they're a dying breed...

I had a1290 ktm duke gt that I loved. However, it tracked even my buddy's nuts who is 6'3".. I believe that this bike can be adjusted to be a little lower, the duke was a little too high for me. Beside that, the gt was THE BEST MOTORCYCLE I HAVE OWNED.
