I'm disabled since 2016, had to sell my Yamaha FJR1300 but bought the NC750XD to keep my passion active as long as I can. After almost two years I am very happy with this motorcycle, despite the low power it's really quick up to 75mph and very easy to control it on the country roads.

I'm 26, been riding my 2012 NC for over a year. Done everything on it - camping, commuting, canyon carving. This bike is a gem. Not only is it ridiculously frugal and easy to maintain, it can hang with every crowd. Want to go cruising with some Harleys? The 270 degree crank and low RPM ceiling will have you enjoying the back roads at near-idle revs. Your sportbike riding buddies want to go blasting down some mountain roads? It's zippy and nimble enough to hang, crank that throttle wide open and dance from corner to corner. It's not the fastest bike, not the prettiest bike, nor is it the loudest, most expensive or exotic. It's a bike, and a brilliant one at that. Take it around town or around the world, it'll get you there with a smile on your face and that's what riding is all about.

There's something to say about eliminating shifting responsibilities. It frees up some part of the control experience to focus on other parts of the riding experience that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. It's all preference of course but it's not as simple as a "loss" in riding as many make it out to be.

Well, I agree as far as that is probably what Honda intended this bike to be...but it actualy is capeable of MUCH more if you give it a try. Took it on a nice extended Weekend Tour to a Beginners Track Training Weekend and I was realy impressed how well I was able to keep up. Considering the second weakest bike was at roughly 90 HP (and realy everyone dashed away from me on the straits) the realy easy handling made up for that pretty well. All in that 4 Day trip had me about 200km in the saddle and I could not have been happier. On a side note: Apart from Commuting the other strong point of this bike is twisty roads. I live at the edge of the Eifel and those tight curvy Backroads are just perfect for the 750X with DCT. So, when all is said and done...take this bike for a serious testride and it may well surprise you... ...And now of to get a VFR1200F with DCT to see what this transmission is realy capeable of... :-)

I have been riding bikes most of my life, racing motocross in the 70's. I have a 2011 Harley Heritage for cruising and recently bought a new 2016 NC 700 dct for commutes. This bike is fantastic. Very versatile. I set it up as a adventure bike. Skid plate, crash bars, madstad windshield, Shinko 705's, barkbusters, etc. I understand how some people say it is a bland bike, but I am older and this bike is as fun as you want to make it. Another big plus is my DCT was $6700 OTD. Just my .02. Also, great review Zack.

overboost7667 A friend of mine sold his large American cruiser and bought a NC700X DCT a few years ago. He replaced the seat with an aftermarket seat and rides it everywhere. To work, on weekend jaunts and multi state rides. He says it's the best move he ever made. The only thing he misses is the belt drive.

Ex soldier I heard got his a bit more of his life back because of the DCT after amputation. I also know of a couple of guys who don't have great mobility and this bike is a blessing. As a commuter it works perfectly.

I commute everyday in heavy Central Jersey traffic, park at the park and ride, drop my helmet in the frunk and get on the bus to NYC everyday. The frunk will also take a gym bag or a six pack, a bottle of wine and gallon of milk with room to spare. As pointed out the DCT D mode give efficiency priority but senses your inputs and shifts accordingly. The riding position is comfortable enough to ride all day. My only gripe is, it didn't come with the center stand.

I have over 40 years riding experience. I have ordered a new NC750x because arthritis in my hands has got so bad that operating a clutch lever is extremely painful. A friend of mine lost his left arm, and he rides one as well. Top marks Honda!

I have the NC750J or otherwise known as the NM4 Vultus. Delighted with it and I must say that the acceleration is like a slingshot from the lights, with it's double clutch there is no dropping of speed as it goes through the gears, it's linear...love it...UK Biker

The ultimate California commuter bike. Auto tranny for 405 traffic, smallish and easy to lane split with, lots of storage and stupidly good fuel economy. Probably not the most exciting choice though. At least they went with a 270 degree crank, so will at least sound nice if you put an aftermarket exhaust on it.

