I'll give you my personal experience. I bought a CB200X 2 months back, after watching tons of videos and reviews and comparisons with other bikes, and the conclusion I found on almost every video was that it was overpriced (due to xpulse sitting in the same ballpark). I didn't agree to that idea and I looked down deeper in my specific use case. It was good mileage, comfort, light weight ,refinement and most importantly, handling and braking. I found out that the cb200x was way better in these departments than the xpulse, as I had test ridden xpulse alot and I never liked it's handling and comfort over long distances, added with not enough braking power under load. For me massive front wheel just didn't make sense for normal road use. So despite all the odds I went ahead and bought the cb200x and let me tell you, I'm 100% satisfied and proud of my purchase. That's the motorcycle I crave for when I miss riding. The easy going nature of it just fits me so well that it has become a part of myself. So my advice to everyone reading this is please don't reject your ideal bike just because of expert opinions, have test ride and feel the machine, you may find that your perfect motorcycle is the one everyone complained about. Spec sheet goes in dustbin once you buy the motorcycle. So carefully plan your use case, and if a motorcycle doesn't fit your use case but you got it just because of others opinion, you'll regret it.

Same here. I previously had an RTR 160 4v and wanted something new. Tested the new 4v, Hero Xtreme and 200x on a single day and discovered that 200x is much to my liking. The lightness of it blew my mind, I could take U turns without touching the ground, USD is perfect, less noise and vibrations bla bla bla.... I was like this is the definition of value for money 😅

Peer pressure is also a thing people need to come out of when choosing a bike. The number of people basically forcing me to get a Royal Enfield is insane. Most of them said I "Wasted money" by getting a non RE motorcycle. I just laughed at them and never turned back.

Brother so true, I am just about to buy my first bike. Everyone in the family and my friends were like ohh! have a Royal Enfield, I was like "That is not even my taste why tf should I buy it". Its the surrounding which makes RE a choice for everyone as its good looking bike and other bikes are sporty and eventually will kill you(this ideology is of my parents), on other hand RE are not fast so yepp Don't care will it fit on a person or not but you should buy that one. For me RE are good bikes to ride but not good enough to own for myself

2 months back I bought Kushaq 1.5 MT as an upgrade from 2015 Grand i10 Astra MT. I love the punchy powerful engine. Everything about the car. However mum doesn’t like the backseat and it’s recline. She complains it’s too stiff. She loved the i10 seat. The only reason I upgraded was I was bored of i10 and I wanted a punchy powerful car. I’d have gone for a Polo. But it is what it is. I love the Kushaq. Yes it has niggles like AC but I live in Bangalore and can manage somehow will tricks to keep car cool with wind visors etc. My learning: Small things matter a lot. But sometimes it is a trade off when it comes to family car. That’s okay. Use tips and tricks to make it work. If it doesn’t, well sell it and buy another that works for all. Nothing wrong. Much needed discussion. I bought Ecosport SE thinking puncture repair kit will suffice ocassional punctures. And most of my traveling is on the highway so help should be accessible... 3 months into the ownership my father was traveling from Nashik to Pune over an under construction patch rear right was torn by some construction debris. Got stranded by the road for 3 hours till the tyre guy could come from nearby city carry the wheel with him put on a new tyre and bring it back. Next day I bought a steel rim from old used ecosport and made myself a spare wheel which now sits in my boot. Very inconvenient & yes unsafe in case of a crash, but got to live with it. Thinking of replacing the tail gate with a used car's to get that tailgate mounted wheel back. Absolutely beautiful car mechanically but not having a spare wheel is now an idiotic thing to me, a deal breaker for sure.

