Having listened to the Pipes on bikes joke a lot, my brother recently sent me multiple clips of how much small Advs like Adv 250, 390, Dominar adventure/ touring variant have picked up, some even have the Burgman and Ntorq too with the insane pipe protection. The only thing missing on all these motorcycles is the rider wearing a helmet. The rider decided to solely let the bike be protected while he himself was riding it aggressively without a lid on. Strange priorities?

Just to add somethings about automotive paints, as I have extensively worked in that area : 1) Smaller cars aren't rushed through the process, because if the paint remains same across models curing time remains same. 2) Usually the smaller budget cars have less coverage of paint, as in they skip painting all coats in interior areas like engine room, under the bonet etc that's how cost is balanced 3) In rare case the paint will be different across models because keeping separate paint would increase operation cost 4) And as you have inferred OEM's spend lot of thought process on coating design, whatever we get should be easily durable for a long period

Really insightful discussion and makes one really mindful when choosing accessories. One thing about Crash guards though, as a novice biker I bought a RE Meteor and was scared the size of it would crush my leg if it falls while I'm on it, and the bike fell twice in the 2 years I've had it, the engine guard touches the ground first saving the leg and also aides picking it back up.

1.Wowh!! Shumi's thoughts on FRAME SLIDERS and Crash guard is an eye opening. I was like that's weird thing to say but as he explained.. I was speechless 🤯 I'm planning a RR310 (apache is my dream since it's first version) but I'm sure this frame slider/crash guard point from Shumi will be in my mind. 2. Regarding car floor mats. My Celerio has rubber/silicon mix mats which really is annoying coz they get rolled under cold temp and it gets rolled under accelerator pedal. Prevent from tapping it after 50% 😂. My Seltos has 7D Mats which really keep the dirt at fixed place and is easier to clean. So that's really nice Kartikeya held back his feelings a lot for USELESS accessories 🤣 And those rubber/RUST COATING thing is pushed to customer in every service visit too. 3. I want to know if DASHCAMs by OEM should be a must accessory that should be provided? I have a pair of dashcams in 2 cars and it really have saved me a couple of times. But i do wish they were like integrated with the system rather than hanging.

Was saved by traffic police when they were wrongfully pushing me a challan for crossing lights when i clearly had a GREEN and my dashcam showed they had faulty traffic lights which switched from 25 SECOND to 0 in just few second. In my recent experiences people who actually follow RULES are ending up paying wrongful challan or getting HIT by rash driving

The large rear view mirrors mentioned at 31:06 are helpful for a larger view of the car. You can even see out of rear passangers window from them. For SUVs, I think they improve the car's rear vision. For sedans or low slung hatchbacks, they are a pain because they block your sight of view.

19:00 When I bought my interceptor I fitted the smallest engine guard and a sump guard that RE offered, because big ones look ugly and leg guards don't really work. Interceptor was my first real bike (can't really count Navi as one) and I have dropped it quite a lot of times mostly at very low speeds, and while offroading (the road to my house is a mud road with deep tyre tracks). The small crash guard that hugs the engine has held up really well and so has the sump guard. The sump guard is made of Aluminium so it dents easily but I have a hammer with plastic ends and those dents are really easy to fix. After a lof of drops, my engine and clutch covers are still shiny, I also polish them with Brasso when they start to look dull. And at speeds higher than 40, I don't think any plumbing will save my legs or the bike because it's so heavy.

Thanks for sharing this! You should know that your legs are more or less as safe with or without the crash guards (technically engine/radiator guards). Trapping a leg under a bike is not easy to do.

@@motorinc never trapped my leg under the bike but once I managed to get it stuck between the front tyre and the exhaust pipe. I fell down on the right side, in almost a 2 foot deep muddy ditch but it was my left leg that got stuck between the exhaust pipe and the front tyre. The pipe burned straight through my jeans and caused 2nd degree burns on my left calf all in just a few seconds. That happened last year, still got the mark. I wonder if a leg guard could have prevented that or would have made it worse. Dunno! But I'm a better rider now and now I know that it's better to let the bike fall and then lift it instead of trying to hold on to the bike in order to save it from falling. It's easier to spend some cash in bike repairs than spending weeks in pain in addition to hospital and med. bills.

