hello I have a motorguide xi3 and I wanted to update with elite fs9 after 52% there was a problem and now my elite fs wogule cannot see the motorquide plz help what should i do

I ended up with the same although my upgrade attempt was with an Xi5. About 10% into the upgrade I just got the message “upgrade failed” and from that point onwards the elite fs can’t even see the motor and hence trying to upgrade again won’t even be possible to attempt.

@@matsolarsson have you been able to restart everything? is this through a module or the Elite FS downloaded on the SD card? sometimes this happens if you download the wrong file off the website

@@hookedntravel In my case i'm still stuck where the trolling motor and the Elite FS does not see each other. It's like the gateway kit does not exist. The Elite reports nothing on NMEA2k. I have tried resetting the trolling motor per an instruction received earlier (pulling negative cable for an excess of 30 seconds) but without any improvement. The steps i did for installing SWUP 22 was in line with www.motorguide.com/us/en/owners-resources/xi-software-updates.html and the procedures followed was per the Lowrance support using an older Elite FS SW. Downloading the file felt somewhat strange with just downloading a clear text file unlike other downloads that comes with checksums and zipped archives but if MotorGuide proves the update file in this way what can i do but follow this?

When my xi5 is on autopilot and i adjust the heading out wanders sporadically. Sometimes worse that others. Could this update help with that? If not, what is the reason for the update?

An update could fix that. If it’s doesn’t then it’s the GPS sensor has to be replaced. I’ve had it happen to one motor of mine

Mi xi5 va perfecto el único problema es que al año de tenerlo el pedal dejó de funcionar y no he conseguido hacer que funcione solo me queda la actualización tu crees que funcionará?? Haber como es el servicio técnico en España pero no creo que me manden ningún dongle para actualizar 😢. Con el mando si va bien no hay problema es solo el maldito pedal😂

you can try to update it via a lowrance unit. But it's probably unrelated to the motor itself. Replacing the batteries and making sure it's synced first before trouble shooting the motor. The foot pedal may be the issue.

you have to contact motorguide for the dongle update or if your lowrance unit can read the motor guide with the gateway connection through the nmea2000 port you can update via SD card

I don’t have a Lowrance update so how can i update my Xi5

besides the lowrance the other option is to call the motor guide customer service and they'll send you the update dongle for your unit. You need the two numbers for it like on the video. This is how this update on this video was done through a dongle. I had two xi5 and neither of them I could get done through the lowrance. You have to return the dongle afterwards.

sometimes they add a feature, but mostly fix bugs that users will encounter with the computer and GPS module in the motor.

@@hookedntravel I let mine go today with my trade in. After I calibrated the compas (which wasn't in the directions) I never any issues with it. I owned for several years (probly 5). I wanted another one for my new boat, but there are none available for the one I needed. I absolutely loved it. Waiting on the Ghost to get here. 🤞

@@hookedntravel I ended up going with a 60" Ghost. I've only had it out once, so far. My first impression is it's a beast, for sure. I didn't calibrate the spot lock yet and it's been dead on. I do like the deploy and stow better than the xi5. The head not turning is weird and the lights on it are blinding at night. I'm not a fan of the pedal being the main controller and not being wireless. Pros and cons to both. The xi5 wins in cost, ease of use and compatibility to more units (fish finders). Just my opinion.

@@hookedntravel I never could get my Xi5 to work properly.. i had to give up on it and switch to the ghost but unfortunately the 60' shaft is too short.. just couldnt win.. but I couldnt stand all the issues the motorguide gave me for years with no solution.