I am from a day and age where many of us carried 2 spares in the boot. Even today, one of the non-negotiable's when buying a new car, or guiding others, is a proper spare tyre (not just a get home slim . . .).

i love the philosophy of this whole discussion. Thats how i chose my car . i just test drove and obscene amount of cars and then the car i loved...it had niggles , but i felt i can deal with it , the basics of how it made me feel during drives overshadowed all the little niggles it had. Now i have zero regrets. Every morning whenever i step out of my home and get in it, it never fails to put a smile on my face. Thats all that matters and makes it worth to me. Yes, its a depreciating asset, yes it costed a bit more than conventional choices, But boy it makes me grin ear to ear, especially on highways

Against all the hype of Royal Enfield Classic 350 ; i bought Highness and i am very proud of my decision. I always wanted Enfields , the aura of these bikes are completely different. But when i took test ride of both classic and highness on the same day , i was blown away by the day and night diffrence between the two bikes. It is more powerful than the classic , much more smoother, more efficient and can do 100 all day along without a buzz. Couple of time classic guys have approached me and have shown intrest in my bike and they complain about vibration post 80 kms. I didn't surrender to my emotions, i did not surrender to the hype of owning classic I made a rational decision which was based on comparing two machines on the value they offer. It's almost been a year , i have completed 10 k kms on the bike and everytime i pull the throttle, the exhaust makes a sweet note in behind, and it makes me smile.

I agree with the basic premise of this video that one must first really understand their requirements and decide what actually matters to them and what are merely add-ons and minor niggles. However, the whole video is so confusing and not really clarifies anything at all. Kartikeya is rejecting a car because it makes too many beeps, and then immediately proffesses the importance of suspension, engine and other hardware! An extremely rare miss from MotorInc. First video where they've made the decision making process more confusing than simpler! Way too many contradictions... But I still love you guys!! ✌️✌️

​@@arindamsonu007there are fundamental differences in both cases. A motorcycle is not designed to protect you from heat or cooling you down. However in a car AC is key equipment which should just work flawlessly. You shouldn't have to suffer in heat in your 20L car.

@@kartikkaul4065 kindda disagree with you here bro. AC taking a minute will be an annoyance for 1 minute per trip, that too only in peak summers. Heat from a big engine, inches away from your legs, for hours at a stretch, that is annoying for way longer! And it is likely to cause skin burns atleast a few times during the ownership. I agree with @arindamsonu007 that there is surely some bias, however, I know this is totally natural. Literally everyone has biases. They are suffering from it as much as any other human!

10:38 is something I totally agree to! I recently bought myself a 400X. I have once touched 110 Kmph on a small section of the highway and the buzz is something I can live with! Does it take away how fun of a bike it is to ride for me? Absolutely not. My purpose was primarily city commute and the occasional tour. It does that brilliantly for me! Shumi’s point in the 400x impressions is also very true, where vibration is a subjective thing to a good extent and this often is blown out of proportion!

This is a video of almost everything I wanted to say about bikes. So much of these minor issues are brought up all the time I just want to not read another post again. 2:15 I have something that I use at work. I distribute features under Must Have Should Have Could Have Will not have This is called MoSCoW analysis. This helps me decide and also explain to my superiors, why a particular feature made a release and something else did not. The same can be used when finalizing a car or a bike.

This is why I chose the Citroën C3 Turbo, despite mainstream channels criticizing it for being cheap and lacking certain features. The issues that others saw as dealbreakers didn't bother me. I drive my 2018 Tiago XT and recently I was getting anxious about whether to sell off my car for a new one or to keep it. At the end I decided to keep it because I was happy with the robustness and dynamics of the car, but it has a weakling known as the engineq. So I flashed my ECU recently and most the niggles are either reduced or mitigated. I did not feel the need to install a screen with Android auto etc, but what I truly look for, I invested in that area and I'm happy.

@@8aniketg I was in a same dilemma. Then I have planned to delay the purchase. I found ECU upgrade from superchips and decided to do so. It costs 19k. My car feels like a four cylinder car. The initial lag is gone, the rev climbing is more free and rapid. Yeah in city it is returning 1kmpl less than previous but for the feel alone, I have no regrets.

