Awsome! I have the same kayak and thinking about doing the same thing. Do you have any regrets? Is there anything you wish you knew before hand? How stable is it with the motor? Does the spot lock work well? Im thinking of using it to fish under bridges

Yeah I got the scupper plugs but I’m going to keep my drive plug. I didn’t have it weather sealed properly

Nice build! Curios if water was standing because you had no scupper plugs or because the extra weight of the motor on the bow? I have 132 Predator and debating if I should get one of these motors.

I got more water on deck when I used the diy drive plug . When I bought the old town drive plug I was good. I only get water on deck when I stand but it drains almost instantly. I don’t get any water on my deck when sitting and moving from spot to spot with motor. Hope this helps!

@@YakLocal Absolutely! Thank you. And follow up question: I'm thinking about setting up the battery 50-60 amps lipo battery in front hatch. Do you think it would be too much weigh combined (motor and battery) up front?

Yes I would highly suggest putting in in a dry box in the rear, but maybe try it first! If it’s fine in front go for it!

Yeah one of the downfalls of the Bigwater/predator the rear space is not big at all. I don’t have the landing gears, I have a 13x16 blackpak and my 100ah on the rear. No rooms for anything else

Thanks brother. I am going to be pulling the trigger on this motor build. A couple things I would like to know from you though are how does the motor work for you in the front during heavy chop? I fish the Puget Sound in Washington State and it gets pretty knarly at times. Would the motor work best up front or in the back do you think? And do I have to have my PDL drive out when I am underway with the Motir or can I just have it raised. Cause I don’t mind trolling with the PDL drive but it’s getting back to the top of the troll that I would like to use the motor for.

Where did you get the thru hull deck fittings for the cable which attaches to the foot release pedal? Will they prevent water from entering your hull?

I just drilled a hole same diameter of cable and I haven’t had any issues, no water no problem, some people use rubber grommets

Don’t take this the wrong way. I just got my bigwater pdls and I love them. But if your not going to use the drive why not just have bought the autopilot?

I got the Bigwater in January, no plans to get the motor haha. But I also do ocean fishing and surf launches so having the pdl is great for me. I will definitely still use my pdl from time to time. Plus the autopilot is only 45lb thrust which is still not bad. This motor is 55lb and on the Bigwater it gets great speed and handles great

Just use a eye let bolt instead and add washers so it spins freely and your good to go

I do. The trick was tin foil. Lay the foil flat on top of opening. And tape down. Then use finger to indent around drive hole. Then transfer foil to cardboard and cut. That was easiest for me