Thanks for getting to this topic! Loved it. Would definitely want a continuation that involved more long-term accessories including some things alluded to in this video for "buy them later" like luggage and lights. A couple of things I would like to add to the discussion about protection and injury. Almost all protective equipment is designed to transfer impact forces above their absorption capability to other areas of the body. Knee braces, for example, transfer them to bones and muscles instead of ligaments. The idea behind it simply being that some parts of the body can take more impact and heal easier than others (Ligaments, for example, are very easy to damage and extremely hard to heal completely). Ankle Torsion/flexion/extension protection in boots does a very similar thing. Just putting this out there, in case it helps people, or someone finds this interesting P.S. - My personal take on the paint protection thing is that I like the stuff that I own to have marks that tell the story of what its been through, instead of looking like its been lovingly adored from afar in pristine condition. So, I personally agree with Kartikeya in that I will take care of stuff but "Naaah" on too much. 😋

I just wanted to put this here in case it helps someone, because I've seen people feel that wearing protectors makes them invincible, where it can cause other situations, like Shumi mentioned in the video with the neck whiplash Knee braces, to take my example, can cause bone damage in the legs, because they were trying to protect your ligaments. The medical opinion being that bone is easier to heal completely than ligaments Love the example with car crash structures too!

I really enjoyed this video. It was superb. I really liked the section where you talked about the paint quality and anti rust dealer treatment. The consumers really need to be educated that none of the vehicles need any paint treatment. From the OEM perspective everything, generaly that a car needs is there in that variant. We should never drill holes and add after market products even if bought from the dealerships.

The window visors/vances(?) are very helpful while driving through rains. They help prevent the fogging up of the vehicle without letting the rain in, which is very helpful when the weather is on the colder side. Also, blindspot mirrors are a great addition as well. They help while navigating tight spaces or parking too. Neck support cushions are a great addition for long drives too, since not every car seat is ergonomical enough..

One accessory if I may call it that I added in my car is a dashboard camera… And it has helped me in two aspects 1) When I got into an incident where another car tried to overtake through left and tried to go on to the right side eventually ending up scratching my front bumper and ripping his rear bumper, before he could start a fight about whose fault and all that, I just old him that I have it all on video and the argument ended there…. Where he was ok to pay for the processing fee of my insurance to get it all sorted. 2) it kinda reminds you that in case of an incident the footage can act against you if you are at fault….so better mannered self behind wheels on road 🙂

Thanks to work, I am 2 days late and watching this on the weekend. As far as accessories go, the TPMS system from Triumph works wonders on my Triple. Apart from that just the basic front and back fork protector along with rear bobbins and I am flying. And a radiator guard.. ofcourse. On my Altroz, I still have the stock floor mats which have come over the clutch pedal so many times that I can't even remember. Have to push it back with my brake feet every time I feel it obstructing the clutch. Have got the replacement ready. Just need to fix it. Apart from that, the infamous under belly rust protection which I thought would protect the underbody from debris damage. Following the K.I.S.S principle. Keep It Simple Silly!! Next podcast suggestion. What does the rule book says about parts swapping, especially engines and transmission. We see a lot of vehicles, both cars and bikes being restored to much better specs and running on the roads abroad. How much degree of freedom do we have it here in India if, let's say, I want to swap my Altroz's engine and transmission with that of a Nexon's or my Street Triple R to that of the Speed Triple?? #WithACupOfTea