This bike is awesome 👌 it's great for commuting. It's comfortable and the ride is smooth. Best part you can focus on the road. I'm 5hrs away from Buffalo. I rode my 2012 NCX DCT. Awesome 👍 ride. Most amazing was the gas. Unbelievable. I rode in D once the traffic cleared. But in traffic I switched between Sport and Manual. Before owning the NC I only rode scooter's. I had several Honda scooter's. Then in 2012 I seen the NC at dealership test drove it and bought it the next day. It's my first motorcycle. I'll never sell it, plus it was bike of the year in 2012. Great way to bring back the automatic motorcycle. Now my next target is the Honda Africa

I have plenty of experience on regular bikes but since getting my NC700S with DCT I'm just not very interested in a regular manual transmission on a bike anymore. It's a godsend in traffic and still plenty of fun in the canyons or even on a track! I only wish Honda would release something like a CBR650F with a DCT, although I'm not sure if I'm willing to give up that frunk just to get a bit more power

Great review as always. I'm an older dude who grew up on motorcycles and I've owned over 20 of them. I bought the 750x in 2021 and will never sell it, ever. Best comuter and all arounder I've riden. BTW I absolutely LOVE REV ZILLA and buy all my gear and accessories from that great company. With the tank and tail bags I can make decent grocery runs and even moto camp.

It's not quite the most accurate parallel you've drawn. No one poured gas into a bowl and whipped it up with a blender, pouring it down the throat of a pre-FI bike. The experience is largely the same with carbs and FI if both are functioning well. Auto vs. shifting is a preference and both have merits. Taking away the function of shifting and gear selection frees up a rider to focus on perhaps some other neglected experiences in riding that would otherwise go unnoticed. It's preference, another option like Zach said. Would I chose auto? Maybe. But not as my primary bike. There's pleasure in shifting gears and learning to do it well. There's also something fun and different about autos.

been riding nc750x 2014 manual with ABS..suspension and brakes could use an upgrade..heard suspension is upgraded in the 2016 model onwards..could do with dual discs at the front..but hey saves on brake pads and discs haha..also very frugal to maintain..and easy! spark plugs located just below radiator no need remove tank etc..coolant reservoir also easy to reach no need remove fairings..air filter needs some fairing removal just in front the storage compartment..best part for me is the torque and fuel consumption..

Imho this bike with manual transmission and also the cb500x are great. The incredible gas mileage as well as a torquey low stressed engine should see a very long service life.

I owned a manual 700S for a couple of years. Initially interested in the DCT as my left ankle doesn't work, but we can't get that option in my country. These are very under-rated bikes. Actually very good cornering although budget suspension and the frame will flex if pushed hard at speed. Nevertheless, the CoG is only 2" above a line between the wheel spindles - very quick to change direction through S bends and easy to handle the weight at low speed. A well ridden "boring" NC will give most sports bikes a scare through sub 80 MPH corners. Excellent MPG, hardly any maintenance - valve clearance checks are at 15,000 miles and often need nothing doing. Good brakes. Have done several 600 mile days (once the saddle was replaced with one from Seat Concepts). Tyres last well and the storage space is extremely useful.

I own a black NC700X DCT and ride it up and down the coast and from California to the midwest. It is a very durable easy bike to ride. However, it does not have a comfortable seat and vibrates too much at high speeds. Thus, I made mods: I have a taller wind-screen, thicker footpads, thicker hand-grips, and a customized seat. As for experience, it is much more fun then dealing with a clutch and it takes the curves really well. I have ridden many clutched bikes, and I love the NineRT, but this is more fun especially in the city.

I bought one in 2015, non DCT, it has nearly 30,000 miles on it with zero issues. Average of 71mpg it's really a great commuter.

I think the reason this gets so much hate is too many people are trying to compare it to other motorcycles, but when you start to compare it to similarly powered maxi scooters, this is a way better and cooler option in my opinion

That "frunk" is good for storing anti-theft alarm for disk brake, some other things like a jacket, a bottle of water. On other motorcycles you need a backpack or an ugly top box, or side cases that will make the bike wider and not so good for lane splitting like you have to do here in Europe.

