I’m an American and in the market for an SUV. I’ve been considering hybrid models, but have mostly been just watching international reviews of vehicles like the RAV and Tucson and Forester. I have found that each region, even if they get pretty much exactly the same vehicle, has different tastes and perspectives and that is super helpful for me because it’s difficult in the states to just go out and test drive these cars. I really enjoyed this review and appreciate how thorough you were

The turn signals are not low, just look at a regular sedan and compare it with this one. You will notice that it will be at the same height. I've read the same complaint about the Venza, was parked next to it, and also with that one, the turn signal are on the same height as a average sedan.

Tough call. The toyota is more efficient, has a spare tire, and possibly can fit more items based on it's larger opening. On the other hand, the Hyundai is more refined, has all the tech, and is probably a better ride as well. I think I'd have to test drive both of them and then decide, but the lack of a spare tire bothers me a lot. Maybe the American version will have one.

I just pick up a Rav4 Prime and it rides amazing with very good horse power in fact the fastest in this segment when it comes to a plug in model which is some what different to a standard hybrid. It's great to drive on all battery mode from any where of 43 miles to 52 miles everyday without using any gas. Highly recommend the Rav4 Prime. Worth every penny.

I concur; same great experience. I bought my Rav4 Prime 2 months ago now with about 2000 miles. In my opinion, if you are considering a hybrid with the inherent stop-start engine, the "all electric" drive of the Prime is the no-brainer choice; no engine for over 40 miles. Hate to say it as a Korean myself, but although I was really hyped on the new Tucson, seeing it live, it's nowhere as good as the concept car it was based on. I really wish Hyundai made it exactly like the concept. I ended up with a Rav4 Prime XSE. To me, it just looks amazing and I love the rugged look of it. Feels very much like a compact truck. But, I would have really preferred Hyundai's tech over Toyota. The other thing people should know is the Rav4 uses a dual port injected engine, which is really good for longevity. I think the Hyundai hybrid engine is still GDI, which will have poor long term performance.

Its obvious you're first view of the Tucson sold you and you sure spent MUCH more time on impressions of it. I think the RAV is 2019 design and the Tucson like the Sorrento are newer. I would rather hear more about power train stats like HP and Torque, transmission difference, mileage city-hi way, tire size, difference in brake distancing, measurements of the inside features (like your head was hitting the brace of the Tucson's back while seated there), safety features like camera coverages, price differences, even if over there, which one is more expensive? The only big difference is the rear window wiper's location explained. Thank you, much appreciated. Stay safe.

The review was nice and clean, congrats for that. I would also like to see in a review the details mentioned by the John above. As for John, I have been to Toyota for a test drive and the test drive car was the 2019 model compared to the 2021 models available for showcase but there is barely any difference between them. In my country (Romania) the base model for a Rav4 is 36k Euros including taxes where as with 37k Euros you get the fully loaded Tucson which is also the plug-in hybrid version. I don't understand why there is such a big price difference. As for warranty Hyundai offers 5 years warranty for everything on the car, without engine mile limitations and 8 years for the Li-Ion battery.

You did miss showing that the RAV4 also has lane monitoring, and that the cargo liner can be flipped around so that the hard surface is uppermost (to avoid scoring the felt of the other side, if transporting hard goods).The cargo liner can also be lowered by about an inch. As the consumer honestly I think you have to take into account about long term about the car running cost and durability issues . Now days in the current market they are many car companies offer their hybrid build products and cool features some even better than toyota. But from my point of view I will be thinking which car manufacturers has better hybrid technology experiences and skills in regards of their hybrid models. Especially toyota has more then 10 years experiences in their hybrid market back in early days and that proven their successful marketing and outstanding hybrid technology qualities assurance In the other hand will Hyundai able to be as confident as Toyota in hybrid technologies oh well time will tell? Therefore as for running cost and car durability from long term performance definitely toyata has better advantage then Hyundai At the end if day as the consumer you have to think about which car has the best low running cost and less problems to handle. I had a rav4 2020 cruiser AWD version this year in Australia. It is not perfect luxury car if you want to compare similar hybrid models on the market. But overall I have no problem with my car it is a good family SUV love all the safety features that toyota rav4 has offer. Good efficiency a tank can run 900km. Good offer low cost package for cap price services and battery warranties. So I am pretty for what I pay for.

