Couldn’t feel safe on it over 40 mph. They look cool , but there uncomfortable and without a front brake, it’s not a good idea to cruise the interstate. I got a full size 1500cc It’s fast, quick and needs back , front and engine brakes if I’m going to haul ass... Putting about town is ok for these machines, but pack up and go 700 miles...? My cousin gave me one- crossed a railroad track that was about 45 degrees from straight across. Front wheel fell into the space between the rail and the road. It followed the tracks for a few yards. He got off and took my bike. The rest of us got it turned around- tough job on a railway. I rode it home and kinda got to like it. He brought my bike and the title to the chopper and left both in my garage.

I came through the bike scene in the early eighties. Two stroke was king so that was our normal. RD, X7, KR1S, RG etc. Everything was sharp, responsive, handled well. A friend got a Harley, have a go he said.... handlebars on worn rubber mounts! Four speed gearbox! I got 100 meters, turned around and gave it back. Shite!! To be fair I got tired of broken rings, big ends worn, if my 350 LC didn’t do 115 MPH on my way to work I would be sorely disappointed. Got a Z650 and trashed it for years and it never let me down. I got 128 mph on the clock be day with the Z. Happy day for me.

The extended front end was actually an idea and developed by the USA national highway safety council. It was an attempt to move the driver of a motorcycle further back in the event of a collision. This idea did not take into consideration all of the engineering design cost , trial and error that went into each machine..no regard for rake, trail, castor, flex, wheelbase, stability, maneuverability, weight distribution,ect.. which is what always happens when goverment gets involved for our own good...

In 80s billions of Japanese young bikers (usually teenagers on their sports bikes like NSR, TZR, etc) died due to illegal street racings. So that in 90s those sports bikes had become less popular, then the 70s style choppers were being popular more than ever. Many of my friends used to have their choppers and some still have. But non of them died for his bike, so I suppose American choppers are much safer than Japanese sports bikes. But I’m not a big fan of choppers, I prefer British cafe racers, and my current bike is Ducati 350 desmo :p

Bikes sold new (domesticated) in Japan have a 400cc limit. To get any Harley in Japan takes a lot of money. If it helps, the number one status symbol in Japan is any Harley being their so expensive to import. among other things. Get a bike, learn to ride and join the fun!

If you look at Wikipedia, it's wrong: There's no such thing as a "suicidal shifter." A foot clutch is sometimes called a "suicide clutch," since a rider can kill himself if the bike's still in gear and his foot slips from the clutch at a busy intersection. A hand shifter, is called that, especially one mounted on the transmission, is sometimes called a jockey shift - if mounted on the tank, it's often referred to as "tank shift." Been been riding for over 50 years and testify that no seasoned rider ever called it a _suicide shifter._ - Copied pasted from Sturgis dot com: _"I've seen the term “suicide shifter” used in describing a plain old ordinary tank shift. Simple ignorance allows that term to be used. There is no such thing as a “suicide shifter.” Nobody has ever died because of using “hand shift.” There is however such a thing as a “Suicide Clutch.”"_

Right at 0:35 when that 2nd bike attempts a burn-out at the drag-strip, you can see the major flaw in the design. The front brake tries to lock up but doesn't have enough grab, not enough weight over it - but when it does manage to brake it compresses the front end and/or bends the "rigid" fork/headstock/frame assembly, and then the wheel begins to chatter back & forth between these two actions, completely destabilizing the entire front end and steering - This was done at a STAND-STILL - Could you just imagine braking hard into a corner of a half-ass highway PANIC stop?

Some of these are quite fine but some on the other hand.. I appreciate the effort put into building a bike of your own but holy shit, narrow vertical handlebars almost parallel with your arms and a fork so long it flexes like a ruler.. I get it's their bike and they built it the way they wanted it to be built but jesus some people've got poor taste.

As a kid thought these were cool. The many different styles are amazing and some of the ingenuity is crazy. But after getting into street riding I have to say. As incredible as some of these look. They look uncomfortable after 30 miles or so of riding. I like what I ride now. Each person has to learn what they like best to ride. 👍🏻