It's a great motorcycle for the genre that it is. Would last forever, with good maintenance. For me? Not an "only" motorcycle, but a very very good 2nd bike. The updated styling on the latest NC700X is MILES better than it was originally. It's a good looking bike. The tail-light and subframe is much improved. ***Nov 2017 update: NC750X coming to the States finally. I'd take this over the Versys 650 simply because the engine has a v-twin bark and character and Kawasaki has a vibrating raspy engine.

2015 CTX 700N DCT ABS was my 1st bike and after 2 years I still love it. I just put Michelin Road 6’s on that really helps on uneven roads. One big plus of automatic is no clutch to pull all day long which can cause carpel tunnel or just hand soreness. I wish it had Cruise Control but a Crampbuster helps for long rides. Also wish it had floorboard pedals.

I know this is a one year old review but I just had to say, you did a great job with it, straight forward and useful info., with positive feedback about the features of the bike. So many people try to review bikes on video and all I hear or seeis info on their personal or fav bike versus what motor cycle they are actually riding when doing the review or they do not ride the bike in the manner it was meant to be driven. No one will be happy trying to put a full dressed cruiser into a sharp corner at 75mph, but you did none of that, so again, great job.

I personally love this bike. I have had several bikes and they're all gone now (needed money after a job loss) and I have been wanting to get back into it lately and this is the bike for me. I really dont care for automatic. I just like commuting with it and taking it out to ride some winding roads at a moderate speed sometimes. I love it and cant wait to get it.

Saw this bike for the first time on the road not long ago (I’m a new rider so it’s more accurate to say, the first time I “noticed”) I thought it was really cool looking. I like that it has that ADV bike styling, but isn’t overly ruggedized looking. For me, as a moto commuter myself, the home run features of this bike is the built in storage cubby and amazing fuel economy. Sure you can get panniers and tank/tail bags for any other bike you’d commute on, but I love that it’s inconspicuous and incorporated into the design. I have a Ninja 650 and find that to be an amazing commuter as well yet allowing me to ride sporty on the weekends or after work so no complaints from me, but this Honda is an absolutely amazing option if you can’t quite bring yourself to hop onto a scooter.

Well done Zac. You nailed it. It is not this or that. It is just another option. If it gets more people to ride motorcycles I am (also) OK with tat. I am (economical reasons) a single motorcycle at a time. So next time I am looking to replace my current 02 R1150RT-P (civilian retrofit as I am not “authority”) I will be in the market for a no clutch lever motorcycle. Hopefully one of the main manufacturers decide it makes sense and start offering larger bore machines in this configuration. I am set on getting one 1200cc or above whenever that happens. This is a fantastic all-purpose bike. Rode a new 2017 750 DCT couple of days ago across Croatia 250km there and back. Fuel consumption is ridiculously low, comfortable body position. I even think to switch my fz1 over to this one.

I have the ctx700 dct. Same main components. I honestly dig the automatic vs manual. One less thing to distract you from the road. And it's just pure awesome off the line, especially vs supersports. I always get 50 mpg. Never once had what Honda claims. Oh yeah... Traffic doesn't bother me anymore 😏

Great review brother! I ride an R1150RS, and I love it, truly love it! This is my 3rd R1150RS, and for me, it is the ideal long haul mile cruncher. It handles amazingly well, (no, really, it does, once you get the Beemer riding attitude dialed in), has awesome brakes, and after you get the Bar Backs on it, it is the perfect ergonomic set up for my 5'10", 155lb frame....but I've been thinking about a smaller, lighter bike, for though I am in reasonably good shape for a 62 year old dude, the 54 years of riding a motorcycle, with a pretty good number of "get offs", some of them high speed, 120mph+ "get offs", and they have taken their toll, so it would be nice, too, to have a smaller, lighter bike, (though my RS is 490lbs without fuel, which is pretty light for a big displacement motorcycle!!), that would easier to navigate city streets on. You provided a really great review, and I appreciate it, a lot.... Thanks, brother! I hope you have a great summer, with lots of memorable rides!