I wonder what the update of these two hybrids would be in 10+ years... I want to recommend the Tucson but a 1.6L turbo after 10+ years is worrisome in terms of longevity and reliability... maybe the Rav4 is more analog and boring/uninspiring at times but most likely outlasts any other model in its respective segment.

Can you explain why a 1.6L turbo would be worrisome after 10 years? And which engine would be a better for an SUV like the Tucson?
@I_discovered_civilization
@I_discovered_civilization 2 жыл бұрын
@@tatertots2395 Naturally aspirated engines last longer and have less moving parts versus a turbo engine, OEM or not. So the reason why Toyota has rock solid legitimate reliability is due to the way Toyota approaches manufacturing and also how they implement change incrementally over time. Their engineers don’t over engineer most times and Toyota’s Kaizen philosophy(continuous improvement) is what helps propel and keeps Toyota on the top in terms of value and reliability and proven success. Every other manufacturer just doesn’t understand or gets it, whereas Toyota always finds the correct approach to deliver customers a superior product compared to their competitors. We can look back at Toyota engines and their hybrid platform and see a track record of success. You can’t say the same for Hyundai or any other manufacturer.

The Kia Optima I had to take in for warranty work multiple times. The Nissan 350Z was a nightmare to work on(changing out alternator required a radiator drain and removing the radiator and removing taillights required removing the rear bumper which required removing the rear hatch gasket…). Hyundai and Kia are exactly taking the same strategy of what Samsung and LG took 20 years ago over japanese competitors. It is certainly the short matter of time at the moment, and we are surely experiencing the middle of transition stepping over the design wise and EV and Hydrogen. Only the lack is their conventional patrol engine capability against japanese big two companies. They have shifted quickly to what they can do better than their competitors and we will see the big reap so they will be the main player in the auto industry in the future.

The Tucson pricing is very close to the Rav4 Hybrid. Which to me was quite a surprise. Between the Hbyrid XLE Premium and the similarly equipped Tucson Hybrid Limited, the difference is measure in a few hundreds of dollars. Where the Tucson wins in the warranty - Toyota apparently don't have confidence in their own vehicles! In the early days Hyundai has a fearful reputation for falling apart and transmission problems. Those days appear to be a distant memory.

@@davidgapp1457 I don't know if Hyundai issues are a distant memory. The 2019 to 2021 model Tucson has a problem with it's brakes where it can start a fire even when you are not driving it. It has been advised not to park the car in the garage or close to any house until the recall is fix. The only issue I have with the hybrid version of 2022 Tucson is the turbocharged 1.6 engine. After 100k miles, turbo engines becomes problematic if we have to go with it's history. But maybe pairing the turbo engine with electric means the engine don't get used as much and will actually mean that it will prolong the turbo engine's life of up to 150k or even 200k before it becomes problematic. Time will tell. 🧐

I compared the 2022 Toyota Premium Rav4 Hybrid, the Honda CR-V Hybrid, and the Hyundai Tucson Limited Hybrid. I chose the Tucson! I've been driving it for a month, and the only complaints I have are, having to take my eyes off the road momentarily if I want to adjust anything, so I've learned to put my fingers on the bottom of the vents to adjust, or wait until I'm at a signal. The safety features, are a bit over the top, but I actually wanted all of it. You can't be too safe, right? If the car in from out me leaves, it tells me to go. I didn't know about the air quality control, or the seat belt holder. It IS a luxury compact SUV, as far as I'm concerned. It's much more peaceful, and smooth, and the Bose Speakers sound amazing! The panoramic sunroof is simply gorgeous! I've fallen in love with my Tucson!! I recommend getting the white pearl with black leather interior. At night when the ambient lights are on, with center console, it looks and feels mysteriously marvelous!!💗🌸