So after listening to Shumi talk so much about the KTM, I finally reached there and tried the adv 390 (cause I wanted an adv). Just to give a context I had an old Bullet 350 with reverse gears and then due to shifting abroad had to sell it and was coming back to riding after 5 years. I rode the 390 ADV and was loving it. In the same time, I test rode the Himlayana 450 and the Triumph Scambler 400. Just to test my skills I test rode the new Duke 390. It was the first time I came off a bike and said this is not for me cause I did not have the skills to ride it. So I decided to go with the Himalayan and I am happy about it. But somewhere down the road, I aim to get skilled enough and try everything on this Himalayan so that when the 390 ADV with the new engine comes I will be skilled enough to ride and enjoy it. You guys have given me a better perspective on riding and choosing my machine as now I know I want to ride a bit fast, I don't worry about constant gear changes and I want my ride to be engaging and this is all cause of you and your podcast.

The air conditioning in current Skoda and VW models seems to be quite effective. I recently bought a VW six months ago, and although the temperature gauge might not be perfectly accurate, setting it to 18°C keeps the cabin comfortable even in Chennai's heat.

"Luxury" has been a misrepresented term for quite some time in the car world now. Automakers have directly linked luxury to the amount and size of equipment the vehicle has, which is fundamentally wrong! To me, Luxury is in suspension setup, steering feedback, body panels, engine power delivery, gearbox smoothness, seat cushioning, chassis response and how the car is built up. Luxury is NOT in the number and inches of screen, leather stitching on the steering or the upholstery of the seats! Reliability is the best form of luxury one can have from a vehicle.

Everything in this video is spot on. Vehicles are machines and machines by design do some things good and some things not so good. That's why we have so many different vehicles in the market which do several things but out of these there are a few things which they do better and this is precisely why they are designed for in the first place. For example, a suv can do lots of things but you won't expect it to corner hard like a hatchback does or you can't expect Royal Enfield classic to perform as good as a Duke 390. Often times setting wrong expectations from a car or Motorcycle can also turn a niggle into a deal breaker.

Deal breakers to some are not even niggles to others :D I recently got an insane deal on a less than 1 year old Xpulse Pro. Previous owner found it unweildy. Absolutely loving this machine, sips fuel, don't feel the need to brake regardless of the size of the pothole or hump, and because the handlebar is so high, I can filter through traffic without being obstructed by traffic unlike the regular xpulse getting obstructed by car rear view mirrors. I need to tiptoe to get both feet down but I'm ok getting one foot down and have practiced my low speed drills enough to the point where none of this is an issue anymore. Lack of power is the only niggle I am finding difficult to live with, have considered the big bore kit but that might affect the economy which I absolutely love, so I'll leave it alone. I guess I'll just wait for the 210 liquid cooled version and upgrade when it comes.

Thank you for another enlightening podcast. Your podcasts always help me in learning something new or get a better perspective. The experience Shumi shared about the guy stuck between Himalayan and RE resonated with me as well so I thought I might share my experience as well. So I already have a MT15 and a Suzuki Burgman street, and I am in the market looking for a bike for weekend fun and touring, preferably in the 250-300cc upto 30bhp category and I had shortlisted three bikes, dominar 250, Classic 350 and Vstrom 250. I liked the classic 350 more than the dominar but man oh man I instantly fell in love with Vstrom sx 250. That bike and engine just got along so well with me, but I live in West Bengal, and already have experience with Suzuki. The Burgman as a scooter is just fantastic, it runs like a dream but God forbid if you get something broken like a plastic panel or even a Horn switch the service center takes quite a bit time to bring those parts, in fact I had to register a complaint online once to get a part. Now Vstrom sales aren't very high so not sure if Suzuki is going to discontinue it or not, so considering the after sales service and spare parts availability I have decided to go along with classic after giving it a thought for a month. Now every time I see the vstrom I get sad. Don't know if I am making the right choice, but it is a damn good bike.

Suzuki makes excellent vehicles as they don't make much fuss anyway, but spares availability is piss poor, ordinary things like air filters, spark plugs, etc are available, but if it's unusual one then you have to wait for it to come, the service center people give alibi like it's in backorder etc. I once had to complain in Suzuki website for a plastic panel that broke, before that I heard for 3 weeks that the panels are back order etc, they don't know when it will be available etc. I registered a complaint and boom the part was there in a week. I got various calls from Suzuki after that. Also once I got the 20A fuse blown while replacing the battery in a nearby battery shop, the service center didn't have a single piece of spare fuse I had to get it from outside. So yes it's a bit bad.