Hi JB re your post about maybe replacing the R1150RS with a Honda NC750 or NC700 DCT. I ride an R1200RT and it is an awesome machine. However I also have an NC700 DCT and I love that bike. I am 63 and fit but often I just want to go lighter. The Honda tours really well also and is very comfortable on a longer haul. Just needs some heated grips when I get around to it. However my wife is taking the Honda over and I like it so much I'm thinking about trading her Honda 300 in for another low mileage NC. So if you are still considering it just do it. You will like the machine a lot. Also it is the most stable low speed bike I have ever ridden. It just has such low center of gravity you can ride it at a slow walk and no wobble at all.

I own a NC750S manual. The same bike in naked style. X is adv, S is naked, Integra is scooter and the new X-Adv is the adv/scooter. The best MPG I got from it was 88. But if you don't ride like a retired old person the average milage is around 74 and if you push it hard it goes as low as 60. The speedo doesn't show over 199 and if you can find a long enough downhill, and get in complete tuck it goes over it(kph ofc). The speedo shows about 6% more than gps speed. The real gps speed I have seen max is 192kph(120 mph) which would have been indicated as 204kph if it could. For the rev counter colors, the main color can be selected and the indicators are fixed. Say you have selected white for the main counter. If you ride economically the rev counter goes green, if you are riding "normal" it goes light blue, if you are pushing it, it goes to main color(in this case white) and after the redline(which you can also select) it goes red.

Nice bike. I went to a local dealer here in California and found a 2016 NC700x DCT ABS. Bike basically brand new, had only 2 miles on it. Blue book for bike was $5904. Dealer wanted $9460.00 out the door. That price included tax, license, registration fees and mark up dealers tend to charge. I think that price is high, what do you think?

My '14 NC700X is my "other" bike and I've never owned a more useful one (if you can apply that term to a motorcycle). My only complaint is the bargain-basement suspension. You question the economics of spending $1000 to upgrade a $7500 bike, but since the rest of the bike works so well, you do it.

The aftermarket seats are noticeably better and there is a simple modification to remove the seat tilt and get another 2 inches to the seat height. I am 6’4” and it’s perfect for me.

Re: Automatic. If someone does not drive for pleasure like commuting - it's perfect. If you ride on Sundays don't even bother. From my experience, I loved my geared bike away from traffic on Sundays rides - but I hated it when commuting. Now I have NC DCT and it is opposite but I am getting used to NC manual mode and it is OK. The best is that in an automatic mode you can still shift gears with buttons so downshifting is possible in any mode when needed. My 90% rides are to work so overall I am more happy with DCT bike than with a manual one and my leisure rides are getting better. What I can advise anyone before buying X version, please do try a sport version I think it is 750s. I had a chance to try it for a whole week after I purchased my one and I think if had to chose between those 2 I would go for S. It's not because it is sporty - they both perform almost identical - it's just lower lighter and handling is much easier.

Good stuff! I would expect better fuel economy, though. I had a 2013 650cc Suzuki V-Strom from new for 5 years, and it averaged 25 kilometres/Litre (58.8 MPG U.S. / 70.6 MPG U.K. Gallon), but gave me 31 kilometres/Litre (72.9 MPG U.S. / 87.5 MPG U.K. Gallon) on a motorway / highway. That was almost all 2-up, too, with luggage. I guess a lower revving engine is not always less thirsty.

Nice review. I really wanted to ride this at AIM last weekend. They only had the DCT version available and it was booked during all the slots that I was free. Rode the VFR1200X instead and was very unimpressed just like you. Now I have to find a test ride somewhere before deciding between this and the FJ-09, which was fantastic.

The tachometer will go from red to green to indicate how aggressive you are with the throttle. Green for economical riding. Same with the Accord sedan.

Been considering getting a NC700X DCT or Africa Twin DCT as a second bike for an adventure bike. I love that Honda offers an automatic transmission and it is the main reason I would go Honda. My issue with the NC700X as an adventure bike (which it is billed as) is the location of the gas tank; I'd have to remove luggage straddling the pillion to refuel the bike. As for commuting, I would say the NC700X DCT is the best commuter bike for the money. I ultimately went with a Zero because it is lower maintenance, I can recharge it at home, and I preferred the look of it more. I don't love the look of the NC700X. I could live with it, but it doesn't scream "buy me". Guess that is a preference thing.

