i also shut off the fuel petcock whenever the engine is off, especially at a gas station. HOWEVER, both with the stock cam and aftermarket cam, my stock carb'ed TC88 always had a labored hot start. But take it from me for doing this 12 years now, if you want it to fire up right away and the engine is still hot, just hold the throttle open just a CRACK while cranking it over. She should fire right up. If the engine is warm, give it a throttle twist, then crack it and crank. And if the engine is cold, then full Choke should work perfectly. And if it's REALLY COLD, or has sat for many months, you'll need to give it a couple throttle twists, then full Choke while cranking. Hope this helps ya out brother💪🏻

Heres the simple problem. Your rubber fuel line going to your carburetor is up against the rear engine head. Being the fuel lone is touching the head, once the fuel stops flowing when you shut your engine off it vaporizes all the gasoline. Use a longer rubber fuel line and make sure its at least one inch away from that rear engine head.

I'll try this with my 88' Softail. Did you check to see if when this happens you actually have SPARK ? I'm having problems (seems to be) the Cam Censor gets hot inside that cone and looses spark. I've heard talk about people having troubles with these CS's. Even the S&S Cam Plates on their ignition upgrade kit. Funny you mentioned this happening when your getting gas,, because that's where mine last failed on me! I had to have the damn thing brought home on a flatbed. (Totally degrading non the less). Next day no start. I had a extra CS I put in and she fired right up. Take a look.. see if you have spark if it acts up again. Hope you git' er 👍

Works when he has no fuel, in the bowl, nothing to do with spark the damn float needle is set too high or getting stuck and dumping fuel into the bike while it's off!

When I saw his video I knew immediately what was going on. That is caused by the rubber fuel line that comes from the pet cock valve when its touching the rear cylinder head because the fuel line between the cylinder and the head is touching. When its running the fuel is moving so the fuel stays cool, but when you shut the engine off the gasoline in the rubber fuel line that is touching the rear engine head vaporizes all the gasoline in the fuel line. Pry the fuel line away from the head about two inches or install fuel line that is longer so it wont touch.

@@aaronratliff9576 You bet, these rubber lines, people think that if the part you see comeing from the pet cock valve is away from the engine head and then they clamp the rubber line to the carb inlet, but never realize the middle of the rubber line is against that hell hot rear cylinder head

Ignition? Have you checked the nose cone pick up module?

That's not a fix it's a work around, your float is sticking and or set too high, your gas is not boiling in the carb!

@@Hoss5678 I read all that shit your float is sticking or set too high, I work on bikes daily! I never shut my fuel off, ever and never have this problem, there's shit in your carburetor that didn't get cleaned, float height is easy to set let the float tip up as you lean the carb over backwards you need no fancy tools just your eyeballs and a small screwdriver, when the float flips up it should be level with the carbs bottom edge, any higher is a fatter mix and causes your problem, any lower she will be lean!

@@Hoss5678 fuel doesn't boil in the gas tank right above the hot engine you adjusted the float wrong or missed something in the carb, you can type fancy shit all day nobody I know has brought me a bike with boiling fuel in the carb 😂🤣

@@Hoss5678 I lied 1 time I had boiling fuel, the line was ran right above the back cylinder and they had no gasket between the engine and carb, that was several years ago and again, a mistake the owner made!