Great episode!! (as always) In my experience, while buying a car one way to get a handle on whether something is a niggle or a dealbreaker is to do multiple test drives of your No.1 and No.2 choice vehicles. The no.2 choice could be the biggest competitive model of the same category of car. If you find yourself gravitating towards different categories altogether, then you aren’t clear about what you want anyway and can take time on this .. delay your decision and start the process again when you can narrow your choices to 2 or 3.

Although i love that bike, its proportions, the tank shape, that stance to death, i never felt comfortable riding it. Its heavy, cumbersome and it runs really hot. i realised its killing my motorcycling joy, so i got an xpulse and boy i was so happy. I could jump on it and go anywhere without worrying and caring for the bike getting muddy and dirty. But then one drawback was i always wanted a bit more. Like more power, more stability, more speed,and a bit more comfort. finally one of Shumi’s video made me test ride the Vstrom and man this was it. The looks( all black with no graphics), the feel, the reliability, everything was perfect ! And man i m back on the roads and Vstrom is the ride of my choice❤ and The GT is at home as a display motorcycle to satisfy my eyes 😂 and maybe my ego 😂😂😂

I couldn't agree more. We choose our likes and discomforts. Everything has pros and cons. Shumi's advice is really practical... Go take test ride. If it suits you then don't listen to others. Shumi's advice helped me in buying my first bike RE Shotgun. Sure as he said about its suspension, weight nd heating but all of that is subjective. I took test ride i loved it. So if you are ever in doubt... Just go take a test ride. Its free mostly. Understand your taste. Know what you want. And remember, the idea is not a perfect bike but what brings the most to you. Love the content. I could relate this to my FZ16. (version 1). Replaced it after 10 years with RE meteor 350 (just for the sake that I was bored with 150 cc and wanted more power). Quickly after a year, I realized that even with 350 cc and all the torque, I missed the whole different dimension that my Yamaha gave me. I mean, both are good machines, Meteor definitely as reliable as my Yamaha was, if not the better, but different feels. The inside city drives (Chennai), the parking hassles, all that meteor has now, never was my problem before, not that I didn't knew it. My daily office rides (50kms per day), 90% of bike usage time, has improved a whole lot with Meteor. Whereas, 10% time for the grocery stores, for few slow traffic rides, it hurts. so what do I do, I take my wife's zest, simple. Nothing is perfect. The most important is to know, what the machine can do for you and be rational in expectations.

@motorinc A small note for Skoda/VW owners, if you go for a PDI at the stockyard, the machine's software is locked because the car needs to be driven/transported to the showroom. As a result, they limit the speed to 35kmph using the software and that warrants for the check engine light to be on by default. Its completely okay if this is the case. (Ask the supervisor to show you other cars of the same spec if you are not sure) There is no information about this whatsoever, please put it out there :). I came close to rejecting a lovely car during my PDI because of this.

Thank you for very interesting conversation as always! A few years back we had the opportunity to pick up a company car. Under familial pressure we would up at the bmw showroom. We had zeroed in on the 320d regular wheelbase and everyone loved the car. So far so good. Just before the paperwork was completed, I noticed that the vehicle came with just a 40 liter tank. Further Google research revealed that this was done for insurance reasons in Europe wherein cars are tested for mileage with a full tank. The savings in weight from a 40 l tank vs a 50l tank allowed the car to benefit from lower insurance slabs. This was a deal breaker for me! I could not bend my mind around the fact that this vehicle - an aspirational purchase - would have less fuel capacity than our i20! Needless to say, I was roundly panned in the family and my approval ratings took a severe beating. I still remain convinced that I should not have to compromise on what to me is a key consideration - range on the highways - especially when the dinky 2 series just next to the 3 had a tank of 50 liters!