I did get the ‘machined’ engine oil cap and brake-fluid lid from RE coz they were pretty inexpensive and looked cool 😄 On the topic of crash/leg guards - I think they are good to have coz 1) They help deflect smaller vehicles on impact - I had a enthusiastic aunty on a scooty T-bone me but the massive ‘Avon’ leg guards on my father’s 1st gen Thunderbird deflected her to the side. Was funny coz there was an uncle who was instructing her as pillion and they crashed into a cow 😅 (all parties were unharmed) 2) They help the bike stay slightly propped up when it goes down so it’s easier to lift - maybe more relevant for off-roaders Great content, as always. Enjoyed it thoroughly :)

Serious off-roaders carry spare levers anyway. And most levers today have a ball and a notch. So it’ll only break off the end most of the time, not the entire lever. For a hand guard to do a great job, you need more than bendy plastics. The best use an aluminium bar that gives it structure and therefore protection

Motorcycle EDC/Tour carry: Carbonado 5L pack to have raincoats, puncture repair, tyre inflator, tools. Do not forget the Zip-ties! Can do! Thanks! Short answer: Top cases are fine at lower speeds and in traffic. Personally, Shumi hates them. At higher speeds they interfere with stability and make the handling noticeably worse

Can do! But you don't need to give the bike any rest at all. You will need the rest, almost any modern bike can run all day and all night without issues

Waah. Glad to know that I went bare minimal with accessories. Mud flaps, reverse parking camera, seat covers from the dealer cause I had fabric seats and sun blinds for rear seat passengers for Tbone (Skoda Rapid). Radiator guard, tank protector, 12V USB socket and framesliders for Cyclotron (Ninja 1000SX). Absolutely no accessories for DarkKat (Pulsar 220F)

21:46 I don't know which study was conducted and by whom, but leg guard seems genuinely helpful. They ensure that you are not stuck under the motorcycle. And we have a lot of idiot auto rikshaw driver who just pull in on the road without checking mirrors, so atleast leg guard will be the first to take that hit. Hate the big ones but definitely need the compact ones.

Schumi, use the JK's Treel TPMS, its internal and cost is less than Sensory and they work absolutely fine. Have been using it on my 3 two wheelers and 1 car, and I will just recommend them eyes closed.

Tyre polish on motorcycles.....I bought a demo Triumph Street Twin in 2017. Five minutes out from the showroom, on a sharp turn, at about 10 kmph, the front slid out! My first ever fall (I'm 60+ years old) and I was absolutely confounded! Ended up with a bent rear brake pedal. I figured out that the showroom had applied tyre polish liberally and had I taken a turn another couple of kms later, things might have been different. The Triumph dealer agreed with my observation and since then, stopped using tyre polish.......

As stated by others as well this is a gem of a podcast series, love the aspect of practicality and to the point arguments that you guys bring in as well. The "plumbing" line was hilarious! I had a query - what are your thoughts on radiator guard for bikes (for urban riding primarily), should I not worry about it or its a good to have. I see a lot of people have it installed on their bikes but I am not sure how important it is.

It's good to have. Indian roads throw up stuff all the time and we'd rather have on than deal with a damaged or holed radiator

I lost Shumi when he said leg guards are worthless. It has saved my legs on my little commuter bike, from minor crasher with autos, cars, poles and what not, that really feels like a must with every bike, at least at city speeds.

Polish / Waxing is necessary as it slows down oxidation of the paint. More importantly, it makes it hydrophobic, so less stains of water and even dust do not stick as well which makes cleaning far more easier.

Yes Yes Yes ! Cant agree more ! There are so many brilliant designers who work for months and years and come up with designs that are beautiful and functional. And then there are people who put a leg guard thats almost half the size of the engine, heavy and rusty and more intimidating than a butcher knife and make the machine look its absolute worst. I know a guy who puts a everything the aftermarket has to offer on his vehicles. Once he showed me one of his creations😂 I literally asked him which car is this ? He was surprised and told me that how in a conversation i used to praise this car and i dont recognise it now. I told him, the car i was a fan of, was designed by vw in germany, the one you have is designed by you 😂 And the PPF thing out here is a sure scam ! Amazing content that helps each time !