Yeah, I was going to comment that if you want a specialist bike for the 95% of riding that we actually do (commuting) then it would be hard to go past a Zero. You made the comment so I don't have to. One note though, Zeros start at under 7000 in the USA at the moment. If you live in California (Where this video is shot), then they start at 6000, and if you live in the right County, they start at 5000. So if you live there, then buying the petrol bike is going to cost several thousand more up front and then more on top for petrol, oil, filters and service. I dont have the use of my left ankle as I am an amputee. This bike however does nothing for me. Perhaps the African Twin might. I iwsh they installed a clutch lever so riders could, if they chose to use the clutch to feather the clutch while giving some gas to ease low speed maneuvering. This DCT really hampers this very useful technique. Would the inclusion of an optional clutch lever hurt the bike??? The low RPMs suck too. Rather have the 700 to 900 Tracer.

I like these commute videos you do bro, been watching a bunch of them. Thinking about getting a motorcycle but I want to start off small. Never drove a cycle before, always had a quad as a kid.. I like this Honda cuz starting off I'd rather learn to drive one first before going to a manual trans and having to worry about that while learning the basics. Any other autos out there you have videos of or would recommend over this one?

It's a nice bike for sure. I'm a commuter in Houston and when I decided to grab a new bike earlier this year, it really came down to the Versys 650, 1000 and NC700x. Ended up with the Versys 650 due to weight for the 1000 version and the Honda dealer wanting way too much for the NC700 (was a 2015 in 2017 and he wanted $9000 for the bare bones non-DCT version).

This bike reminds me a lot of the BMW offerings in the Eff series and the funny standout F650 single from 20 years ago the GS and the CS. storage under the "tank" petrol tank under the seat etc. Even the styling I think is similar. But it is true to say that Honda invented the storage under the "Tank" with the 1975 Goldwing.

Yes, it comes with a small plastic coated cable you attach underneath where you fill the gas tank. Then when you close the seat the helmet will be locked. Not the handiest but it works. I wish all bikes had some kind of storage like this, I’m spoiled now( lol) A place for your phone , jacket, gloves, groceries, etc.

True. Not that big of a deal though - I've been on a few multi day trips with my NC750X. It was cumbersome at first, but soon I figured out optimal strapping configuration - then just loosened straps and slided the bag forward. Fuel economy also helps (don't have to fill up often).

Having ridden five versions of these bikes, there isn't a bad one. In my view the best is the cheapest (and the one I bought): the 750S manual, which is noticeably sportier and better handling than the X. Hope you get them in the U.S. soon.

From what I've seen, the rev colors are to let you how economically you're riding. Green is "Doing good", Yellow is "What are you doing?", Red is "What the fuck, slow down".

Dct is looked down even on cars, including me. But, that was in the past because I've come to love it. For all intents and purposes it is an auto but it does shift as quick or even quicker than a human.

I really like what I'm seeing. I'm just about to start my drivers licence on heavy bikes, and been fairly set on a Honda Transalp because of its off track possibilities. Then I found this bike for sale(2016 750) and took a look at it. Now I'm fairly confused because I likes it more than the Transalp(2006) I've looked at. Got to make a decision soon.

Over 3200 miles. Average Miles per UK gallon 83.6, best 94.1. About 75 mpg at 70mph. And it will go quickly enough if you wind the throttle open. This is for a 2017 NC750X DCT model.

Wondering how does DCT transmission compares to a manual transmission when it comes to power delivery and overall performance in the similar category of motorcycles. Also, if you might be able to shed some light on fitting electronic paddle shifters or air shifters on a sports bike like Ninja 400 and essentially achieving a fun automatic bike for less than the cost of NC700x. I'm looking at DCT's/Semi-automatic transmissions due to a problem in my left ankle which doesn't allow me to use my toes effectively to shift gears. For that reason I've been riding mostly standard motorcycles with heel-toe shifters. I rely on my forefoot to shift gears in both directions. I've outgrown my old 150cc - 250cc bikes and now considering an upgrade to a 400cc Ninja or a similar Honda CBR300R and fit it with an aftermarket electronic shifter like ShiftFX or Pingel Electric Easy Shift Kit. Any thoughts?