I would call this the "Analogy" episode. First 15 mins, I was hoping for few mins on many many features and if they are a niggle or deal breakers. Made me realise that this podcast won't go into features, but rather draw analogies, from marriage to similar life events. Agree with the approach as eventually, it will boil down to individual situation, and everyone needs to be look at the situation objectively. That being said, with the right caveat, it would be good to have a "rapid fire" on niggle or deal-breaker, from both of you, knowing this is your view. OG Himalayan owns me since 2022. For me, tubed tires werent a deal breaker. Every day I go for my 35 km ride to work, back of my mind, I know I can be dragging the bike for few kms. That known compromise didn't stop me from doing so much with the motor cycle.

What features are important or deal breaker really depends on what problems they solve more than what luxury it adds to your life. Ventilated seats may not be a deal breaker for most people but for someone with hyperhidrosis i rather reach somewhere dry and cool than 2 secs faster, and yes there is an argument to be made if i can buy fans from Amazon in 3k but the fasts are not cooled/heated, makes noise and looks absolutely atrocious and I'm sitting on plastic and wires...in built ventilation is so much better and carries so much finesse. (Btw the engine is enjoyable ,adequately powered and gives good mileage)

Very good episode. Choosing a bike over the other is best experienced once you rent the vehicle/vehicles you want to own for a good 48-72 hours. This will simplify most of your buying decisions because you will know what issues are deal breakers or what is not that a big deal. Example - The heating on the scrambler 400X is an issue for me and the speed 400 isnt. They got a very important detail right on the Speed. The foot pegs are set back enough to keep you away from the heat the engine throws out which hits you directly on the Scram. Once I knew I cant tolerate that, i knew what my tolerence is. For me vibrations on both the machines are not an issue (talking from doing 400kms / week) Weight is a massive issue and the compact nature of the speed just works so well. In short once you know yourself better, you can make quality judgements on buying decisions. Just rent stuff you want to buy.

Absolutely loved the episode. Gives you a framework to buying. But since I'm in the market for a new car, I was hoping for a bit for of a car-focused conversation. I'm finding it hard to pick between the Honda City and the VW Virtus at the moment. They both have their strengths and weaknesses: Fundamentally I think they're both really great cars. - VW's long term parts cost is something I'm vary of. But at the same time, it feels more exciting. The TC gearbox is better, but also more thirsty. - Honda's cabin feels more upmarket but also a bit noisy. And the CVT gearbox puts a dampener on that beautiful, high revving engine. Would love a bit more advice

Amazing discussion as always❤. I feel the bike market is also getting complicated day by day. At first i had made up my mind for a versys 650. But then becoz of the front 17 inch tyre it was a deal breaker for me as i often have to ride on bad roads along with beautiful highways. A 19 inch tyre would have been good. But then i was really excited about the vstrom 800 de and the transalp 750. Everything was good about those bikes but both of them run on tube tyres and thats my biggest concern. There's no tubeless option for vstrom and the tubeless spoke on transalp will cost around 1.5L. Its really heartbreaking and even a deal breaker for me. Living with my yezdi adventure and everyday I'm hearing all soughts of problems people are facing with their jawa and yezdi. It really scares me when i think what if i face one of these problems when I'm going through some unknown roads and the bike suddenly stops and doesn't start( as many people are facing this problems as I'm seeing in the yezdi jawa whatsapp group). It's really scary. I am unable to decide which adv bike to go for.

Our advice - pick the bike you enjoy riding more and go with it. We lived with tube type tyre for a long time. Tyres and roads have gotten better since.

Really felt the Niggle vs Dealbreaker point, If you watch any number of reviews for the V strom SX 250 the points a lotta people talk about are the basic instrument cluster or lack of slipper clutch, but honestly how often do you look at your instrument cluster ? Is the gear shift slick or the clutch light ? no but the clutch is light enough and the gear shifts nicely without fail.

Bought a City 3 years ago, chose to ignore ventilated seats , wireless carplay and other features that were standard in Sonet and Seltos. No regrets at all, as my priority was getting a Japanese sedan. There are several of these ‘can’t be mentioned in a brochure’ stuff, the fundamentals, that the Japanese get bang-on, which make a big difference in long-term ownership.

When I started shopping for my first car purchase, I essentially made a list of my priorities. Budget at the top, then seat comfort for my height, back seat comfort, and finally an amazing powertrain. Researching online, everyone's suggestion was to get the segment leader while nitpicking so much on the competitors. All of those suggestions were based on subjective observations that I knew I had to verify for myself. Turns out segment leader was not comfortable in the back and neither was the powertrain exciting. When I came to the Kushaq, every single one of my points were satisfied and I didn't notice any of the niggles people were crying over.

On ADAS - One man's trash is another man's treasure. About 50-60% of my last 100,000Km has been very early mornings (3.30am starts) on well laid, mostly empty 4-6 lane highways. Emergency Braking, ACC and lane keep assist help me work a lot lesser for the same average speeds. I reach my destination fresher than before. I think this is the whole point of analysing what works for ones needs.

Agree with most of what has been said. Though I have a few points to make. Handlebar in a bike is critical in my opinion. If u have to lower it then in most circumstances it should not be a problem. But if u have to raise it then u need to be absolutely sure that u can do it without fouling the clutch and the other cables. A badly done handlebar is extremely dangerous. Likewise a hard seat is not a big deal but a soft seat is a headache and u need to make sure that u hv access to the right kind of skilful people to solve it for u. In major cities these should not be a deal breaker but in tier III cities and small towns it can be a deal breaker. Regarding the quality of screen in cars, my personal opinion is that it that a good and responsive screen is a must. It allows you to keep ur focus on the road. As a guy who travels a lot and use google maps extensively a good and responsive screen is a must. That way u can focus more on the road and keep ur interaction with the screen at a minimum. With my Altroz i have to stop the car whenever I want to do anything with the google maps which is a constant irritant. The only saving grace is that it projects turn by turn navigation on the instrument cluster which is quite helpful.

I purchased a Yamaha Aerox 29 months back and have done 30000 kms..this bike is fitted with Japanese Brand IRC tyres…which are excellent and still good to go for another 5000 kms easily… The current Aerox is coming fitted with CEAT tyres which are not lasting even 20000 kms

The availability of spares in the market is very important. As in my experience of owning the new Honda CB 300F, I recently found out that there are no aftermarket air filters yet made for this bike. Not even in K&N and BMC. The genuine Honda replacement paper air filter is not available for buying as a spare part. We have to give the bike for service and only then it'll be replaced. The frustration of not being able to take care of yourself, paid for the bike is a lot.

The seat cushioning is what I complained all the time and positioning of that in the car as well. My old santro used to have terrible seat cushion, i used to feel that over longer journeys.. ever since we bought the City, it's best in my opinion. It's firm not soft not hard the seat doesn't sink in once sat in it, could it have better under thigh support yes, but since I'm above average taller than most Indians I'm ok with it and can live with it. Same goes to headlights as well, as poorly lit it is, it becomes harder during rains and highways, even in some poorly lit city roads. And I prefer yellow lights over white LEDs. If LED manufacturers can provide yellows I'll buy them, but all want white, cool white, warm white. It's sh***t for me.

Glad that you mentioned how IMT is much better than the dct. The single most reason why Hyundai had to completely abandon IMT cars was its low sales due to some herd mentality reviewers criticising IMT as slow and not good enough. Yes, manual transmission is a better pick, but at what cost ? The city traffic is absolutely on it's peak throughout the day, people spending 10 lakhs on a car then going for therapy to fix knee joints after driving in city traffic, instead the IMT was introduced to reduce the cost of an automated transmission so that even a person on low budget can afford the convenience and luxury of an automatic. Neither you are nor am i a NASCAR professional driver that we need a downshift or upshift on the blink of an eye. Try to keep up with the technology and research that the car makers are investing for their customers to make their driving experience wonderful. The IMT transmission has been designed according to the ideal driving habits that one should have even while driving a manual transmission.

This Royal Enfield thing has happened to me so many times. People come to and tell me how do you maintain a c350 they are so unreliable and breaks down constantly. My bike for 25k never broke down, no oil leaks from the engine even though its a 2015 model. Also during covid its was parked for 2 years as i was in my home down, it started in the first 30 mins….. Who ever tells me what, i love it, it gives the feelings that even my inline4 does not. And its going to stay with me forever.
